... please tell me what size you are and what your thigh circumference is (at it's biggest part).

I am a size 14 but still my thighs rub together and in this heat it's a total pain (literally). How much further do I need to slim down to stop this?! Always been chunky of thigh but surely it's not impossible for me? Currently at 26cm Blush each! what should I be aiming for? 25? 24? 22? 21?

HELLO-OH is there anybody in there???
I was quoting you to you (that's I to you) the POINT is that you personally don't know anyone who's thighs rub together who couldn't do with losing weight BUT PEOPLE HERE - admittedly people YOU don't know personally say they have thigh rubbers but are (I think we all agree) not overweight

Ha!

Maybe toning up is what would help rather than losing weight? I'm the same weight I was years ago but much more toned now - used to get chub rub and now don't.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I discovered Lanacane anti-chafing gel for just this problem and it is fantastic.

How strange, I have experienced thigh rubbage but only when I was a size 14.........

Strange? What's so strange about the fact that we all have different body shapes? Even if we are a healthy weight?

Report
LadyIsabellaWrotham · 10/07/2013 18:51

It's strange because not being able to walk a couple of miles without pain or special equipment (and in evolutionary terms trousers count as special equipment) is a ridiculous design flaw. Everybody has different body shapes but you'd expect them all to basically work. I guess in a state of nature you just build up calluses - lovely.

Mind you I assume most women have problems sprinting without additional support too. It's a feeble bit of design all round IMO.

If we are talking about evoluntionary design, we are badly designed. You only have to see a woman giving birth to realise that.

I don't consider trousers 'special equipment'. Clothes have been around in cold climates for a long time.

I'm not too sure if you are really aware of the differences between people. Of course many people are able to sprint without much problem. That is after all how evolution works - a huge gene pool always increasing in size.

I have seen many people in my profession, of many different body shapes, and believe me, it's not always the overweight people who are the most unhealthy.

Report
kelda · 10/07/2013 19:03

And another point - then ability to invent that 'special equipment' to cope with those design flaws is evolution.

Oh I know, it's just one of the many many ways in which the human body is imperfect, I was bemoaning the ludicrous unfitness for purpose of my so-called "child-bearing hips" upthread. But it's a new one on me, hence surprising.

ladyisabella indeed sprinting is most problematic for women, particularly d'un certain age.

I sprinted in the mums race at DCs Sports Day yesterday and the experience was very very, er.....strange.

Regarding being a size 14, thighs rubbing and it all being strange, it just seems like a strange coincidence , that's all.

I think the answer depends upon how tall you are

My thighs measure 42cm which I am told is 16.5 inches. I am a size 10-12 in any shop. But I am tall 5' 11" , BMI in the normal range (towards the low end) and my thighs have never ever rubbed together.

42 cm thighs? My calves (which are mostly muscle, honest) are 38cm! Grin

When I was a 6 stone 10lb size 6 @ 5 foot 2" my thighs rubbed, probably due to my 32" hips. I am now size 10 bottom 1/2 and they still rub. Conclusion - if you have slim hips in proportion to height your thighs will rub - if you are overweight then this will make it worse.

I think people store fat in different areas - for me it's the inner thighs for others it's the outer and no rubbing for those lucky sods

I am a size 10-12, thighs are 19 1/2 inches and they touch, I could do with losing 2 stone tbh though.

They did the same when I was 15-18 and between 6st and below 7st and a size 6 and spent most days in the gym. It's definitely to do with body shape unfortunately.

Anyone else get the problem with their shorts riding up on the inside? If anyone knows a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh god yes! Shorts riding up on the inside - bane of my summer life. Hence why I've stopped wearing them!

This thread has actually cheered me up somewhat. Thought it was just me with freakishly touching legs! Grin

allmycats - exactly. Its the angle of your thighbones - which depends on both their length and the width of your hips - plus the amount and firmness of the padding between them.

We could devise an equation ... if there are enough of us to provide the data we could probably win an Ignobel prize for this, you know! Grin

I have another observation to throw in the pot - flat feet!

I have them and have worn my orthotics (tres chic no?) today for the first time in a few weeks as I've been wearing flip flops/sandals (and now paying for it Sad). These lift my arches to how they should be and I noticed today that this pulls my legs up and out a little which gives less rubbage! Maybe it's just my anatomy but it would be interesting to see if anyone else with thigh rub is flat footed - particularly the more slender among us where thigh rub is more down to body shape than extra fleshy bits.
