HoC Autumns

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

So the Helmut Lang leggings are an amazing autumn colour - more light olive than 'mushroom', and the size is right. But I don't really know if they look startling different/better than jeggings - and at £330, they need to. I'm not excited to wear them tomorrow, which I usually am with new clothes.

So I am now thinking that if I return them, I could get these instead in petrol green

Or these!

Have also finally spotted a few jackets I like (albeit the rag & bone is old out in my size)

With all this loveliness out there, I'm not sure I can justify a pair of suede leggings I'm 'meh' about.

sedgieloo · 14/09/2013 22:10

shopaholic thanks for trying to help me re diagnosis. I will try and muddle through. It's a shame the appointments for draping are so long, I am going to have to hold on until my babies are a bit older I think.

Roshbegosh · 15/09/2013 05:46

Love those jeans charity girl not that they would be right for my heftiness. The suede leggings might be an original wardrobe staple that you wear a lot and no one else has or they might be a bugger to look after and get ruined. It is a lot of money.

buildingmycorestrength · 15/09/2013 08:17

To be fair, I resent paying £20 for a wardrobe 'meh', so I'm probably not the person to comment on the leggings! I'm so excited about my two new tops that cost £15 each, I just want to be that excited about every item now. Grin.

charitygirl · 15/09/2013 14:08

Exactly building - I have things I love that cost a tenner, there's no room to accept anything less! Leggings are going back.

Hopefully · 15/09/2013 17:47

Charity I have been tempted to order those Me&Em leggings, but they are so £££ for essentially leggings. Will be interested to know what you think if you order though.

charitygirl · 15/09/2013 20:58

I know - I expect them to take INCHES off my thighs.

Scarletohello · 15/09/2013 23:42

Fed up today, went round lots of shops and even tho it's Autumn, couldn't find hardly any Autumn colours in the shops! It was all black, grey, navy, purple. Bleugh! Oh well, guess will just have to buy a new lippy( ha the autocorrect said 'puppy'!)

charitygirl · 16/09/2013 08:13

I know Scarlett...though royal purple is autumn, and I got a great purple dress in River Island. I've seen a bit of rust and there's still tons of (usually uninspiring) khaki about, but otherwise a ton of grey! And I hope this pink trend doesn't take off - useless for us!

GypsyFloss · 16/09/2013 11:18

Can I ask a dyeing question please? I have tan 5 pocket jeggings that are just a bit meh , can I dye them forest green without lightening them first? Will they end up khaki -ish ? Which is the colour I'd ideally like them to be.

charitygirl · 16/09/2013 12:58

Gypsy - what's the fabric content? If they're close to 100% cotton you should be ok, I would think forest green on tan would make a sludgy khaki or olive. I recently dyed a grey coat w/o lightening and was v impressed with how true the colour came out.

Planning to due a dark grey blouse bright orange next...

onlysettleforbutterflies · 16/09/2013 13:02

I have bought some olive jeggings from Sainsburys, they feel really soft and seem quite stretchy, so hoping the knees stay tight in them.

What colour do you wear with british racing green? I always get a bit stuck with it.

GypsyFloss · 16/09/2013 13:14

Thanks charitygirl, that's what I was hoping to hear. They're 100% cotton and I know the fabric dyes ok as I reblacked two pairs of the same type yesterday with success.

charitygirl · 16/09/2013 16:38

only - chocolate brown? Cream? They sound right, though I'm not 100% confident I know what British racing green is!

By the way - popped into Bennetton today and they had some good autumn colours. Nice teals, oranges, and browns.

GypsyFloss · 16/09/2013 19:03

Ok so the tan skinnies dyed with forest green have turned resolutely green...with tan stitching. Not quite what I'd aimed for but much better for me than tan. Still need to locate some khaki/olive trousers...

onlysettleforbutterflies · 16/09/2013 19:57

Thanks charity, not sure I am very good at describing colours lol.

Rules · 17/09/2013 18:39

I have a question....if u change your haircolour, how are you supposed to assess then?

buildingmycorestrength · 17/09/2013 19:36

Yeah, I'll go grey/white over the next couple of years which will presumably change things?

Rules · 17/09/2013 20:25

See that's the thing building I used to have warm dark brown hair and went blond years ago but I still suit autumn colours, so I don't think it does change your colours that much. Black suits me better now though.

charitygirl · 17/09/2013 21:08

No, your hair colour doesn't change your season (though I think your best colours can change as you age) as your skin tone is more important. You can obviously make better or worse hair dye decisions for your season tho.

Oh gypsy - yes, thread is nearly always polyester so doesn't dye. It's very annoying.

Rules · 17/09/2013 23:11

Thanks charity. I didn't think it did on the whole. My hair being blond has completely lifted my face and I look years younger but still look best in Autumn colours.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 18/09/2013 18:16

Hurrah, had my consultation today with CMB. I am warm, soft and deep. Can anyone tell me what this converts to in HOC? I'm guessing it's an autumn of some sort. Love all my colours although I have now had to ditch loads of black tops. I didn't realise I had so many!

shopafrolic · 19/09/2013 13:42

coated skinny jeans for Autumns. I've ordered as an alternative to leather......

TheWombat · 19/09/2013 13:54

Ooh shop those look fab. Envy Wish I could make coated skinnies look good - somehow too 'edgy', I need to find a way to soften them up a bit. I love the idea of leather / coated jeans, but I might have to accept I'll never pull them off. The whole 'French voguette' look is one I love, but I can't do it .

I have just jumped on the Jalouse bandwagon with these Ash Jalouse boots in wood ash - great autumn alternative to black, they are a very dark browny-grey colour. If you're a deep autumn I think they'd be a perfect colour.

Hopefully · 19/09/2013 15:49

Rules as Charity said, changing hair colour doesn't alter your season, but there will be some dye colours that go with your skin tone better than others (as with clothes).
