Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

Wilting I'd personally wear it anywhere - but one definitely needs to be feeling confident to pull it off I think. It's a head turner for sure and I can imagine collecting a following of stray, salivating dogs before the day was out Grin

It does smell dirty. Some really base human odours going on underneath that sweet muskyness. Wholesome it isn't. If perfumes came with age classifications, this one would be an x-rated 18 for sure. Definitely a try before you buy - lots of people seem to find it obscene.

Would be really interested to hear what Frugal thinks of it.

Hello, I haven't been for a while. Great to catch up. I also heart CheapSmells. They are brilliant. The free postage usually takes about 6 days from their Channel Islands base to the UK and they use a courier rather than Royal Mail.

They feed my habit something terrible. All these sales!

wiltingfast · 12/07/2013 09:35

Great start to the day, not only did an old bid on gucci envy come through for me but my cheapsmells purchases turned up! Yay!

Love the Ma Griffe box, both it and the cabochard ambre smell gorgeous out of the bottle, am currently smothered in Sunflowers (lotion AND perfume) so better leave it awhile before testing on skin... Thank crunchie it's the weekend Grin

I'll have to try fuckit

CointreauVersial · 12/07/2013 12:44

Ah Wilting, you should have said you liked Gucci Envy. I have a secret supply. Wink

Today I'm trying Mystery Sample No. 2. Ohhhhh, it's lovely. Quite an ethereal thing, but I keep getting little wafts. Haven't a scooby what it is, though.

ToysRLuv · 12/07/2013 13:02

Glad you like it, Cointreau!

Sotd: PdR- Twill Rose and Rose d'Homme (thanks Fuzzy!). I really like them both. Especially the latter, which, funnily enough, is not really rosy at all!

wiltingfast · 12/07/2013 13:42

Ah Cointreau, it was a bit of an impulse buy, my mother used to have it and I liked it, so i put in a bid aaaages ago. Thought it was a dead listing. A 3/4 full bottle I just hope it's ok. Seller says it is so fingers crossed.

Have tried out the ma griffe, really like it, v woody floral on me. Then turns fresh, then ah disappears. I can just about smell it if I stick my nose in the crook of my arm. Lovely bottle though. I'm a bit of a sucker for nice bottles Blush

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 12/07/2013 13:46

On my perfume blog (which is now on the Mumsnet Bloggers Network) I have a dashboard of search terms that have led people to my site. Every single day someone somewhere in the world is asking about Gucci Envy. I genuinely don't understand why they won't bring it back.

I wrote to Gucci and they said they are making lots of fragrances in the hope that customers will find one they like.

I have found one I like. I want to buy it, but they won't make it any more! Crazy.

wiltingfast · 12/07/2013 13:48

Idiots. Grin

ToysRLuv · 12/07/2013 13:50

Chocs: They might, eventually. Rochas and YSL have brought back oldies as specials - albeit reformulated.

wiltingfast · 12/07/2013 13:51

Speaking of idiots, cheapsmells doesn't deliver perfume to Ireland any more why o why

I probably got the last delivery out of there!

That's why I couldn't see any perfume the other day...

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 12/07/2013 22:39

Toys- yes Balmain are rumoured to be doing similar stuff. They will relaunch classics if there is enough interest. They are sensible nice people. Not like Gucci.

wiltingfast · 14/07/2013 14:58

Ok, so lady in chanel boutique was extremely nice to me! She gave me a sample of:-

Bel respiro
Cuir de russie
2 of coromandel
28 la pausa
Also
Sycomore and
Eau do cologne, both for dh Grin

2ml each, fantastic!

Wore cuir de russie yesterday evening to go out and it was wonderful, so sexy and sophisticated yet with a subtle skin sweetness underneath, I felt amazing wearing it. Dh thought it was gorgeous too.

ToysRLuv · 14/07/2013 15:55

Wow - that is extremely generous!

