Does anyone else now wince after reading the bra threads on here...

...when encountering people who go: Oh I'm a 34A when they really are most probably not?

I am finding it hard to convince people out of believing their M & S sizes and refer them to the bra gurus fitting guide. But it's so deeply ingrained into common thinking that anything over a D is massive and that they MUST be a 34/36 frame even when they are blatantly smaller than me and I measure as a 32!

Could you tell her you were talking to a "friend/colleague" who had a reduction, and they found that their size still changed after the last appointment with the surgeon as everything settled down and softened again and she recovered? This was true for my friend who had a reduction - 6 months down the line her size changed a bit

beatofthedrum · 26/07/2013 21:17

Wow, thanks for the web link! Feeling much more positive about my hopeless chest, hee!

summerglory · 26/07/2013 22:29

I've just discovered I'm a 32f, now I've just finished 6 months of b/f and my boobs are v saggy (not big at all). My question is to those of you who hv been wearing the correct bra for a long time, do you still hv to scoop?

sparkle12mar08 · 26/07/2013 22:43

I don't have to, I suppose, but a quick scoop each time I go to the loo keeps me perfectly positioned all day Grin

SorrelForbes · 26/07/2013 23:08

I find scooping (especially when I first put my bra on each day) is essential to ensure that everything is siting nicely in the right place.

Quaffle · 27/07/2013 10:45

I was telling my friend about how to measure properly and she went off into town all excited.

She texted me her measurements and I told her what her starter size should be, but explained how the bra should fit/scooping/central gore etc, just in case she hadn't measured quite right.

But apparently she didn't get on very well at all :(

Mostly she said that despite scooping, her armpit fat was worse in bigger cupped bras! How could this be??

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/07/2013 12:10

She probably needed to go bigger still, or the bra just wasn't the right shape for her.

InMySpareTime · 28/07/2013 13:56

I was itching to intervene one woman I saw in an article today (huffington post) about a breast enlargement. She apparently went "from 32AA to 36DD". The picture in the article had the gore away from the chest, quad-boob etc, and had there been a back shot I'm sure the back of the bra would be right up too.
I suspect she's a 30H or thereabouts.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/07/2013 15:31

Oh, another one who has had implants on her back apparently - that drives me nuts!

showtunesgirl · 28/07/2013 20:37

Oh lordy yes.

I am on another forum about something else and several of the ladies have had their boobs done and their surgeons have informed them that they are now a D or a C cup when they look like me and are clearly at least an F! Even surgeons tell people the wrong bloody size!

Can someone tell me what I should be please, for years I've been told I'm a 36AA. It's hard to get pretty bras that fit. I've just measured as has been stated on the thread and I'm 31 inches under my boobs and 34.5 leaning forward and measuring across my nipples.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/07/2013 20:51

30D/32C I would try first Smile

celticclan · 28/07/2013 21:02

You may think it is bad enough people adding 4 inches, you want to hear about my mil. My mil is a size 8, measures 30 around the back and 36 across the boobs so by rights she should be about a 30e. She insists that you only go by the boob measurement of 36 and then size up for comfort. She is wearing a 38B.

She won't be told...

aliciaflorrick · 29/07/2013 08:55

Thanks Spotty just the thought that I might be something than an AA cup has really lifted my self esteem.

Eanair · 29/07/2013 12:24

Measured myself on Saturday and got it confirmed in Bravissimo - I've gone from 40DD to 36G - yikes! My boobs do look awesome now though.

SorrelForbes · 29/07/2013 12:41

It's a revelation isn't it?!

Silverstar2 · 29/07/2013 16:13

Hello ladies - I am wearing my new CK Thrill Me today, as recommended further upthread and it is just FAB. Very 'uplifting', and very soft as well. I went down a back size and up a cup, so am wearing a 32HH. About 8/9 months ago, before my bra intervention, I was wearing a 38D.

SS2

SorrelForbes · 29/07/2013 16:40

The Thrill Me is a lovely bra!

chickenfactory · 29/07/2013 16:48

Can i just post measurements? What should I be wearing? 34' and 40'? Thanks

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/07/2013 17:03

Start with a 34E chickenfactory

chickenfactory · 29/07/2013 17:22

Thanks statisticallychallenged.

MrsJohnHarrison · 13/08/2013 21:41

I know this is an old thread, but Ive ordered a couple of 36H bras from brastop. Fingers crossed.
Thanks StatisticallyChallenged for the help Smile

wickeddevil · 14/08/2013 11:55

Oh oh oh I have had this so wrong...

This thread a big revelation. I have struggled with bra sizes almost since I have had DCs.

I do have a fairly square, chunky rib cage, used to measure around 35" and relatively small boobs. Or at least I thought I did. I have never actually been professionally measured, but used the m&s methodology and tried bras in 38 and and 40. The underwires dug in and so I went up to size 42, usually with a size c cup. Often these still dug in but I refused to believe I needed a size 44 and stuck with it.

Anyway I have recently lost some weight and my boobs appeared lost in my 42C's, they had completely vanished. So I went shopping. My logic went something along the lines of...need a smaller cup size....but can't go down a chest size as my current bras still dig in...I'll buy a 42 A or B. Except you can't buy sizes like that off the shelf, so I wandered around feeling pretty fed up. While in this melancholy though, I noticed several ladies who were considerably larger than me, picking bras up from the fashion ranges. How can they be buying in those ranges, I wondered, when there is nothing to fit my size 12 frame?

Well I came home emptied handed and fed up.

And now I think I know. I have found this thread and I have measured myself as per the instructions. My chest is now 33" and leaning forward, I have discovered I do indeed still have bosoms. They are 39".

So I am sorry this is so long, but thank you for this thread. I might have the wrongest ever bras, but at least I now have breasts. I think I need to be properly measured dont I?

SorrelForbes · 14/08/2013 13:43

OK, don't go to M&S or BHS etc. to get measured. Do you have a Bravissimo near you? If not, you can try and fit yourself, it's not too difficult once you know what to look for. See the Bra Guru guide here for some tips.

Try a 32F/E and a 34E/DD. I suspect the 32F will be the best fit but don't be scared to go up in the cup if you need to.

wickeddevil · 14/08/2013 16:18

Thanks Sorrel
This whole Thing is an education
There is a bravissimo and a rigby and peller in Cambridge which I could get to, can I ask if you would recommend either of these over the other?
