HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Multiple posts - I do like them! I have three harem pants but these are my faves. Should be for the price of course.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 12/10/2013 10:42

Planning on buying some dye today and having a sort out of wardrobe. Hoping I can dye some of my white and pale grey tops at least. Does anyone dye in the washing machine and if so how do you get your machine clean again?

Rules · 12/10/2013 11:17

I run a hot wash again with nothing in but do check the rubber door seal for dye still lurking within its clutches first.

Rules · 12/10/2013 11:24

Mrs don't forget the colour rules when dying things otherwise you could end up with a colour you were not expecting.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 12/10/2013 11:44

Thanks. Do you find you get a more even dye when using the machine? (Worried about all my washing getting dyed afterwards too!)

CuriosityCola · 12/10/2013 12:07

I have never heard of Hush. Love the dresses and the harem pants. Do you just order and hope for the best colour wise?

onlysettleforbutterflies · 12/10/2013 12:16

I'm wearing olive green skinnies, brown riding type boots, rust long sleeve sloucy top and a camel cape. Accessorised with my ds in various shades of brown Grin.

RockMummy · 12/10/2013 12:53

The ochre scarf arrived this morning. It's gorgeous, perfect for autumn colouring.

charitygirl · 12/10/2013 13:15

Mine too RockMummy! I shall be giving meaningful glances to anyone I see wearing it!

mrselgar · 12/10/2013 13:32

Thanks Rules. If I were to dye a very pale blue cardigan moss/olive green, would a straightforward olive green dye suffice, or would I end up with a very strange colour?

Rules · 12/10/2013 13:38

We'll I tested a patch on a soft baby pale blue jumper with a dark warm brown dye and the patch came up a light mink colour so I didn't go ahead. I used a paint set to mix colours first to see approximate results before. The rough rules are blue and green make yellow....Sad .....don't they.?? Confused

MotherOfSoupDragon · 12/10/2013 14:58

Passed a charity shop on my way to the car after work this morning and popped in on a whim. Found a lovely Per Una olive green top for £3.99 Smile

evelynj · 12/10/2013 20:01

Blue and green don't make yellow-yellow & blue make green. You can't make red, blue or yellow as they are the primary colours which are used to make all the others.

My blooming scarf hasn't arrived yet & I ordered it first, grrr!

Anyway, dylon do a pre dye to neutralise colours & extract existing colours. I should really use it for my wool & silk bits that I want to hand dye next, everything seems like such a faff but probably worth it for better results.

Love charity shop bargains-considering a day trip to anther town just to check out the charity shops!

Would like any jewellry/accessories recs too. I actually have been buying gold stuff as most of my jewellry is silver, platinum, Grrrrr.

There is a best fall fashion buy link at the too of the site so off to check that & sainsburys....

Rules · 12/10/2013 20:59

Whoops....sorry......wasn't sure. It makes a sort of cyan shade doesn't it? Sort of a richer light blue?

evelynj · 12/10/2013 21:09

Hmmm, not sure it would go to cyan, would depend on the original colours-cyan seems a bit turquoisey which would need a bit of White or a lighter green/blue to start with. Worth a shot though. I dyed a mustardy lime type top dark olive & it's come out a great colour-still a bit more vibrant but dark olivey vibrant!

Rules · 12/10/2013 21:11

Her garment is a very light pale blue.

mrselgar · 12/10/2013 21:20

What's "cyan", I've never heard of it?
My cardi is very pale blue with absolutely no yellow in it.

dododoing · 12/10/2013 21:28

Hello, thought I would delurk - I had my colours done a couple of years ago by Colour me beautiful, and I'm definitely autumn, but can't remember now whether I was warm or deep. Not sure how that translates to the HoC spectrum - I've definitely got black in my swatches though?

Anyway - the reason for delurking - I found a Merrell coat in TK Maxx today and I'm not sure whether the colour is quite right. This is it:

www.outdoormania.co.uk/Item-0-0-cat-30-brand-2732-Merrell_Esker_Coat.aspx

Does that look like an autumn colour to people?

Rules · 12/10/2013 21:31

mrs I googled pale light blue and olive green and it came up with cyan which is a brighter richer blue.

MotherOfSoupDragon · 12/10/2013 22:00

Yeah, love charity shops too. Especially now I know what colours I'm looking for! Think I need to go to a wealthier town tho!! Better quality of second hand clothes!

mummybare · 13/10/2013 09:48

I have also ordered The Scarf. Rude not to at that price.

mummybare · 13/10/2013 09:54

I was reading an article about charity shops the other day. I think it said Cobham or Walton upon Thames were the best places to find good quality stuff.

Also apparently Joan Collins opened one in Weybridge the other day and donated loads of clothes. I suspect they were snapped up pretty quickly though!

MelanieCheeks · 13/10/2013 16:37

dododoing, I'm not sure about that coat - it's a bit bland looking. But the best thing is to try it on and see how it makes your skin look. Maybe you cant do this if you're just looking online, though.

charitygirl · 13/10/2013 19:56

Eek! V excited that I found, quite by chance while snatching 10 mins in TopShop while DS1 was at a soft play party, a size 12 pair of these tartan leggings which are sold out online. Thanks to Hopefully for alerting me to them in the first place.

They actually look really awesome on tho sadly I have few opps to wear awesome casual outfits. I really need a Bonfire Night party to wear them with oversized brick cardy and THIS new scarf (which I really recommend as is v huge and luxurious feeling). Actually will post link below or iPad will eat this.
