Hello everyone. Have been away for a bit so have a lot of catching up to do!
Have received quite a lot of samples recently - was a little disappointed by the Montale musks and ouds. I'd be interested to know if they have a base they use for all their perfumes as they all seem to have a similar whiff in the beginning. Liked Black Aoud once it settled down and you could smell the rose. And the Chocolate Greedy is fun, but a little sickly sweet to really wear much in real life.
I enjoyed Ambre Precieux by Maitre de Gantier very much - a really deep, expensive smelling amber. Better than Ambre Sultan in my subjective opinion. Well worth a full bottle purchase.
But the sample I loved the most was Musc Koublai Khan by Serge Lutens. After reading various reviews describing it as 'vile', 'fecal', and smelling of 'ball sweat', of course I had to try it
And I think it smells fantastic. A really sexy, animalic, slightly dirty smelling musk. Which is what musk should smell like as far as I'm concerned. Clean white musks always seem a kind of contradiction in terms I reckon, although they can be lovely in their way. But Musc Koublai Khan is definitely a perfume that separates the women from the girls. I've got a full bottle on my birthday list.
