HoC Spring thread....

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it....) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Hi shopalot! Yup - am definitely a 'clear spring' or 'clear and warm' (current classification system) in CMB. Camel isn't in the CMB palette for clear spring at all. There is 'beige' and 'honey' in the HoC Spring palette which are close to camel - colour names are all rather meaningless anyway I suppose . Honey is a bit richer and good for me (one star in my recent HoC rating) but I don't do well with beige - a lighter camel I suppose.

If listening to my CMB person (who I actually thought was v good) - coats for clear springs should be charcoal grey, navy or chocolate. Mid grey is ok. Or a clear bright colour would be great (not so useful though!).

But I think camel is classic and can look v expensive if you can pull it off. How's your eye? Can you 'see' what colours work on you now? I'm not sure I can, especially in shop lighting.

I was in TKMaxx today & couldn't find even one thing in spring colours. They had some lovely knitwear but all in autumn or even summer colours.
I'm finding it very difficult at the moment to find anything in the shops.

I was looking at the Boden boiled wool coat (no collar) ( can't link on phone) it comes in camel, black and what looks like a orangey red- which would be great. I might just go for the orangey red as I do really like it. My last coat was charcoal grey but is worn out and I fancy a change. I also have a few black coats which I get away with if I wear a bright scarf but they are more casual anyway.

Re the colours, I don't really see it myself but people comment when I am wearing a colour so that feels good

The other colour I was wondering about is a bright orange. Should work but from memory my oranges were more pinky on my swatch. Must find my swatch which I have put in a safe place!!

Found swatch. Dh knew where safe place was!!!!! No orange on my swatch but it is very old and I could be missing a page!!??

Our tk maxx is the same. Lots of grey but not a lot else. I saw a nice purple jumper in sainsburys gok which could work and have bought a really nice Kelly green jumper from Uniqlo. I wore it today with my poppy!!!!

Ooh ebaymad congrats on the diagnosis. I don't know if there are any other Golden Springs on here. You must be the opposite end of the spectrum to the Blue Spring and suit all the colours I need to stay away from.

Ooh, Rip, I love that coat! And, actually, red goes with most things if you are truly embracing the springy thing. Think it's gorgeous and it's nice to look cheerful on grey, cold and wet days. Go for it.... (This thread is baaaaad for us...!)

Actually, think I might (personally) even prefer the style of the 'Saint Germain' boden coat. Is that the one shopalot? This one? That camel looks quite dark so might well be ok on us 'clear springs' - and it's more neutral so easier to wear. The red/orange one looks v orange on screen but you can't tell really. Need to order both and try them on (in natural light with a friend with a good and honest eye )!

Stop linking to lovely coats - I'm not paid again for 2 weeks! The Hobbs one does it a bit more colour wise for me but like the style of the boden one.

To those of you who have had style days - I have a express one (3.5 hours - seems a lot...) and have been asked to think about 'objectives'. What did you find most useful? I think I'd like to focus more on my style 'type' and putting things together than how to dress for my body shape. (Got that bit pretty sussed I think - slimish pear so not patterns or light colours on the bottom half etc.)

One of my fave parts was discussing things I'd bought which just didn't work for me, she explained why they didn't work and it was a great way to see the "rules" in action. so take along stuff you can't make work. Another idea is to ask about an area you struggle with, for me that was casual shoes :-)

Thanks Gillybobs! Good tips! I'm going to take a couple of things that i think should work but I don't feel comfortable in. And will ask about casual coats I think. Blazers are not working for me (especially when combined with a scarf as i feel totally mumsy and old) and my navy bum-covering FC wool coat is a a bit smart (well - it was until I wore it all the time and trashed it). Have a long seafolly mac that is practical but a bit wholemeal for me. If you see what I mean .

Suppose I am mumsy and old(ish) though .

I think I'm a Golden Spring because I suit some Browns like Chocolate/Tan/Cinnamon etc, also the lighter shades like Honey.

Might be the Red in my hair makes me closer to autumn than the Blue-Springs, I'm very fair skinned and have light eyes so also suit the brighter colours.

I have about 5 items of clothing that suit my new colours so i'm really going to have to start again.

Gorgeous colour coat Rip, really spring like.

I'm having a slight dilemma over a coat I like - Cream or Navy.

Think i need to go and have a try before I buy mission.

Are you looking forward to the starting again or finding it daunting ebay?

Were you tempted by the style day or happy just with the colour sessions for now?

Beginner I echo what Gillybobs said.... asking about the stuff you want to love or feel you should love but they don't. Also, thinking about how you actually spend your time so you can focus on RL outfits that you will actually wear and will work for you. I found the measurement bit really interesting too. I am more in proportion than I thought I was before I went.... got rid of a few preconceptions I had about myself.

After lusting after a new coat all morning I had to go and treat myself to something to keep me going til payday! Popped into Boots and bought one of the Revlon Lip Butters (great for daytime on my dry lips) in Candy Apple (a lovely red). Dont know how long lasting it is but great colour and feels very hydrating.

The style day was great for me, really clarified why I just cannot do casual. The bit where you bring in items you are having trouble with was fascinating, as was the measuring bit (I was very in proportion too Rip). Interesting to see what the other women on the day came out as - I'd not have guessed from just looking at them.

Isn't it annoying when you see something you love but it's just too expensive.

Although I would have thought a coat is something that would get so much wear and would be worn again and again for years

I'm looking forward to buying new clothes, I have an idea of what colours suit me now.

Going to wait for the style day, which I'm going to book for after Xmas.

I have that lip butter, Mumelie. It was the first red I bought after the HoC one on the day.

Those of you who have done the style day, or have one booked, what did you take with you or do you plan to take?
I've finally gone & done it! Booked the style day in two weeks time. I know & been asked to take some things along but don't know what sort of items. Is it just indoor wear or coats too? Do you just take clothes for the current weather, jumpers, cardigans & things you mostly wear. I have skirts & dresses but hardly ever wear them. Not sure what to take.

I took a mixture of things (new things, stuff I loved and things I struggled with). A leaf Green silk blouse I'd bought after my colours day, an old Blue jersey dress I loved and a grey pencil skirt that was heavily textured (the item I struggled with - NOT good for an Inguene classic apparently).
You could also take shoes or jewellery. Try to think about your current style before you go and have some questions/situations in mind.
I wore navy leggings and a navy vest under a tunic top as you do have to kind of strip off to be measured and see your body shape.

There is a an olive but I can't bring myself to wear a brown parka even if it does suit me.

As you're golden spring - dark stone with gold hardware.... Cream is lovely but totally impractical. And navy will be fine on your but (I think?) not as good as the warmer browns??? And silver hardware won't really work - although I doubt that matters much but might make it look a bit cheaper than the other two on you.

Aque, good news! I'm really looking forward to hearing everyone's style types. Don't worry or think too much about what you take would be my advice, just pull out a few things that make you happy when you wear them, something that makes you feel a bit off and something you've never worn maybe. In my case the polka dot trousers, metallic thread jumper and lace dress were pretty good indications of where my style type fell (we got it all out after style type was decided upon but it was good to see these so obviously fell into ingenue). I also took a leather jacket, some brogues and a cowl neck dress which all felt a bit wrong. No full outfits or anything.
