to those of you who's thighs don't rub together ...

... please tell me what size you are and what your thigh circumference is (at it's biggest part).

I am a size 14 but still my thighs rub together and in this heat it's a total pain (literally). How much further do I need to slim down to stop this?! Always been chunky of thigh but surely it's not impossible for me? Currently at 26cm Blush each! what should I be aiming for? 25? 24? 22? 21?

Are men's pelvises actually narrower though? Or is it just that they don't carry fat on them so they look narrower?

SauceForTheGander · 09/07/2013 11:06

Mine don't but I've chicken legs which give illusion of thinness. Lovely big post natal tummy hidden under baggy t shirts

LizzyDay · 09/07/2013 11:09

Ooh some interesting Wikipedia 'human pelvis' facts:

The principal differences between male and female true and false pelvis include:

The female pelvis is larger and broader than the male pelvis which is taller, narrower, and more compact.[35]

The acetabula are wider apart in females than in males.[36] In males, the acetabulum faces more laterally, while it faces more anteriorly in females. Consequently, when men walk the leg can move forwards and backwards in a single plane. In women, the leg must swing forward and inward, from where the pivoting head of the femur moves the leg back in another plane. This change in the angle of the femoral head gives the female gait its characteristic (i.e. swinging of hips). [37]

Maybe that ^^ contributes to thigh rub??

GrimmaTheNome · 09/07/2013 11:10

Sort of narrower, but the legs go more straight down which may help

But thighs are one of the places women sensibly store reserves so we can make milk and not starve when the hunters return empty handed.

HerbertGistcool · 09/07/2013 11:10

No idea of circumference but am size 8 and do lots if running and cycling.

Chandon · 09/07/2013 11:19

Good facts Lizzy.

Yes I have great wide hips, it is one of those things women bemoan but ( lots of) men find attractive. ( Not me, specifically, but wide hipped women in general) Even though it is not the fashion.

Chandon · 09/07/2013 11:20

This is also why I hate running, don't have the physique

2much2young · 09/07/2013 11:25

oooh Lizzy my pelvis is measuring 12 inches from bone to bone and I am 26 inch thighs - how tall are you? I am 5ft 8

YY to forward and inward contributing to thigh rub!

OP posts:
Chandon · 09/07/2013 11:30

Mine 12 too.

I am telling you OP, half an inch and you're there

GrimmaTheNome · 09/07/2013 11:32

Its not often you learn so much anatomy from an S&B thread! Grin

OctopusPete8 · 09/07/2013 11:49

you can have wide hips and a narrow pelvis , so its not always a given.

frissonpink · 09/07/2013 11:52

24 inches here and rub together.

They have always rubbed together. Even when I was 8 stone and a size 6.

LizzyDay · 09/07/2013 12:16

2much - I'm a bit shorter than you, about 5 foot 6.

Grimma - from the front I look exactly like a lardier version of the pic you posted Grin Interesting that the female thigh bones do go in at more of an angle towards the knee - thus definitely promoting thigh rub!

Octopus - are you talking bones or flesh when you say wide hips?

Chandon - yes wide hips = a feature of sexual dimorphism, therefore attractive.

VitoCorleone · 09/07/2013 12:21

Size 8. I weigh 8 stone. Im 5'2"

Thighs are 18" around the widest point.

2much2young · 09/07/2013 12:26

ah just realised something men are usually in trousers and short aren't they so even if they did have thighs with the potential to chaf the material would always protect them

OP posts:
missbopeep · 09/07/2013 12:39

I am 5' 3, weigh just under 8 stone and my thighs are 19 inches. I am a size 8-10.

throckenholt · 09/07/2013 12:47

yep men usually wear trousers - but close observation (I think I did it discreetly though !) showed that even so, their legs rarely rubbed. Grin

I guess it is anatomy - the ball joint where the leg fits the pelvis tends to push the leg further out in men - hence no rubbing. I wonder why ? I wonder if it is child bearing or some other reason ?

throckenholt · 09/07/2013 12:49

More questions - if most women have thigh chafing regardless of their size, why is it almost taboo to talk about ? Why aren't there lots of products out there for reducing it ? Is it because most designers of products are men and so therefore don't see a need ?

WildThongsHeartString · 09/07/2013 12:50

I'm not telling
Blush Blush Blush

Keztrel · 09/07/2013 13:02

Men usually have more muscular, toned thighs than women (the gits) so I think unless they are really overweight generally their thighs don't rub, as they don't have all the lovely wobbly inner thigh fat Hmm My DH is quite a bit fatter than me yet still has solid footballer thighs, whereas mine are wibbly Grin

GobblersKnob · 09/07/2013 13:12

Am 5'10" 12 ish and thighs are 25". They touch and I can feel the against each other when I walk iyswim, but they have never rubbed in any way that causes me discomfort, which I think is something else.

Amazinggg · 09/07/2013 13:25

This thread is weirdly fascinating! I'm a pear shaped size 10 and mine are about 21 inches. Like someone above, I always thought my bum was massive - hips measure 38 inches. No idea if that's proportionate or not, my stats are 33-27-38 apparently.

Disclaimer - these measurements might be totally off since I used a rigid measurer tape thingy, with clothes on. In fact my thighs are probably 16" and my bum 24" Grin

2much2young · 09/07/2013 13:52

anyone else always want to take a tape measure to undressed shop window mannequins and see what they come out at? They always look tiny!

OP posts:
missbopeep · 09/07/2013 13:55

Bugger the anatomy- thigh rub is just fat.

women's pelvises are different and this is why many non-athlete women look knock kneed, or have a 'flappy' running style- knees together and calves and ankles flick out. I pass such a female jogger almost daily.

But that's not the cause of thigh fat. It's just fat.

badguider · 09/07/2013 14:26

throckenholt - missbopeep above has just answered your question for you, it's because people like her will tell anybody whose legs rub that they're 'just too fat' even if they are a size 8 with a borderline 'underweight' BMI.
That's certainly what made me ashamed and convinced I was fat through my teens when I was that underweight bmi girl. Angry
