...when encountering people who go: Oh I'm a 34A when they really are most probably not?

I am finding it hard to convince people out of believing their M & S sizes and refer them to the bra gurus fitting guide. But it's so deeply ingrained into common thinking that anything over a D is massive and that they MUST be a 34/36 frame even when they are blatantly smaller than me and I measure as a 32!

What a fantastic link, Statistically! It explains literally every problem I've been having with bra fit. I've been in the right size for about a year and a half but I still really struggle finding comfortable bras. I've found myself bothered by every bullet point on the list in that post. I knew I had a long torso (I'm 6ft tall so tall in the body in general, and torso wise - well, last time I wore a one piece swimsuit I think I was 9, haven't been able to find one long enough since and had to buy bikinis) but I'd never connected it to my bra problems. This may help in shopping....any suggestions on bras that fit the criteria listed?

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/07/2013 22:31

I'm not sure re bras - the bralessinbrasil lady is a member of a facebook group I use and I think she wears a lot of Ewa Michalaks but I couldn't swear to it. I will have a hunt and see. You could try looking at any of her more recent blog posts and see which bras she likes?

AgathaF · 17/07/2013 22:34

That link was brilliant. I couldn't understand why wearing the correct size hadn't completely eliminated the armpit fat and that explains it perfectly.

sparkle12mar08 · 17/07/2013 22:40

I'm not convinced that it's a long/short torso problem that she's identified, but a high/low bust placement. I'm as short as a short thing but my boobs are very high set (I think) and I suffer from nearly everything she mentions as well.

cessie322 · 17/07/2013 22:49

Thanks for that Statistically. I will try those sizes out at the weekend.

I haven't read the full thread so not sure of the relevance of long/short torso but I know I've a long one.

Very excited here about the fact that I might soon have a bra that fits.

DisneyDiva87 · 17/07/2013 22:54

I measured 29 by 37 so does that make me a 28/30

DisneyDiva87 · 17/07/2013 22:55

Sorry on my phone and posted too soon...

...28FF or 30F or a cup size either side?

surfandturf · 17/07/2013 23:01

OMG just measured myself 'properly' and my correct size is a 30DD. I have been wearing 34C for years!!!! I can feel a shopping spree coming on!!!!

LittleNoona · 17/07/2013 23:04

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Optifit bra?

I'm really tempted and having watched the YouTube video which explains the difference between a normal underworked bra and the Optifit one it makes a lot of sense.

ouryve · 17/07/2013 23:05

Wow, SC! That long torso blog explains exactly why I've finally found a half decent bra in the Curvy Kate range! (I have about 7" between the bottom of my breast and my armpit - they're very low set.

And even when I have a bra that fits me as well as it possibly can, off the peg, I do end up pushing up with my hand and wishing it could do that. I think my boobs are probably so long and droopy on top of my long torso that nothing short of the scaffolding provided by a boned bodice would achieve that level of uplift, mind!

CelticPromise · 18/07/2013 07:48

You're right Disney, happy shopping Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/07/2013 07:55

LittleNoona I haven't tried Optifit however I think most of the "advantages" they list are actually more to do with a good fit than anything else. The "breast focus" image on their "what is optifit" page is actually all things that I would say are due to a bad fit and aren't present on my bras.

throughgrittedteeth · 18/07/2013 08:15

I've measured as a 28ff, this isn't a surprise to me to be honest. When I was childless and rich I used bravissimo for all my bras. Now I'm poorer though I find it difficult to find such small back sizes so I've been wearing a 32E.
I think I'm going to just have to bite the bullet and invest.
I've been telling my friends for years not to bother with la senza fitting and I practically forced my mum into bravissimo so I'll have to start listening to my own advice!

Wiggleewormeywoo · 18/07/2013 10:43

Hello and sorry to jump into this thread, but I wonder if someone could please tell me what size I should be if I measure 28 under and 35 round? Also got one boob slightly fuller than other so does that make much difference? I've been reading this thread and others like it with fascination for ages!! Currently wearing a 34b..... Thank u Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/07/2013 10:50

start with a 28f snd read the post on the bra guru blog about asymmetry

Wiggleewormeywoo · 18/07/2013 10:59

Thanks, will do!

Velve · 18/07/2013 11:42

Morning!
Just wondering, those of you familiar with www.bratabase.com/
what do you think of the real breasts database they're trying to compile.
I rather thinks it's fab and am even tempted to put my own boobs in there. I often think my boobs look nothing like those drawn pictures when you're trying to figure your shape.
I just think that, as I find my boobs difficult enough to buy bras for, if someone has my shape and placement then they can find bras easier, possibly, based on my recommendations of which ones fit me.
Anyone else thinking of putting their breasts on there?

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/07/2013 14:45

ANY LADIES MISFITTED BY MARKS AND SPENCER

over to the other thread please. They would like to know which stores have got it wrong so let's try to get all out experience in one place so they can't keep saying that it is an isolated incidentGrin

IsThatTrue · 18/07/2013 17:16

I did an intervention with a friend today, sent her a link to the bra guru site and she's going to look into it. It feels great to tell people in a 32GG and explain why. And you see a look of recognition come over their faces.

We're definitely changing the world 2 boobs at a time!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/07/2013 19:39

I made my dd Blush by being a bit over enthusiastic about her newly fitted john lewis bras today. It made me feel like a good Mum though and its not like anyone else is going to be admiring the fact that she has a well fitted bra.

beatofthedrum · 26/07/2013 20:28

Oh my goodness. Just read a good bit of this thread. I lost most of my boobs after breastfeeding. They are tiny now. I am wearing a 34b bra. I just measured myself using the Bra Guru guide - I am 31 round the ribcage and 36.5 around the bust (though they are quite empty/pathetic looking hanging down!!) Surely this would not make me a 30E or a 32D? I have really small breasts...I'd love these sizes to be the case but if they are quite tiny-looking is this possible??

sparkle12mar08 · 26/07/2013 20:43

Yes it's perfectly possible, see here - all real women in 30E's. It's genuinely not huge, barely a handful, I promise!

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/07/2013 20:47

beatof, entirely possible! At your measurements I'd also try 30DD and 32DD as well as the sizes you mentioned

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/07/2013 20:47

evening sparkle!

Featherbag · 26/07/2013 20:53

I've spent the last week wincing while on holiday with SIL - she had a boob reduction last year and her surgeon told her she is a 36C, so that's what she wears. She looks SO uncomfortable - the shoulder straps dig way into her shoulders, she has massive overspill at the sides and just looks like someone wearing a bra that's a terrible, terrible fit. I've tried telling her about measuring yourself correctly (as in, telling her I'd never been more comfortable since finding out I was a 34E rather than a 40C, not telling her she looks terrible!) but her surgeon said 36C and he is obviously the one best placed to judge Confused
