HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

I love that coat and keep trying it on, I bought a similar one from there last winter and it's the warmest coat I have ever owned, but its black. I can't really justify a new one just because the colour is wrong, hoping it goes in the jan sales.

Sweet I would stay away from the burgundy skirt if you possibly can - there's bound to be a brown one sooner or later!

Curiosity that is a great colour coat. I am limping through on one navy maternity one (bought before I had my colours done) and my winter overcoat left open. Refuse to buy any more coats to accommodate the bump!

Am wearing my new H&M knitted dress today, and brown opaques. Need to find some maternity opaques, these are getting a little tight now.

Hi there
I wonder if anyone could recommend an eyeliner for autumns? I just want to line my upper lid and have foubd black way too harsh. Also looking for something that stays put and doesn't end up all over my eye area! Thanks

I managed to get a monsoon brown leather skirt for £20 second hand (looks like this one), which I shortened last night - shortening the leather bit was much easier than doing the lining. I'm wearing it with a dark teal cashmere top today. Does anyone have tips on what footwear to wear with a leather skirt? I'm feeling a bit cow-heavy today as - due to the weather - I'm wearing elderly suede knee-length boots.

Pottedplant: it might be worth trying kettlewell for viscose cardigans etc. I've found the quality of their basic tops to be good.

Kettlewell also have some (very expensive) plain leggings in stock, in chocolate, dark teal etc. I'm still lusting after the Celtic merino leggings, but they're out of stock in my colours and sizes

I'd love some recommendations of day to evening, smartish dresses, if anyone has found anything good.

Finally, for now, this papaya ruched top is a fantastic vibrant orange. The coral one is also nice.

MUST. STOP. SHOPPING!

sweet I'm struggling with mixing my colours, so no good advice unfortunately.

hopefully agreed its not worth buying another jacket for pregnancy. Unless you can get a decent second hand one.

Great tops wigs.

Agree that burgundy is very much a false friend to autumn - seems right, looks wrong!

That coat is lovely. Look away!

Thank you PottedPlant, that sounds nice. Can I just ask how do you apply it, I mean do you have to apply something on eyelids first to stop it sliding off?

Just ordered this flannel checked shirt, it looks mostly Autumn and will dress down my tube skirts beautifully, also got some petrol tights. There's a 25% off most expensive item 0560 if anyone is tempted.

Looking at my newly dyed items more closely I am mostly not convinced, some streaking is evident on each garment, even on white cotton and despite being conservative with weight, the shade achieved has little depth, no idea what went wrong both times as everyone else up thread seems happy with their results. Confused

Snowlike what colours are you dyeing from/to? I find I get better results when dyeing from eg white to cream, or mushroom brown to chestnut brown, rather than a drastic change. Are you weighing clothes? I was astonished at how much everything weighed compared to the Dylon recommended due quantities/weights.

Have just had an autumn client who ** in EXACTLY the same colours as I do, was weird! Obviously she looked fab though Grin

Hi hopefully - congrats on your pregnancy by the way - very exciting news! I have dyed grey to dark brown, white to olive green, could live with the colour intensity thing but the streaking is just too scruffy looking - even for me! I'm glad I held off dying my whistles jersey jacket - I'll flog it on eBay!

I like that shirt snow - would you wear it tucked into tube skirts or over? Am imagining latter, think it would look great.

Interesting hopefully - did she have same colouring to you I.e. hair/eye colour?

Thanks Snow! It sounds like the colour change was too drastic - I've found it doesn't take evenly enough to do major changes, although I think others haven't had a problem. Maybe worth a second dye job if it's nice clothes.

Charity she was similar (same fair skin but more English rose complexion than me, very similar dark hair), but amazing big brown eyes, and mine are hazel/greeny brown. Not enough alike that you'd automatically assume we were the same!

Hello! I had my colour analysis today and am officially an autumn (I had a feeling and had been lurking here ;) )

I'm going to have a good read of the thread as am having a total wardrobe clear out anyway and need to get almost everything!

Charity I'll at most do a semi tuck, but I'll wait and see what the finish is like. And I ordered the gold leaf necklace you linked to ages ago from etsy - had some very nice comments when I wore it!

Hopefully, I didn't dye the pricey items - too scared, so I experimented with some cheap things first.

I've just ordered the dolman sloppy joe in liquorice, I'm hoping it's a really dark brown but if not I've gone for free delivery and returns.....nothing ventured....

And I finally found a lizard grey top in a local boutique...just to lighten things no a bit, when I'm layering and it suits me better than beige and cream.

I need a dark brown bag, something worn and slouchy looking....maybe bookish but not dressy, formal or classic - any ideas?

I've bought some stuff! I went to sainsburys this morning (with 3yo and 9 week old...) and managed to grab a couple of items that seem to match my swatches.
A knee length rust cord skirt that I'm thinking will go well with the flat brown long boots I've ordered. I'm not sure what colour I'd wear on top though?
I also bought a jumper I'm pretty sure is heliotrope that I reckon would go nicely with brown, but I can't imagine it going with the rust skirt, but perhaps it's just too brave a combination for me?
They had trousers in quite a few autumn colours but none I liked the look of were there in my size due to the influx of people for the sale... I got a bargain little brown bag though. It was labelled £10 so I expected it to scan at £7.50 but instead was £3.75!

Hopasholic · 30/10/2013 17:26

I think heliotrope will go really well with it. Mustard would look good too, or brick red.

I bought this but in green. For some reason they don't have it in green on their website but the fit is really good. It's quite heavy and just falls in all the right places. They've got it in several different colours in store.

Used my Boden £10 voucher on a cord mini. Also picked up some grey Kurt Geiger shoes for £39. Figured I can get away with silvery grey to work with blues/greens/reds.