I wonder if we have a Chanel boutique here.. Have never even stepped inside the Harvey Nicks, because I think I always look too scruffy (and have a grumpy, occasionally destructive, DS attached to me).

SOTD: Womanity. Grin One spray and I can stun small animals..

Fuckitthatlldo · 14/07/2013 16:40

Oooh Wilting how lovely.

I can recommend the Coromandel, it's gorgeous.

Have never tried the Cuir de Russie. Is that the leather one?

wiltingfast · 14/07/2013 21:46

Yes it is, but the leather is very soft on me, I'd say if you sniffed it unknown you might not notice it was leather, (unless you were a perfumista obv!). Dh certainly didn't twig it. Very VERY wearable, liked it much more than I expected.

Can't wait to try the rest Grin

CointreauVersial · 14/07/2013 22:34

Lucky you, Wilting - some lovely ones there.

Cuir de Russie is the one I don't like, however. It's not the worst, but it smelled just like Imperial Leather soap on me.

But I adore Coromandel, Sycomore and Bel Respiro.

Fuzzybirds · 15/07/2013 21:24

Cointreau sending my apologies again for the delay on mystery sample No.5- the PIL have now gone away for a week and despite my asking three times for them to send it, they clearly haven't! Rather annoyed as if the shoe were on the other foot, they would expect me to do them a similar favour ASAP. Anyway, they will be back by the weekend so I will ask them again!

I'm finding this heat rather difficult for perfume. It seems to slide off in the same way as make-up. Today I wore Badgley Mischka, which reminds me of a fruitier, less full on Coco Mademoiselle. I don't think it's as amazing as Tania Sanchez makes out but still works really well as a casual day scent.

wiltingfast · 17/07/2013 12:04

All gone very quiet on the perfume thread! Hope everyone is out enjoying the sunshine :)

I'm having a v pleasant day with sycomore. Didn't like it at first, felt incredibly dry and austere, all I could really smell was vetiver though there was a sort of lifting sense at the outset which then faded.

It's a very elusive scent on me, if I try to smell it on my arm, I'd swear it was gone but when i move around I constantly get very pleasant refreshing wafts of something really rather nice. There's something v sweet and faint underneath the dryness now. I guess it must be the violet but it is so subtle on me I can't really tell. Mostly, it just doesn't seem so dry anymore.

Plain and understated and elusive, that gentle sweetness keeps it from being too severe, it's a nice change from all those perfumes that mercilessly dry down to something floral!

OneLittleLady · 17/07/2013 12:11

SOTD is Signor Ricci by Nina Ricci. I know it's meant to be for men but it's so light and refreshing. Lots of big citrus notes, lovely on a hot day

pocketandsweet · 17/07/2013 12:28

I'm wearing my Signoricci too. I love it. Thanks again. I haven't been around much as Im swamped trying to get house sorted to move country in less than a month.

OneLittleLady · 17/07/2013 12:36

You're very welcome pocket Smile I'm glad you're enjoying it

pocketandsweet · 17/07/2013 13:15

onelittlelady Would you be interested in a fb of Y by Yves St Laurent, a fb of Korres white tea, bergamot, freesia and a small sample of Caldey Island Gorse? Any or all of above? I'm trying to be realistic and edit out the things in my perfume stash that I don't really wear.

OneLittleLady · 17/07/2013 13:19

I would love them if you are sure? Thanks

pocketandsweet · 17/07/2013 13:24

Yes. Definitely. if you don't like them pass them along. I had a memory of Y and it didn't match the reality ( I bought it off ebay). The Korres was a present from husband and is pretty enough but a bit meh so I never wear it. The gorse was just a wild hunch but too honey-ish. I will get them packaged up and out to you in the next few days.

I really love the Signoricci. it is like a gin and tonic to me. So fresh. I really appreciate that you made the effort to get me some.

OneLittleLady · 17/07/2013 13:25

Whatever I don't like, I will pass on Smile I'm happy that you like it, it really was no bother but it's nice to know you appreciate it Smile
