Does anyone else now wince after reading the bra threads on here...

...when encountering people who go: Oh I'm a 34A when they really are most probably not?

I am finding it hard to convince people out of believing their M & S sizes and refer them to the bra gurus fitting guide. But it's so deeply ingrained into common thinking that anything over a D is massive and that they MUST be a 34/36 frame even when they are blatantly smaller than me and I measure as a 32!

There is a bravissimo and a rigby and peller in Cambridge which I could get to, can I ask if you would recommend either of these over the other?

They are both excellent but Bravissimo has the edge for me. They have a larger range of bras and sizes and IMHO tend to be a bit better about getting the band size right. R&P sized my DSiL and DM at 1 band size too big (since recitifed!).

My friend bought her average sized 11yo with early puberty breast buds an underwired padded 34A the other day.

I politely said "is she really a 34? I am only a 32".

I was told that yes, thats the one that fits. She's already wearing a size 8. I said yes but I wear size 14 and I am only 32.

But apparently she likes that one for comfort.

How do you successfully intervene those that don't want to be told they are wrong?

LyonsDemesne Try a 32FF/F and a 34F/E. How does your current 34 feel? If you put it on back to front, how far can you pull the band away from your body? If you scoop, do you get overspill in the cup?

LyonsDemesne It's tricky but my friends/family are used to be being quite bossy outspoken! I would try an explanation about how cup sizes are relative to band sizes (e.g. a 32A is the same volume as a 32B, 30C etc) and that the right size will be just as comfortable and more supportive. You could offer to help them both find their correct size and perhaps offer to buy lunch if you're wrong? People often can't resist a wager!

The 34 band is loose by about 2 inches on the first clasp. but loads of over spill. And the dreaded side boob !

where would you recommend to shop in the US for bra's. Victorias secret put me in the 34D recently!

Once you know what a well fitting bra looks like, you will see horrible ones everywhere! It's great to intervene though, got a friend out of her 38s and into a 32 and she suddenly has an amazing waist, as the boobs are not around the bellybutton any more.

I believe that Nordstrom is quite good? Visit the Reddit Sub forum, A Bra That Fits as there are a lot of US Bra Experts there who can possibly point you in the right direction. This is a good site too.

Possibly a bit off topic, but can I ask a bra size change related question? I went from a 32a (as I thought they were the smallest bras in existence, and I have the smallest boobs in existence ) to a 28D/DD, they fit brilliantly and feel so much more comfortable. And I've noticed that I seem to have more norkage since I switched (a few months ago) even when braless so it's not just the effect of the bra. Seems to be about half a cup size so far. Is that normal?? Where's it come from?? And can I have some more?

Yes it's entirely normal. It's down to tissue migrating back to it's proper place at the front instead of under your arms. I went from a 32FF to a 30GG over about 9-12 months due to vigorous scooping

Ok, I have measured myself, got my new size, went to shops today and the new size was like some kind of torture contraption. I could just do it up, breathing was out of the question and the underside was down near my belly button ( tight not baggy). What did I do wrong?

The one thing I regret from when I was intervened about 4m ago was buying loads of bras at the time.

Not a single one fits me now. All the cup sizes are at least 2 sizes 2 small and I may have a couple that could do with a smaller back now that I tolerate them tighter.

I think this is through a combination of

being conservative when I sized myself origonally. There is no way I could get my head around going from a A/AA to a DD/E which I think I currently am. Possibly an F in some styles. I bought Cs (with a band size too big and Ds.
I had a broken finger at the time so my scooping was limited making me buy smaller cups than I probably needed.
I think I can definitely see that I appear to have more breast tissue, which is actually quite pert, even when naked. This is obviously the migration thing.
I have put on a bit of weight which may affect cup size.
increased awareness of the way different styles suit different outfits/cleavage effects and that different styles may require different sizes.

I have seen someone on one of the threads suggesting that you try the largest potential cup size first as it is more obvious when a bra is too big than too small. I also wish I had done this.

Unfortunately I am not in the position to buy new bras at the mo and high streets where prices are better and I can try loads on without outlay don't have the sizes I need available. I still feel I am sat the trial and error stage where I need to be able to try a few before buying.

Nancy. Did you try it on back to front first? I'm not sure what you mean about the underside being down by your belly?

I didn't try it back yo front, it was so tight and yet so massive that the wire was just all in the wrong place.

It's really important to try every bra on back to front as its then only way to test the band without the fit being skewed by wrong sized cups.

Wires that are to big will usually come too far round your body. I've never heard of them hanging down?

Well blow me down. I have had the cheapest boob job in history and it didnt even hurt
Haven't had a chance to get to Bravissimo yet, and probably won't now for a few weeks, so (don't flame me) i bought a 32 F from m&s outlet. (£8.50)
Tbh the band is quite tight and I suspect a 34 would be more comfortable, but I am definitely an f cup. Me an f cup. Woweeee.
