to those of you who's thighs don't rub together ...

... please tell me what size you are and what your thigh circumference is (at it's biggest part).

I am a size 14 but still my thighs rub together and in this heat it's a total pain (literally). How much further do I need to slim down to stop this?! Always been chunky of thigh but surely it's not impossible for me? Currently at 26cm Blush each! what should I be aiming for? 25? 24? 22? 21?

Don't be silly badguider - missbopeep is right, and no-one on the thread is saying otherwise - it's fat, body fat. It's just normal and there's nothing 'wrong' with it, it's not unttractive. She's just calling a spade a spade and it's a bit silly to be offended. I'm sure almost all of us hated our newly curvy thighs as teenagers - learn to love them now, whether you're a size 8 or 28 it's part of being a woman Smile

badguider · 09/07/2013 14:36

The sole cause of thigh rub is not thigh fat, and certainly not excess thigh fat - thigh muscles can rub just as much. in fact, if we're being pernickity, the cause is clearly thigh skin!
I know rugby players with this issue - their muscly thighs 'eat' their shorts and their legs rub when they run.

People with MORE thigh fat can have legs that don't rub and people with far LESS can have thighs that don't rub.

It IS anatomy and the build of your pelvis.

Chandon · 09/07/2013 15:28

Yes, mine are fatty but don't rub

missbopeep · 09/07/2013 15:36

Men with very muscly thighs can have thigh rub, I agree. But how many men are really like that? Often they are fat as well :)

Just to put it in perspective, I recall Sue Lawley interviewing Will Carling ( former England rugby captain) on Desert island discs some years back and asking if it was true that his thighs measured a whopping 24 inches.

Women do not build muscle like men. You'd be a VERY odd woman if you built thigh muscles like a man unless you seriously weight trained or took steroids to build up that amount of muscle. So sorry- but you are kidding yourself if you blame it on 'muscle'.
Think of Jessica Ennis- great muscles, weighs about 9.5 stones, but no thigh rub.

I'm not setting out to be bitchy but in all honesty I have not known any woman with thigh rub who couldn't afford to lose at least a stone and maybe a lot more.

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll · 09/07/2013 15:40

I'm 4 foot 11.5 and a size 6.

My thighs rub! I have chunky thighs and slightly wide hips. I'm so out of proportion Grin

irregularegular · 09/07/2013 15:40

Size 10, 5 ft 4, 19-20 inches.

No part of my legs touch each other when I stand straight - until you reach my ankles. I'm rather bow legged! I guess it has advantages.

LizzyDay · 09/07/2013 15:57

Missbopeep - in this pic Jennifer Aniston's thighs definitely look like they're hitting each other at the top, and her shorts are riding up a bit too. Do you reckon she needs to lose a stone?

But yes of course the fatter you are the more your thighs will rub if you're built that way to start with. I have also known women who were very overweight with non-rubbing thighs - they just had naturally slim legs and carried their weight above the pant-line.

2much2young · 09/07/2013 16:56

missbopeep I've got fat on my thighs and they do rub, I've had thighs with less fat on and they didn't rub so in my case yes it's fat and I could do with losing a stone, probably two and I'm well aware of that. There are a fair few women on here who have thighs that rub who also know that they are carrying fat on their thighs and they could do with losing some weight if they want to try and alleviate this. There are also plenty of women on here who are very small (in my book) a size 8 or 10 who say that their thighs rub ... do you think these women could do with losing a stone or more or do you think they are lying and are infact all much bigger than they are claiming to be? No-one here is delusional thanks

That pic is 'forbidden' according to my pc .

It's surely impossible to tell from a pic- thighs touch but rubbing is another matter.

missbopeep · 09/07/2013 16:57

Oh dear- we have the fat v thin arguments again.

read my posts again, dear- I said 'I have not known'- I don't go around staring at women's thighs all day long.

2much2young · 09/07/2013 17:31

how about you read the WHOLE thread missbopeep and educate yourself?

