HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Oh, I always love a comfy old hoody Grin. Am most impressed it's not 'tracksuit' grey or navy (like my twoBlush).

Good morning Springs,

I play that 'what this old thing?!' line a lot with my DP too, sometimes I think he knows I'm being economical with the truth but plays along Grin

I'm on my way to my style day, hooray! Wearing grey skinny jeans, grey ankle boots, chambray shirt, red cashmere crew neck jumper, indigo coat. Maybe slight spring overkill with the colours?!

Will report back later.

Mumelie · 05/11/2013 13:53

Good luck on your style day Jumping - can't wait to hear later what you are!
I'm mega un Spring today in black cardi and a dusky Green dress Sad Trying out a few wardrobe misshaps before I give them the boot. This dress is for the eBay pile, feeling very dowdy.

Think I need some more red in my wardrobe. Had anyone seen any fine knit oversized jumpers?

Aquelven · 05/11/2013 15:56

Looking forward to hearing how you got on today, Jumping, please give us all the details. I'm planning on booking mine soon only the days she has available aren't convenient for me this month.

My hoodies are all black, navy & grey

BeginnerSAHM · 05/11/2013 16:28

Try Benetton for spring coloured knitwear! Really... It's got all shapes and colours.

Dune tan biker boots have arrived. V comfortable and faux fur lined at the top. bit big but will wear them with thick winter socks. Love 'em. Will be clomping around in them all winter. Just need to stop the zip jingling now Wink.

Drumroll....I am a Classic Ingenue. The ingenue part is a revelation even though I knew I was attracted to a bit of sparkle. Everything about the necklines, fitted waists, need for detail makes such sense to me although I couldn't quite pick myself out in the online descriptions. I can wear tea dresses, hurrah, and polka dots, and sparkly bits and lace. Everything I love on others but have never quite had the confidence to put on. Almost everything in my wardrobe is Natural Classic and I suddenly feel that I've been dressing like Charlie Dimmock and someone has given me permission to dress up! Can you tell I'm a little excited? Grin Body shape bit was a complete revelation, I am a very different shape to the shape I think I am. We touched back on colours and I was encouraged to go with some bright on bright combos- some quite wacky!

I cannot wait to go shopping. I think this one will make probably more of an impact on my look than the colour day actually. Highly recommended to all!

Gillybobs · 05/11/2013 18:53

HURRAH! Gorgeous style type, it's true, it's an even more useful day than the colours. So excited for you, you must be buzzing. I know a couple of classic ingenues (one spring, one summer) , both gorgeous gals. I wish the folk who think this is a cult would read your feedback and realise how useful it all is

BeginnerSAHM · 05/11/2013 19:24

Ooh - jumpinghoops, that sounds great!! Very excited for you Grin. I'm still too embarrassed to 'come out' in front of most friends although fessed up to a few mums this morning over a cuppa!

Can't wait for my style day now...Grin

Yippee Jumping. Sounds great and I'm so pleased to read how much you got from it. It's so great when you hear pennies dropping for yourself. I also personally loved the validation that certain things don't suit me so I don't bother trying. Liberating isn't the word.

I agree about the usefulness but everyone is different. I needed time to get my head round the colour bit before I was ready for style. Others prefer the big plunge. Either way it's all good Smile

Joycey29 · 05/11/2013 20:41

Oh Jumping! I am now sold on it!

Joycey29 · 05/11/2013 20:50

Just contacted HOC Jan from Bath as recommended!
I blame you lot Wink

Mumelie · 05/11/2013 20:55

Great combo Jumping! Same as me (or am I the other way round? Can't remember! ).
I kept trying to wear natural style too and it felt all wrong.

jumpinghoops · 05/11/2013 22:42

I really am buzzing, thankfully we have my mum staying with us and she humoured me as I went through it all. I agree Rip that I would have found it quite a lot all at once, I had my colours done just under 2 years ago. Although, having said that, I have found myself feeling stuck since then and maybe would have felt a little less so were I to have done it sooner.

Mumelie, what are you doing re. boots at the moment? I have been told to look out for delicate heeled boots, nothing heavy at all, absolutely the opposite of almost every pair of boots I own. Some kind of lace up Victoriana sort of style was mooted but I haven't seen anything like that around this year. Gilly, would you mind linking to your stretch kitten heel boots again please? I think they were grey?

