HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

Thanks hopefully. I tend to be a bit impatient/impulsive with clothes, which is why I had it done Smile so yes, thanks for reminding me to take it steady!

QueenofWhatever · 08/09/2013 17:57

hop I agree that it takes a little while to get your head around it. I was pleased to be an autumn, especially a vibrant autumn. It made me realise that I had worn a lot of the 'right' colours when I was younger (greens, browns, bit of coral), but had drifted into too much black and muted spring/summer colours. I feel and look so much better this way.

Not meaning to sound rude, but with that many clothes you have no idea what you have and haven't got. I wouldn't go out and buy four new tops, but go through one wardrobe at a time and separate your clothes into right and wrong colours. By the law of averages, you will have some things in the right colours.

I took the advice and split my wardrobe into two. Then I was disciplined enough to eBay the wrong colours and made enough to buy this Peony and Moore bag.

Shopping becomes much easier, as you can discount I reckon 75% of the stuff in shops that is black, grey and white.

RockMummy · 08/09/2013 18:34

The bag is gorgeous Queenofwhatever. Well done for being disciplined and selling stuff. Have been up the town alone this afternoon and found very little in autumn colours. They seem to have jumped straight to mostly cold winter colours so only came back with some chocolate skinnies which were in Debenhams.

Hopasholic · 08/09/2013 19:16

Not rude at all Queen spot on actually Blush

She does offer a decluttering service Smile

Gorgeous handbag!

QueenofWhatever · 08/09/2013 20:10

Tell me where you are hop. If you're near, I'll come over - I LOVE decluttering other people's wardrobes!

charitygirl · 08/09/2013 20:45

I wasn't disappointed though v suprised. I wore as much autumn stuff from my wardrobe (about four things!) as I could to start with, and I dyed a few white/grey things which was fun. I de-blacked my wardrobe sharpish (if I ever get made redundant I have a lot of beautiful things that need ebaying) and then I admit I bought a lot of new clothes over a period of 5-6 months.

When shopping I note that I am far less impulsive and never buy duplicates - because I now really love and value 90% of my clothes Im far less likely to forget that I already have a pair of olive skinnies.

Ive also bought lots of lovely jewellry and scarves and since the style day I really know how to buy jewellry that feels like me.

Don't be disappointed - autumn colours combined are so beautiful.

Hopasholic · 08/09/2013 23:14

That's just how I want to be charity girl
Aiming to get it down to two wardrobes and to love everything I have.
I do feel better about the cours now I've had another look through the swatches, think it was just a bit of a shock as I love pinks/grey/plum etc

Scarletohello · 08/09/2013 23:16

I felt utterly traumatised after my colour analysis. I so didn't want to be Autumn. I thought it was frumpy and unfashionable. Most of my wardrobe was black too! However.. Ten years on I love my clothes! Shopping is so easy now, I know exactly what suits me, I look younger and most things in my wardrobe matches. Oh and I get lots of compliments on my clothes!:)

It was a long process tho. Gave away a lot of black clothes, bought a few scarves, took my swatch out with me when shopping and slowly built up my new wardrobe. I love colours now, it's a challenge but so worthwhile!

HerbertGistcool · 09/09/2013 07:19

Hello can I join? I've been lurking for a few days and have finally read the whole thread. I got my mum's colours done a few years ago as a present and did mine at the same time 'to keep her company'.
I have been looking for a new suit for ages and yesterday found a brown one at Austin Reed in the sale online. No trousers in my sizebut got skirt and jacket. I really hope other is good. I did buy a new black suit in Jan from Hobbs (also sale) out of desperation as all my other non summer suits are 10+ years old.
Also bought a bright red raincoat online this weekends. Not sure if that's off

HerbertGistcool · 09/09/2013 07:21

other is good - it is good

Not sure if officially one of my colours but I do like myself in red.

Spottycurtains · 09/09/2013 22:11

I've been looking for colour combination inspiration online and have found many sites refer to warm, soft or true autumns.
Which would be the closest to a vibrant autumn?

Hopefully · 10/09/2013 08:23

I believe that the closes to a vibrant autumn is a warm autumn (leaning towards spring), but I may be wrong! A true autumn is what I would call an Autumn leaf, and a soft autumn is, erm, a soft autumn. Deep autumn equates (roughly) to a blue autumn.

