Thank you for the lovely welcome. I won't stay, I am a paranoid name changer and so never build up a 'name' on MN. I envy those who do, but it's not for me, and hence nor are lovely community threads. I'm sure I am one of many lurkers who feels like part of MNV though, just by reading and enjoying the chat / links Smile

QueenCadbury · 31/07/2013 22:35

Nightie dresses will always be epitomised by the lovely kate

shopafrolic · 31/07/2013 22:38

Well, you're welcome here if you change your mind Inmyshreddies - waves to other lurker a too.
We're a friendly bunch.
QueenC you're a better person than me. I'd have made DH take over, and then hit the wine and shopping anyway!

Other lurkers too - damn autocorrect!

QueenCadbury · 31/07/2013 22:46

shop I'm a stubborn old mule and now I've told myself not to buy anything I'm determined to stick to it. As for wine, I wouldn't have been able to stick to just one glass and I couldn't face having a hangover tomorrow Grin

Drywhiteplease · 31/07/2013 22:47

Ok.....egged on by Shop I am now going to reveal that I've been on a secret mission today....my name is Dry, Drywhiteplease and I work for MNV!!!!Grin

A few weeks ago a lady I know purchased a pair of shoes that Shop had linked on THE VERY SAME day ! Suspicious, non? Hmm I thought, aye up said in Yorkshire accent someone close to me could be a lurker!
Well, said "lurker" has been residing with me for the last 24hrs and I was determined to find out.
She wasn't wearing THE shoes so I tried another tactic....using MNV code words and gauging the reaction I should be heading up MI5 me!!.
Over the course of the day ,"so, where did you find those shoes?" direct approach. Have dropped "Gigis", "Me + Em" and the piece de resistance, when she couldn't remember the designer of her friends amazing shoes......"WANG?"!!!!!!!
No reaction or flinch of recognition at any of the code words.......think I'm safe Gov! Grin. Wink

shopafrolic · 31/07/2013 22:58

Nice one Agent Dry. It would have been hilarious if she'd said "oh this fab bunch of women on Mumsnet who talk clothes and stuff"

pinned some tulle skirts on my want it board. DP has instructed me to pin as much as possible for gift ideas Grin

McNally · 31/07/2013 23:05

Blimey Dry, when I read that I thought you were confessing to working for MN and we were all in trouble for something (not sure what, memories of being in trouble at school rushing back...)!

I also have a fantastic dress from Laura Ashley bought years ago. It is fitted to the knee (on me, I'm short) with elbow length sleeves, black with a white print. It is great quality and hugely versatile. I love it. Don't actually fit into it right now, but never mind... Haven't seen anything similar but love that dress Shreddies. Clearly some gems to be found. Look forward to seeing Amber's pick.

Drywhiteplease · 31/07/2013 23:13

It would be great to see Laura Ahley rise from the ashes.......makes me sad to see British brands go a bit awry. but still psychologically scarred from the 1980s monstrosities they kept churning out

OneLittleLady · 31/07/2013 23:19

I remember the laura ashley shop in the city I was born in, I'm not sure if it's still there but it was a mainstay of my childhood, seeing that meant we were near the sweet shop Grin

BrandyAlexander · 01/08/2013 04:07

Hello inmyshreddies! My very unhip 4 welcomes youSmile hmmm despite Marsha's assurance I think I am definitely not hip enough to be on MNVShock!

Shop, I would miss Milan, Paris and New York too! I have only been to Milan once I think I was too overwhelmed by the fact that it was milan and didn't buy anything! Pre dc, dh and I used to go to New York every few months just for the weekend. We would love to do that again but I don't want both of us to be 3500 miles away from the dc so

QueenCadbury · 01/08/2013 08:19

Do you ever paint your nails at bedtime when you're really tired a d then wake up and realise you did a really bad job...?

libertychick · 01/08/2013 08:50

Morning all.
All the time QueenC - and then I don't have time to remove it and walk around for 3 days with untidy toes!!!

shopafrolic · 01/08/2013 09:00

Morning all - my fingernails today sport duvet imprints QueenC - classy.
Novice I loved Milan - i was in my twenties taking a bunch of clients to the Grand Prix and saved all my wages to buy a Furla bag, Dior sunglasses and a Prada purse. I remember being terrified in Prada as the prices were all hidden and I was scared to ask in case I couldn't afford to buy anything! I'd love to go back with DH one day.

