... please tell me what size you are and what your thigh circumference is (at it's biggest part).

I am a size 14 but still my thighs rub together and in this heat it's a total pain (literally). How much further do I need to slim down to stop this?! Always been chunky of thigh but surely it's not impossible for me? Currently at 26cm Blush each! what should I be aiming for? 25? 24? 22? 21?

Update for chub rubsters - poundland have lanacane antichafe at the moment. I also gave primark men's trunks a try and they work like a charm even if they do sit a little low. Finally boots have mitchum on offer right now, 2 for £4.

Here is an interesting perspective on thigh gaps, originally taken from a blogger called The Exercist (can't find the original blog post to link to) Mind The (Thigh) Gap Sometimes there's not a hell of a lot we can do about the gap - healthy/unhealthy, skinny/not so skinny may/may not be able to achieve one. Curryeater, I always thimk that about Sir Chris Hoy. Massive thighs before he retired. He was in jeans at Wimbledon and they did look reduced.

Have measured mine now, 24", am size 14 and 5ft 9". That is mainly quads and outer thigh though, my inner thighs are ok, don't rub. Have very wide hips. My thighs are always the last place the flab goes from, this year have lost weight, I know that the next 7lbs loss will mean thinner thighs. My problem has always been sticky outy outer thighs though.

Touching and chafing are different. I am a short size 14 and could definitely stand to lose more than a bit but my thighs never chafe because my hips are so wide I guess.
Last year when all the athletics were on telly I wondered where the likes of the lovely Ennis buy their trousers, because they all seemed to have such narrow hips and such large (super muscly of course) thighs, relatively. They barely seemed to fit in the space when they were twitching about pre-race. It looked like one always had to be in front of the other or they would be too wide to go together under the hips. Narrow hips is of course a good running physique and you need the muscles too, but I bet they lubricate their thighs or they chafe like a bastard. And I bet they have to buy surprisingly big trousers and have them all taken in around the waist and hips.

I'm flat footed too! Will try wearing my insole things tomorrow and tell you if there is a difference!

Also, glad to know I'm not the only person with the shorts riding up problem.

I haven't read the whole thread but sprayyour inner thighs with a strong anti persperant, like mitchum. Solves the problem!

5ft 6, size 14, bit overweight but mostly carried on bust & middle, thighs about 23 ins.

Don't notice rub but don't really wear skirts so not an issue.

I'm 5 ft 2 and overweight, size 14 - 16. Mine are 23 inches (one slightly smaller) and they rub.

23" and 5'8"
Currently pregnant and they have started to rub a little. I think I have a little flabby bit starting to form, right at the top premium rubbing area

Even when I was a size ten, dancing 6 days a week for 2 hours, I never had thighs that didn't touch.

I am now not a size ten!

Maybe having flat feet makes your thighs flabby! Another factor for the equation!

It would have an effect...that'll make the equation more complicated...

I have another observation to throw in the pot - flat feet!

I have them and have worn my orthotics (tres chic no?) today for the first time in a few weeks as I've been wearing flip flops/sandals (and now paying for it Sad). These lift my arches to how they should be and I noticed today that this pulls my legs up and out a little which gives less rubbage! Maybe it's just my anatomy but it would be interesting to see if anyone else with thigh rub is flat footed - particularly the more slender among us where thigh rub is more down to body shape than extra fleshy bits.

allmycats - exactly. Its the angle of your thighbones - which depends on both their length and the width of your hips - plus the amount and firmness of the padding between them.

We could devise an equation ... if there are enough of us to provide the data we could probably win an Ignobel prize for this, you know! Grin

Oh god yes! Shorts riding up on the inside - bane of my summer life. Hence why I've stopped wearing them!

This thread has actually cheered me up somewhat. Thought it was just me with freakishly touching legs! Grin

I am a size 10-12, thighs are 19 1/2 inches and they touch, I could do with losing 2 stone tbh though.

They did the same when I was 15-18 and between 6st and below 7st and a size 6 and spent most days in the gym. It's definitely to do with body shape unfortunately.

Anyone else get the problem with their shorts riding up on the inside? If anyone knows a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated.

I think people store fat in different areas - for me it's the inner thighs for others it's the outer and no rubbing for those lucky sods

allmycats · 11/07/2013 09:41

When I was a 6 stone 10lb size 6 @ 5 foot 2" my thighs rubbed, probably due to my 32" hips. I am now size 10 bottom 1/2 and they still rub. Conclusion - if you have slim hips in proportion to height your thighs will rub - if you are overweight then this will make it worse.

42 cm thighs? My calves (which are mostly muscle, honest) are 38cm! Grin

Report
Wuldric · 10/07/2013 22:57

I think the answer depends upon how tall you are

My thighs measure 42cm which I am told is 16.5 inches. I am a size 10-12 in any shop. But I am tall 5' 11" , BMI in the normal range (towards the low end) and my thighs have never ever rubbed together.
