Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

Wilting So pleased you love it! It is gorgeous isn't it.

Toys Your samples went off first class in the post this morning. I didn't half get a quizzing from the bloke about what the perfume was packaged in, how much there was, e.t.c. e.t.c. Total pain these restrictions.

And in other, non perfume related news, I got a tax rebate cheque through the post this morning. A totally unexpected £600.00! Yay and double yay!

ToysRLuv · 09/08/2013 15:32

I'm still not declaring the decants and samples I'm sending, as they're not in their "original retain packaging", which is what they require, I guess? What did they say to your samples Fuckit? Did you have to pay over the odds? I'm scared that every counter person is going to have their own interpretation of the stupid rules..

I will declare any FB's, though. But, how are they to know whether anything is in it's "original" retail packaging, anyway?

ToysRLuv · 09/08/2013 15:33

And congrats on the tax rebate!

Fuckitthatlldo · 09/08/2013 16:28

He did ask whether they were in their original packaging, and I said, "Well, they're samples, so they didn't really have any original packaging as such". He seemed to accept that and then just wanted to ensure that they were well wrapped up and protected.

He specifically asked me when I gave him the parcel to weigh, what was in it, so I guess maybe post office staff are being trained to be more vigilant.

He said there couldn't be more than four separate perfume products in one package and that there couldn't be more than a certain amount of mls all together as well, but I forget how many that was now.

The other week though, I got a sample package from the Perfumed Court and that had about ten samples in it!

ToysRLuv · 09/08/2013 16:38

I think retailers have different rules to private people. I think the ml limit might be something like 200 ml, not sure, though.

Ugh.. my head hurts thinking about these things.

wiltingfast · 09/08/2013 21:18

Ha ha Grin thanks toys.

My bloomin tauer pack is poisoning my sample box Shock

ToysRLuv · 09/08/2013 21:25

Hehee.. The Tauers need their own hermetically sealed bio-hazard container Grin

ToysRLuv · 10/08/2013 11:59

Thanks, Fuckit! Your superbly packaged samples arrived today (I now feel self-conscious about the shitty, recycled packaging I used Blush )..

Midnight Oud is quite nice. Makes me think of the Montales, but it's not quite as medicinal. Too bad I can't really get anything apart from the Oud until drydown, which is wonderful, but faint..

Musc Maori is very nice too. Cocoa butter.. mmm..

Will try more stuff tomorrow.

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/08/2013 20:29

Blimey - they made it quickly! Cool, glad they arrived ok. Yep, that oud note is very distinctive isn't it. I recognised it immediately from the Montales I'd sampled too.

wiltingfast · 11/08/2013 10:59

Just saw your £600 windfall fuckit! Don't spend it all on FBs Grin

SOTD Heure Exquise annick goutal, this is just gorgeous green flowers like stcking your nose in the most heavenly bouquet, v feminine but I don't mind. Unfortunately it's also incredibly fleeting even when layered with the dry oil I got as a freebie with the sample. I can still smell it but only v close to the skin. A FB of this would last me no time at all!

Heavenly though for that first 30m or so...

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/08/2013 13:52

I had a quick squirt of Baiser Vole yesterday in Sephora. I quite liked it. Wanted to buy DD1 a bottle of Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose for her birthday, but waiting for a better special offer, as it's not cheap!

Fuckitthatlldo · 12/08/2013 21:13

Yay Wilting your package arrived today! Thank you so much. I have Safran Troublant on one hand and Lonestar Memories on the other at the mo.

OneLittleLady · 12/08/2013 21:16

Heads up ladies, L'Artisan perfumes are up to 52% off on Brand Alley if anyone's interested

ToysRLuv · 12/08/2013 21:25

Ahem! It was ME, Fuckit! Grin Glad you like them.. Smile I bet lonestar is completely overwhelming your senses and you can't smell safran troublant at all Grin

ToysRLuv · 12/08/2013 21:26

Thanks OLL!

Fuckitthatlldo · 12/08/2013 22:10

Gah! Sorry Toys Blush. Thankyou for my package. You're right - I can't smell Safran Troublant at all - it's very sheer no? Can defo smell the birch tar in Lonestar though. Blimey.

Tell you what though, I love the 1826 by Histoires de parfums. Woody musk. Just lovely.

ToysRLuv · 12/08/2013 22:36

Safran Troublant is very light. You need lots of it to really smell it. It is lovely, though!

Lonestar is a bit of a at home having a weird day fragrance. Not to be worn on a first date or in a job interview, I reckon.. Grin

1826 is nice! Glad you like it..

From what you sent me, Mona di Orio's Vanille is quite nice, but reminds me a lot of the L'Artisan Vanilla, which I found truly repulsive. Hmm.. I would have liked a touch more sweetness and booziness.

Wazamba is basically very similar to Fille En Aiguilles. Very nice pine incense.

Bought CDG Stephen Jones from e-bay! Eek! Looking forward to sampling that ("violets hit by a meteorite" as per description).

wiltingfast · 12/08/2013 22:53

Heh heh heh Grin. Glad that confusion was sorted out!

Had a spritz of Tom Forde ombre de hyacinth, just lovely, gorgeous green earthy hyacinth. Good lasting power too. Would love a sample of this!

FrugalFashionista · 13/08/2013 17:13

Rainy day, have been wearing the ultimate vanilla, Guerlain's Spiritueuse Double Vanille all day long.

Now enjoying Douce Amere by Uncle Sergey.

OneLittleLady · 13/08/2013 17:15

Sounds good Frugal I bet DP would love that, he loves anything vanilla based on me

ToysRLuv · 14/08/2013 14:05

SOTD: Hermes - Un Jardin Sur Le Toit. The more I wear this, the more I love it. It manages to be a beautiful floral without being stuffy, cheesy or uber feminine. I've only got a mini ATM, but shoud get a FB, really. Not that I will EVER use up all my perfumes. I really think I might be reaching capacity..

OneLittleLady · 14/08/2013 14:09

SOTD is Nina - Nina Ricci. It's ALL cedar on me. I get very little of the talked about sweetness and citrus, just a big blast of cedar. I love it

ToysRLuv · 15/08/2013 10:14

SOTD: Stephen Jones. Ok. not quite as avant garde as I thought it would be.. powdery, aldehydic in an almost incensey way, violets. Nice enough. Looking forward to seeing if it develops.

wiltingfast · 15/08/2013 13:11

SOTD is chancel no 19 but really i shouldn't have bothered because I am dying with a cold :(

Toys I think I really like jardin sur le toit, need a big sample to really know. I've only ever managed a spritz in HoF and that's never completely satisfactory somehow. Where did you get you mini? I tried the Hermes concession in BTs here but all I managed to score were some samples of pamplemousse rose which is only ok to be honest. A pretty scent, just not something I want to wear at all. Have four 2ml samples if anyone wants them!

ToysRLuv · 15/08/2013 13:31

Wilting: I got my mini from e-bay (surprise surprise)..