Morning. What a day, glorious!

Shop what a glamorous job, did you love it?

Shreddies well done on the 10!

I have never used nail polish. Am I the only one?

BrandyAlexander · 01/08/2013 09:27

Shop I have had that experience twice. not fun! One was in Rome. I walked into Alberta Ferretti and picked up 2 tops. Almost died when I went to the till.Shock That was about 8/9 years ago and I was a size 10 then, and decided after i left the shop Hmm that the cardigan was too tight. So I ended up giving it away to my sister who was an 8.

The other experience was around the same time in in Battersea. There was a boutique shop there on Battersea rise. We were walking past one day and decided to go in. I picked up a denim jacket didn't see a price went up to the till and it was £400! I was too embarrassed to say I couldn't afford it so I paid walked 50 yards down the round, realised I was being an idiot and walked back in. Ie 2 mins later. She said all transactions were final and wouldn't refund. Angry what I think isn't printable! Anyway that experience cured me of not asking!!!

carrie74 · 01/08/2013 09:52

Hello All

A quicky about the Me&Em T shirt ruch dress. I LURVE this dress, but was too tight to pay full price, playing chicken that it would go into the sale. Now of course it's in the sale, but the smallest size is a L (12-14). I'm a 10-12, and usually wear a S in M+E dresses (although a M in their tighter dresses). Do you think the L would swamp me?

carrie74 · 01/08/2013 10:23

Oh, I've just bought it. Paid for next day delivery, so can return tomorrow as well (before holiday on Saturday am!) if no good. Also slipped these in:

www.meandem.com/sale/summer-sale/ruched-maxi-t-dress/products_id/1466/cPath/876_923_1004

www.meandem.com/sale/summer-sale/v-neck-a-line-dress/products_id/1161/cPath/876_923_1004

Think the stripy one might be great for v hot weather (although not sure on the hem, will have to see what it looks like on). Had my eye on the ruched maxi all season, and then bought the racer back maxi (last season) when it came into the archive, so probs don't need both. Still, we'll see, eh.

I now have more navy dresses than one woman should own (let's count: if I keep the maxi and the T shirt, that's 2, and I've got the box pleat 3/4 sleeved one, and the Martini from last summer. So 4. That's not too bad is it? I wear the Martini once a week at least in summer, and likewise the box pleat through winter. Maybe I need even more...).

Drywhiteplease · 01/08/2013 10:35

Shorts on, halter neck on, Gigis on...picnic made.happy day Grin
Shop and Novice oops

Good Morning everybody. We got home at ridiculous O Clock followed by DS whose plane from Enfidha (Tunisia) was delayed so he landed at 0330 and got home at 8 a.m. He bought me boxes of fresh dates (bit naughty) and am going to make California style date shakes plus ice cream experimentation is on the cards. Also was given some gorgeous Tunisian fabric that I will edge and turn into a tablecloth. It has a beautiful orange red stripe on cream.

Has anybody else's MN side bar turned yellow stripey like mine? or is my laptop about to blow up?

Today I am wearing a Cream twill shorts from Kooples and a navy silk shell blouse with a primrose edging that I bought on holiday from a little independent store in Ajaccio. Am awaiting my &OtherStories sandals delivery. I have scuzzy old navy Espadrilles on at the moment.

mignonette · 01/08/2013 10:53

Not me but how striking is this Maxi skirt? I would love to wear something like this but I would disappear in it.

BrandyAlexander · 01/08/2013 11:08

Carrie make sure you return it if its too big. Only thing that's worse than clothes too tight are ones too loose!Grin They are ruddy gorgeous though!

Mig welcome back. I think that skirt might actually be my height!Grin

carrie74 · 01/08/2013 11:38

Thanks Novice. Will do - not sure I can really justify keeping them all (unless they're all tremaze)
