Does anyone else now wince after reading the bra threads on here...

...when encountering people who go: Oh I'm a 34A when they really are most probably not?

I am finding it hard to convince people out of believing their M & S sizes and refer them to the bra gurus fitting guide. But it's so deeply ingrained into common thinking that anything over a D is massive and that they MUST be a 34/36 frame even when they are blatantly smaller than me and I measure as a 32!

I think you'd start with a 32GG or thereabouts based on those measurements. Maybe even a bigger cup depending on fit. You'll need to try on lots and find out which styles suit you.

CelticPromise · 17/07/2013 07:38

Yes 32GG for starters. The dangle measurement should be done pretty loosely so if you've done it tighter you may need another cup or two. Follow SC's advice above about how to check the fit. Happy shopping Smile

I just want to thank SorrelForbes for pointing me in the direction of a 28 back M&S bra which comes up very small in the back.
For the first time in ages I now have a bra on the loosest hook! Also, it's a plunge so I can wear my more cleavagey dresses without showing any bra.

SorrelForbes · 17/07/2013 07:54

InMySpareTime Yey! I had a feeling that one might work, the 28 is so small. I'm going to try and get a 28FF for my niece as she could do with a 26 too.

Can I say thanks to Sorrell who suggested bra sizes for my elderly mum and who got a bra that fits at Bravissimo. Yesterday my mum was showered with compliments over how 'smart' she looked and the only change was her new 32F bra which she was very happy to tell everyone about! Thanks

JKSLtd · 17/07/2013 08:57

Just wanted to let the gurus know I passed on your information to a bunch if old school friends at a reunion recently - they were amazed & one went straight out and got fitted at an independent place and was so impressed with my correct prediction! Keep up the good work ladies!

Maybe 2 norks at a time?!Wink

missbopeep · 17/07/2013 09:00

Can I just ask a rather question re. measuring.
A cold tape measure adds on rather a lot ime because of the nipple effect. Up to an inch in my case. So do you include nipple measurements when you d ngle, or squash flat?

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/07/2013 09:25

Missbopeep, the cup measurement is only ever approximate so we normally recommend trying at least the size either side of your measurement to be sure of fit so that would catch any nipple issues.

SorrelForbes · 17/07/2013 09:25

Hmmm, I'd include, try that bigger size and then size down. Easier to tell when a cup is too big than when it's marginally too small.

SorrelForbes · 17/07/2013 09:26

missbopeep You (and your mum) are very welcome. My mum keeps flashing her new R&P bras at anyone who asks if she's lost weight Grin

SorrelForbes · 17/07/2013 09:27

missbopeep · 17/07/2013 09:33

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/07/2013 10:29

Morning Sorrel!

newestbridearound · 17/07/2013 11:31

Thank you StatisticallyChallenged, I've now ordered a couple of new bras in what I think are the right sizes so I'm looking forward to finding out. I completely ignored my husband's protests, am so hoping to prove him wrong Wink

You ladies are helping boobs everywhere! Grin

cessie322 · 17/07/2013 14:48

I'm going to measure tonight. I recently bought 4 bras in Debenhams, they are 34As and I think they are too big now. Will be interesting to see what my measurements come out as.

Mrchip · 17/07/2013 20:35

Hi

New challenge! I'm 5ft10 and a 32dd (breastfeeding) 30d previously. I think I have my size correct. However, I have to have straps on longest setting as I must have a long gap between boobs and shoulders.
They frequently dig in giving me sore shoulders....I've thought about getting a seamstress to add a bit if fabric at the back and resew straps.....

Any ideas of where I could buy longer strapped bras though?

WeAreSix · 17/07/2013 20:51

I told my friend about @bra_guru today, she was kind enough to share stats :)

M&S made her a 36D. I was Hmm as no way she's a 36. Her measurements make her a 30F.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/07/2013 21:04

Oh now there was a blog about people with long torsos....let me find it

this one might help.

cessie322 · 17/07/2013 22:03

Well I measured myself this evening. After spending nearly an hour in M&S back in May trying on bras the fitter gave me and then spending another 1.5 hrs in Debenhams trying on various bras and eventually buying four 34Bs which I returned for 34As as I wasn't convinced they fit, I now think the 34As don't fit. I measured tonight and the measurements are 31.5 under bust and 35.5 over bust. So would I be right in thinking that's a 32D or should I be going for 30DD?

I HATE bra shopping, I was nearly reduced to tears of frustration in both shops. I still have 6 bras upstairs that are 36Cs that both M&S and HofF have fitted me in. They always tell me I'm between cup sizes and therein lies the problem. Would love if all my bra problems were solved.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/07/2013 22:07

There is such a variety in bras that it's not really possible to be "between sizes" in everything. It's like jeans. In one brand, a 10 might be small, a 12 big...but in another brand or even another pair from the same shop, the 10 or 12 fits like a glove. Which one is the correct size? Who knows!

With your measurements I would suggest trying 30D/DD and 32C/D. You might also want to try one cup size higher - it's easier to spot a cup which is too big than too small, strangely.
