HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Fooogle, maybe see if you can go alone and throw in some questions about colour and lipsticks? I think it's inevitable that questions about colour will come up in style a bit and I can't imagine they wouldn't let you discuss one in the other, particularly if you were looking to buy some lipsticks from them that you liked!

Aquelven · 06/11/2013 10:25

I thought turquoise was one of our colours, is it the wrong shade?

Aquelven · 06/11/2013 10:44

Beginner, I was the same, thinking I might be a classic ingenue, but tea dresses are definitely not my thing. Don't do dresses much at all really, prefer seperates, but do like a waist otherwise I look bigger than I am being large of chest & a real shorty shanks at 5'1". Having the dogs I live mostly in jeans or trousers of some sort as it's more practical, perhaps I'm more a natural. Though someone posted a link to here
trepanrr.tripod.com/personal_clothing_styles.htm
And the body types of classic & natural are not me at all. The only body/face descriptions that I fit are the romantic & ingenue, suppose gamin at a pinch though I'm not angular at all. Wonder if a romantic ingenue is supposed to knock about in jeans & scruffy -ish kennel clothes? Confused Suppose the only way to find out is to just go but my nearest lady is booked up at the moment. Do they make allowances for your job? Suppose they'd have to if you wore a uniform....a romantic WPC Grin.... Sparkly, lace trimmed handcuffs??

Jumping saw these

Or there's these, which also come in other colours

Or longer & flatter

They're all Hush Puppies so at other shops too. Debenhams have them but £5 dearer for some reason.

BeginnerSAHM · 06/11/2013 11:03

Heh Grin! Love that idea aquavelen!! Yup, seen that link before and don't for any of the body types really... 5'5'', slimish pear shape (8 1/4 stone), v v 'fine' bones (puny really), frizzy/wavy mousey hair that I prefer smooth. And I'm a solicitor - so that would have to be a 'classic' although I don't fit the body type really.

Actually, I don't like any of the 'types' either. I'm obviously v fussy. The 'colour me beautiful' book has a type called 'city chic' and I'd like to be that (but suspect I'm not Wink).

Reckon I might be natural-ish but that might be because I'm too lazy/tired to dry my hair and all that mani/pedi stuff. (Happy to have somebody give me a mani or pedi though Wink.)

We'll see! Not totally confident that my consultant will work it out though as I don't really fall into any of the types!!

I'm on the look out for ingenue police officers now (presumably men have style 'types' too??)....

Hello all have been nosey lurking on here a few times but thought I'd join in today!

I am a blue spring too, and a romantic ingénue Grin (waves to Gillybobs who has as always been giving such fantastic advice and support on here).

Aque - rom Ings can knock about in jeans and scruffy ish kennel clothes - as long as we have our details such as lacy bits, bows, sparkle etc and fitted waist! Ingenues are girly princesses, but our romantic side makes us a little more grown up, so lower necklines - but often lower hemlines too (we tend to be a little chunkier of thigh? well I am at least), and a little bit more glamour (which I personally cant do struggle with! On my style day we talked about how our style types might be adapted for our different jobs too (although I'm not sure how a policewoman would do romantic ingénue!!)

I can totally recommend the style day for people like me who were stuck in a rut, I think you either know these things for yourself or you don't, if you don't then the style day may open up a whole new world for you!

Aquelven · 06/11/2013 11:35

Hello & welcome butterfliesSmile
Your name is brilliantly apt for your style!

Well, the girly princess in bows sounds more like my littlest dog than me Grin or even her brother being Yorkies. My other breed, Skye Terriers, are definitely much more the natural type, big boned, short of leg accessorised with unmentionable stuff from outdoors

BirdyBedtime · 06/11/2013 12:22

Yes Aque not the right shade - probably more of a dark petrol than turquoise.

Joycey29 · 06/11/2013 13:11

Wearing my new grey boots with my lovely coral trousers with a jade cardi over a navy vest.
Love that I m feeling springy!

Gillybobs · 06/11/2013 13:21

I can confirm that Butterflies is a fine example of a Romantic Ingenue waves

Jumping, my boots don't seem to be on the M&S website anymore, might be worth checking in store for them?

