HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Sounds lovely charitygir. I'm wearing a gorgeous turquoise jacket from Mango but with a white blouse and black trousers. I am really lacking in basic brown trousers and skirts. I threw some away as too old when I left my last job and have not replaced them due to not finding gany I like, although am waiting on a delivery of a brown suit from Austin Reed.

charitygirl · 12/09/2013 16:17

Right - I've ordered the mushroom, though the 12 had already sold out since this morning so I'm optimistically trying the 10. I have gone back and forth on leather leggings many times (not the first pair I've tried...) - these are either going to be a forever love, or I must accept that they're not really me.

charitygirl · 12/09/2013 16:25

Brown trousers are SO are to find (that aren't rank). I'm not a huge fan of dark brown but I'd love more trousers/skirts in the lighter shades.

GeorginaWorsley · 12/09/2013 17:18

Iv said before on this thread that brown was easy to find a few years ago but less so now
I have the Bistro trousers from Boden in a tobacco colour.

Hopasholic · 12/09/2013 18:03

I'm feeling very 'Autumn leaf' today Smile

Took Queenofwhatever's advice and had a trawl through my wardrobe. I'm wearing khaki skinnies with a mustard and rust print top with brown suede boots, so I do have some autumn clothes after all! Every time I'm out or even watching TV I'm looking at what people are wearing thinking 'ooh that's good for an Autumn!'

I can definitely see how having clothes of the same pallet will help in pulling outfits together.

Still not managed to start the cull but hopefully I'll get started on Saturday!

I've just been through my swatch book and marked all my 2** colours, it's killing me not buying anything but I must cull first!

Camel pencil skirt was on the list but it's sold out in my size Sad

charitygirl · 12/09/2013 19:06

That outfit sounds lovely hopsaholic.

shopafrolic · 12/09/2013 20:33

I've ordered this coat today. It was too tempting a discount.......
I love the sound of your outfit Hopasholic
I've had a big cull and am selling some more bits on EBay that are the wrong colours for me. I confess to hanging on to a few black items though.....

buildingmycorestrength · 12/09/2013 22:01

Got a lovely burnt orange cowl neck top today. Grin. Plan on wearing it to smart-casual day event on Saturday with my teal stretchy pencil skirt...not sure which shoes.

Today I wore deep purple skinnies, dark grey floaty tunic and a mustard-ish cardi with this Orla Kiely scarf someone gave me a couple of years ago. It makes everything work.

charitygirl · 12/09/2013 23:01

Gorgeous coat shop! I have just finished dying an old grey trench...terracotta. It looks ridiculous but I am hoping that once I've changed the buttons (the contrast at the moment is way too Boden) it'll make an acceptable stop gap while I find the perfect mid weight jacket/coat.

Rules · 12/09/2013 23:07

Oooo....can I join in please. I'm a warm autumn and although I can wear black as I have golden blond hair, I prefer Brown. Love tomato red and leaf green. I have dark green Brown eyes and warm skin covered in freckles.

HerbertGistcool · 13/09/2013 07:08

Saw a love ly brown suit in planet at House of Fraser yesterday and they didn't have it in my size. Said they could order or I could look online. Online I could find some brown trousers And a jacket in different shades and 2 different sizes (8 and 16)).
Aaargh !

fififolle · 13/09/2013 07:39

Just jumping in with my first proper 'autumn' purchase here.
The colour is beautiful and the jumper is so comfy. I'd never e have considered this colour before having my colours done but even my head-in-sand husband commented on how nice it looked!

shopafrolic · 13/09/2013 08:19

Rules sounds as though we have similar colouring - I'm a warm deep Autumn and can still wear black providing I have a good red lipstick on! And the black needs to be duller IYSWIM not pure dark black.
Tomato red is good on me and although I haven't bought anything yet, leaf green looks good too. Also purple and the darker teal colours.
How's the quality on the Uniqlo cashmere fififolle? It's a great price.
Well done on the dyeing CharityGirl I'm considering trying that on some things of mine but I'm scared of the after effects on my washing machine!

Hi shop....Im not a natural blond though, originally I was a dark brown with red undertones. Went blond many years ago and my whole face lighted up. I look so much better as a blond.

Roshbegosh · 13/09/2013 12:42

Anyone seen any nice autumn scarves in the shops at the moment?

charitygirl · 13/09/2013 12:52

Rosh - this &otherstories scarf caught my eye recently - it feels truly gorgeous, and is a more coppery colour than it looks online, really good for deep rich autumns.

Otherwise, TK Maxx always has a staggering range of scarves and as they're usually sub £10, you can be braver with choices.

shop - don't fear the dyes, the Dylon ones I use (from Robert Dyas) leave absolutely no residue in the machine (I did a white wash straight after!) - amazing. Of course, polyester thread doesn't die, and I hadn't fully understood just how much pale grey thread there is on a (now terracotta) trench. Hum.

Leather leggings arriving tonight! V excited (but being realistic - they have to be perfect to be kept, and the 10 may not even fit...)

charitygirl · 13/09/2013 12:54

Lovely sweater fifi!

Roshbegosh · 13/09/2013 14:03

Thanks charitygirl , love the scarf and I will steel myself to go to TKMaxx.

Hopasholic · 13/09/2013 15:20

I know I said I wouldn't buy anything yet but....... I was returning a grey dress and black trousers Smile and saw a chocolate brown cord skirt and a fitted mustard cardi in next, only £15 each ( I use our local outlet to return) They had a few autumn tops and jackets.

Lovely coat [shop] bet you'll feel amazing in that!

Today I am mostly wearing.... Peacock colours, bumped into a friend who told me I look younger every time she sees me. Yay!

What are you wearing today? Love that scarf by the way charity

charitygirl · 13/09/2013 15:56

Ooh I need a fitted mustard cardi beetles off

Hopasholic · 13/09/2013 16:06

DS has just come in from school and said to me 'What have you come as? Mama Smurf!?'

I am wearing Royal purple opaque tights & jumper. Grin

( I have got a denim skirt on too & a turquoise cardi, otherwise he may have a point)

fififolle · 13/09/2013 16:22

Thanks charitygirl
The uniqlo cashmere is lovely and cozy, perhaps not as soft as some £££ others. I'm planning to hand wash it even though the label says dry clean.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 13/09/2013 20:17

Lots of lovely purchases everyone, I'm trying to be really good and not spend at the moment, unless I find something amazing!

Today I have worn dark mustardy skinnies, long navy vest with sand sheer jumper and a mustard, navy and cream scarf.

shopafrolic · 13/09/2013 20:28

I take it that wasn't the look you were going for Hopasholic? :)

Rules · 14/09/2013 00:02

I have gone over my wardrobe a little today inspired by you ladies. I put clothes up against my face and now need to look at the colour charts. I know im a warm autumn cause I always look like im a little tanned and have freckles and dark green brown eyes. Im naturally warm brunette but am now magically light golden blond. Have not had my colours done so am going to look at charts tomorrow.