OP posts:
missbopeep · 09/07/2013 18:10

And your point is?

I've read all of it.

LizzyDay · 09/07/2013 18:13

hmm don't know why pic isn't working.

If you Google Image 'Jennifer Aniston shorts' it's the first pic on my results - she's wearing a black vest top and denim shorts, and her thighs are touching.

Obviously I have no way of proving actual chafage. The point is that you can be very slim indeed (as she is in the photo) and have thighs that touch.

2much2young · 09/07/2013 18:29

my point is that you say you

"don't know any woman with thigh rub who couldn't afford to lose at least a stone and maybe a lot more"

but there are plenty of woman here throughout the thread who are a size 8 or 10 who are saying that they get thigh rubbage. How many women who are size 8 or 10 need to lose a stone or more??

OP posts:
kelda · 09/07/2013 18:32

Thighs that rub when walking is the obvious result of thighs that touch.

Add sweat and heat for a prolonged period of time, then you get chafing.

My thighs chaffed even when I was 8.5 stone (bit taller then average height). It's just the way I am made.

2much2young · 09/07/2013 18:35

coo you big fatty kelda you should get yourself over to weightloss chat for some advice on how to lose that extra stone you're carrying Hmm

OP posts:
kelda · 09/07/2013 18:39

Grin I probably could do with losing a stone now -that was 20 years ago- I am no longer 8.5st! Although strangely enough I am the same dress sizeHmm

missbopeep · 09/07/2013 19:27

2young

Ha!

You missed out the most important word on that quote. It's I- as in I don't know......

herbaceous · 09/07/2013 19:50

My thighs rubbed as much at 9 stone as they do at 11.5 stone. I'm 5'8", and don't think I needed to lose a stone when I weighed 9. My legs have always been thunderous, though, even when I was so slim and went to the gym four times a week.

LizzyDay · 09/07/2013 19:50

missbopeep - So. All the chafers you know are lard-arses, but as you haven't weighed and measured every chafer in the world, are you saying that your theory might have a teeny bit of room for error? Smile

peteypiranha · 09/07/2013 19:52

I dont know circumference but my body shape is close to Kate Moss size. My thighs lightly touch but dont really rub, or cause annoyance to me. I am under 8 stone.

mrsravelstein · 09/07/2013 20:04

size 8, 5'2", thighs 19, no rubbing although i have comparatively fat legs. i often see quite large women with very lovely slim legs (the letitia dean effect) so it must be down to body shape.

Frostybean · 09/07/2013 20:12

I am 11 stone, 5'7" and my thighs are 22" and I have a 1 inch gap due to wide hips. I would happily trade skinny legs for small boobs though (instead of huge norks i currently have) so i could go bra-less. Wearing a bra has to be the worst thing about hot weather.

ShinyBlackShoes · 09/07/2013 20:20

I use Body Glide to help stop my shoes rubbing in the summer with bare feet. It is meant for runners and can be used on rubbing thighs etc. Really worth the money and I got mine from Amazon; honestly wouldn't be without it.

No idea how much I weight as refuse to have scales but I am slightly overweight. I refuse to get out the tape measure too as I couldn't cope with the depression I would feel as I a no where near the size I was when I was young and gorgeous. I am sort of a 10 depending on the manufacturer and a pear shape so 8 on top and 10 below and solidly middle aged and sadly spreading as I get even more middle-aged ;o(

frissonpink · 09/07/2013 20:21

I'm not setting out to be bitchy but in all honesty I have not known any woman with thigh rub who couldn't afford to lose at least a stone and maybe a lot more.

So at 8 stone, 5'5, I could do with losing another stone or maybe more?! Where the hell from??!!

What a load of bullshit!

My thighs rub because my body is built this way Hmm. Pretty sure they'd rub right up until the point I was scarily anorexic and about to keel over.

My mate on the other hand, size 16, with the longest skinniest legs you have ever seen. They have never rubbed and probably never will.

All down to body shape imo.