Its honestly pretty hard to guess your style type, to those swithering I say definitely do it, it will be more than cost effective in the long run!

Mumelie · 06/11/2013 14:20

Hi. Back from work now so can post links and join in Wink.
Reading your link Aque I am so an Ingenue Classic. Ingenue being body shape and classic personality (although I'd like to think I'm more exciting then that Shock). Thanks for the link though, has clarified it for me.
Hi to ojbsmum and butterflies Smile - I'm a Blue Spring too so hopefully we'll have lots to chat about.
Jumping my chelsea boots as just New Look and although black are quite dainty looking on. They do do them in tan as well. My favourite boots are from Bertie. i have them in tan and black - although wear the tan a lot more - have had them for 5 years now and they were worth every penny - very narrow calf btw. I do like the look of the Victorian style Hush Puppies Aque linked to.
Felt a bit more inspired today and have on a White Stuff navy pencil skrt, navy tights, my tan Bertoe boots, Next cream lace top and a Boden leaf green sort of waterfall Wink cardi. My HoC coral lippie but no scarf today as was all a bit much!
Must check out Benetton for a red jumper!

Joycey29 · 06/11/2013 18:12

Am soooooo excited! Am booked into HOC style day on 16th Nov.
I can't wait now, I ve been inspired by your stories - would not have a clue where to start with self diagnosis! Thanks

butterfliesandflowers · 06/11/2013 18:53

Yay Joycey, exciting exciting exciting!!!

I love the look of the Hush Puppies victoriannas (and also their Freya shoes) but the heel is too high for me for regular (daily )wear. Sad

Today I am in Oxford blue skirt, warm pink lacy vest showing under violet v neck jumper (jumper quite plain but fab colour bought before style day, made more ingénue by the lace and also the brooches).

Topped off by MAC See Sheer as my Sugared Grapefruit doesn't look so good in the winter for some reason!

Joycey29 · 06/11/2013 19:53

Ok so have 10 days to go til I am styled. Have no idea what I am - seriously have no clue!
Anyone want to hazard a guess..

I m blonde curly topped, oval face with a definite nose, cheekbones are there too.
Am 5'4'' and a size 12. Short legs longer back.

I am a teacher and rugby coach. I tend to wear skinny jeans and boots with a jumper from choice but have a wide range of clothes.

Any ideas.......Blush

Gillybobs · 06/11/2013 19:58

Joycey it's based on a huge amount of body measurements and proportions and then a yin/yang questionnaire too, impossible to guess!

Joycey29 · 06/11/2013 20:20

I thought it was a big ask but am just too excited not to begin thinking about it!

Gillybobs · 06/11/2013 21:11

I get your excitement totally, you are going to love it.

Fwiw, I'd be surprised if a rugby coach didn't have some Nat in her....but you just never know!

butterfliesandflowers · 06/11/2013 21:16

I tried to guess before mine, was almost convinced by natural romantic but never even considered ingénue! really cant tell, but a great day all about you!

RipMacWinkle · 07/11/2013 07:34

For Joycey I'm going to guess Nat Ing.... Only 9 days to go before you know. :)

BeginnerSAHM · 07/11/2013 08:04

Yeah, joycey has to same some natural in her!!

I'm off for my style day on the 14th... I'm guessing natural classic or natural ingenue. Maybe. Not keen on frills and flowers though.... Confused. We'll see!

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 07/11/2013 08:55

For beginner I guess Classic Ing.....no basis, just for fun :)

BeginnerSAHM · 07/11/2013 09:12

Hee hee Grin! I think I need to get back to work... Am definitely getting a bit too 'in' to all this Wink.

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 07/11/2013 09:18

An ing who doesn't like frills and flowers??? Nah!!!

Mumelie · 07/11/2013 10:17

I'm an Ing who doesn't like frills and flowers! Think the classic is much stronger in me Wink

jumpinghoops · 07/11/2013 10:21

I'm going to guess Joycey as a Natural Dramatic and Beginner as a Classic Natural. How exciting Grin

Thank you for boot recommendations, Hush Puppies look great and Mumelie I may have just made my first Ing purchase of your beautiful Bertie boots- thank you Flowers