Joycey, you won't regret it!! It's a great experience to go through.

Aquelven · 05/11/2013 22:56

Oh, that sounds great, Jumping. Sounds like you had an amazing time & got lots of ideas. How many others were there on the course today?

It seems to be quite thorough, going back through colours as well as shapes. Did you have to strip off like it says on the website?

ojbsmum · 05/11/2013 23:31

I am apparently a blue Spring and am slowly getting used to bright colours. So pleased to find this thread, and marking my place to come back and read all your thoughts and advice before I go shopping next week!

Fooogle · 06/11/2013 04:42

Oh jumping that sounds great. Also sounds like a rather enviable style type Grin I harbour aspirations in the direction!
Was reminded of some hush puppy boots that are lace up (vivianna?) which looked quite Victoriana esque? Not sure if heal dainty enough though? (Slight dread if I needed dainty heal as walk like a horse!)
Still can't quite justify the money for style though wondering if I should not do £45 rerate I was going to book and save up? I d still really like lipstick and colour combining advice which I guess I won't get at style day? What do you folk think? Also lady has option of me alone or me in group...?

Joycey29 · 06/11/2013 06:38

Jan can't fit me in before Xmas and am then away for 3 weeks!
Hmm

Mumelie · 06/11/2013 07:04

Jumping - boots wise (slight obsession with me) I do struggle with a delicate heel as I have small feet for my size and knee problems! I do like quite dressy looking boots though. I have just bought some Black (yes I know) chelsea boots - not at all clumpy and look cute with dresses. I'll link later as on phone at mo. Try Jones for lots of different styles. I like Bertie as a brand too.

Good luck with it all, I feel I'm still taking it in 6 months on. I wish there was as much info on the Internet about style day as there is about colour.

Aquelven · 06/11/2013 07:54

Oh, Jumping, I have a pair just like that from a couple of years ago. Almost knee length, lace up front, small shaped heel in a bronze colour. Not much use to you! But I bought them from Clarks, in the sale, so they may have something similar this year. I'd probably turn out a completely different style so they wouldn't do Confused

ojbsmum Welcome to the thread Smile
I'm a Blue Spring too. What are your two star colours? We might have the same!

jumpinghoops · 06/11/2013 08:04

Hi Ojbsmum, glad you have found us! Thanks for recommendations of places to start looking for boots. A wedge was also suggested as not too heavy-boot like and I think a pair of navy suede wedge boots might also creep onto the list. I've wanted some Chelsea boots for ages Mumelie- please do link.

I was v lucky that noone else had booked onto my style day so I could go through what I needed to. I asked about colour combos and contrast as it had been discussed on here and I wanted to check I was a bright spring as from the 12 blueprints crazy lady's descriptions I thought I had lower contrast than other bright springs seemed to. I think technically this isn't covered in style but as I'd asked she helped me with it.

For anyone in the South/South East, I went to see Alex Turchyn just outside Brighton. She was brilliant Grin

BirdyBedtime · 06/11/2013 09:43

Welcome ojbsmum.

Jumping - that all sounds great and all of this style conversation is making me wobble a bit about whether I should go ahead and book a style day (although I'd have to save up as next year's birthday present from DH is already sorted). Anyway, I saw some lovely boots in John Lewis the other day - navy suede long boots with kitten heels - and only £37 - no laces but still might be good for you. I'm tempted to go an get them myself although am rubbish with that type of heel. They also had wedge ones but in a dark greeny turquoise which I don't think is quite springy.

BeginnerSAHM · 06/11/2013 09:55

Welcome ojbsmum! Think I'm a blue-ish spring too (but not convinced) - am going to clarify on my style day.

Hmm - there I was thinking I'm probably a classic ingenue (or ingenue classic or whatever) and now I'm not so sure. Love my clumpy (tan) biker boots and don't like my 'Victorian' style more dainty ones. But I think clumpy boots make legs look thinner Wink. Not keen on tea dresses (on me) either.... Maybe I'm the Charlie Dimmock type Grin.