Roshbegosh · 10/09/2013 08:28

When I went to HoC years ago she just classified me as Autumn, these subcategories are so confusing and it can be impossible to find anything right. I would love some trousers in dark olive or something else that would blend with the palette but there is nothing in the shops. I just bought a red coat too, hope its ok as warm shades do suit me but do I look like a letter box? Knowing I am autumn has even a good thing but it can introduce a lot of anxiety about what to wear as well.

shopafrolic · 10/09/2013 08:30

Morning Hopefully is a blue autumn closer to the winter or summer end of the colour spectrum out of interest?

MadBusLady · 11/09/2013 12:08

Morning autumn ladies, I have an ankle boot recommendation! Especially good if you are vegan/vegetarian, slightly wide of foot or skint. They are synthetic and £35 and comfy as slippers. Also come in black and this equally autumn friendly mushroom colour. Look a lot funkier IRL than they do in the pictures somehow, I wouldn't have bought them online.

Hopefully · 11/09/2013 12:34

Shop closer to Winter. Soft autumn is kind of closer to Summer (in that is is the slightly less warm, most muted tones). NB to the uninitiated, this doesn't mean that, eg, I can wear winter colours as a Blue Autumn!

sedgieloo · 11/09/2013 13:13

Hi autumn ladies! I lurk sometimes. I reckon I am a autumn or spring of some kind. I can't see how I will in the near future find opportunity to get my colours done properly because appointments are so long and I have a two yr old and a baby. Getting sitter is the problem plus I bf.

Thing is I have dropped all my baby blubber on 5:2 after 4 us of being pregnant or bf and I need clothes. I've binned all my mat/post preg and make do stuff. Plus I've just quit my job so work clothes are not much use, plus they look old fashioned.

Any ideas how I can figure this one out at all. Is it a mad idea to post a picture and get you to see if anything looks familiar?!?

I'm a mac nc15+ with brown eyes that close up are warm brown mixed with olive. Sort of hazel. Light brown hair. Very much darker brows and lashes. Hmmm nondescript blandness! That's no help is it! Get complements in tan, coral, bright orange, bright red, light blue (?) Bright clear purple, lime. Not khaki tho. Sorry to gate crash. Apologies both babies in bed for once and I had five mins!! Any ideas welcome!!

shopafrolic · 11/09/2013 16:06

Thanks Hopefully and phew! I thought I'd killed the thread for a minute there.....

shopafrolic · 11/09/2013 16:08

sedgieloo this isn't going to help but self diagnosis is really difficult and the best way is to get draped. There are websites that offer basic questionnaires for self diagnosis but posting photos won't really be the answer. It sounds as though you could be an Autumn from some of the colours you mention but then light blue threw me! Not sure.......

Roshbegosh · 11/09/2013 21:56

There is a kind of duck egg blue that works, and anything approaching teal.

charitygirl · 12/09/2013 11:10

Ok, level with me. Is mushroom really an autumn colour, or is it summer? There is an important reason - I want leather leggings but not for £600 and not in black. I am a HoC purist, but can't remember where they stand on mushroom. Thoughts welcome.

Could these be autumn?

www.theoutnet.com/product/402399

I know these are summer - but how gorgeous?
www.theoutnet.com/product/386374

Hopefully · 12/09/2013 11:37

Charity I would do them, and I'm a consultant Smile. I'm imagining holding them up against a Summer's face and can't see it working!

Hopefully · 12/09/2013 11:38

I would probably do the other pair too if they turned out to be aubergine enough

Hopefully · 12/09/2013 11:39

I have Drome leather leggings in a petrol colour, but they have gone up almost £200 since last year on Matches Shock (and no petrol colour this year).

charitygirl · 12/09/2013 11:42

That's so helpful Hopefully. I am v tempted by the plum now you've said that - I love the texturing. I'm an ingenue natural so I think the tiny patter is quite ingenue. Will report back.

What are people wearing today. I'm in chestnut tapered trousers with brown brogues, a pale olive shirt, and a leopard print cardi. Not a 2star outfit I feel but not too shabby.
