Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 03/07/2013 00:19

All quiet on the fragrance thread today......

I have aquired a sample of L'Occitane Eau des Baux (which I adore on myself), and landed a squirt on DH. He wasn't sure (philistine). He has run short of supplies, so I might have to let him test some of my precious stash to find something he wants a FB of.

I don't want to share some of them, though. Grin

SOTD was La Perla.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 03/07/2013 10:00

SOTD Tauer Lys Du Desert. So far so good.

Fuzzybirds · 03/07/2013 10:40

I've received the mystery samples today, thank you Toys!

I'm wearing sample No.1 and it's utterly gorgeous. I won't try and describe it as don't want to spoil it for the others, but I love it and can't wait to find out what it is. Has made my day somewhat more bearable after the DC behaved hideously in Tesco this morning!

Cointreau I love Eau Des Baux, it's on my birthday list. I've also had a mini of Immortelle de Corse arrive this morning, which I've wanted to try for ages. Had a little sniff and it's very sweet and honey-like but lovely.

ToysRLuv · 03/07/2013 12:31

Fuzzy: It is lovely isn't it? Smile Let me know when you want me to tell you, and I'll PM you Wink.

SOTD: Tried on LB Mistero di Roma on one hand and Molinard Violette on the other. Mistero is grapefuit with vanilla and woods. Violette is straight up Parma Violets. Nice, but nothing to rave about.

CointreauVersial · 03/07/2013 12:51

SOTD is Guerlain Apres L'Ondee. I just felt in that kind of mood.

Ooh, I love Fleur Oriental (and have a soft spot for Old Spice too). I wore it at a garden party a couple of weeks ago, and it was perfect. The only thing I don't like is the name - it sounds a bit "cheap and nasty" and doesn't really sell the fragrance imho.

LinusDKD · 03/07/2013 20:51

Hi!

I was hoping you could help me find a new perfume to wear in summer.

I don't know much about perfume, I just know what I like when I smell a scent, and I seem to veer towards floral scents.

In winter I wear Serge Lutens 'Fleurs d'Oranger' and in summer Serge Lutens 'A la Nuit' and Chanel 'Cristalle'.

I recently bought Tom Ford 'Neroli Portofino' but as DH pinched it I am looking for a new perfume. Frugalfashionista suggested some similar perfumes on another thread (Guerlain and Dior) but neither grabbed me like the Tom Ford one.

I have tried Serge Lutens 'La Fille de Berlin' (I see a trend here Wink ) and I love it but it is more of a wintry scent to me so I might buy it later on in the year.

I have also tried Dior 'Diorissimo' and I love the Lily of the Valley, but it feels a bit one dimensional to me, if that makes sense.

TF has some other nice perfumes (Jonquille de Nuit, Jasmin Rouge) but so far they have not completely bowled me over, and at that price they really should.

Jo Malone perfumes don't seem to last on me and are usually a bit too fruity, but maybe she has brought out some new ones recently that I don't know of.

I hope I don't sound too fussy and thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Fuzzybirds · 04/07/2013 10:56

Linus I haven't tried many Lutens scents so not sure if I can be of any help, I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will be along soon though!

Trying mystery sample no.2 today, I don't love this one as much as yesterday's (which I guessed totally wrong, but it was a very nice surprise!) today's is very nice but not one of my favourite types of perfume.

ToysRLuv · 04/07/2013 21:05

Linus: I'm no expert in florals, but I assume you have tried Chanel no 19? Also, have you tried Alien by Thierry Mugler? 24 Faubourg by Hermes? L'Instant de Guerlain? Bvlgari Jasmin Noir? Narciso Rodriguez For Her?

SOTD: Molinard Violette. Feel very girly - like I've been given a glittery powder sugar coating Grin

MelanieCheeks · 04/07/2013 21:15

Just back from a trip to France, where I treated myself to a bottle of annick goutal s ninfeo mio. Wow I love this, smokey and woody, very distinctive.

CointreauVersial · 04/07/2013 21:35

Envy Melanie, lucky you. I adore Ninfeo Mio, gotta love those sun-drenched figs.

LinusDKD · 05/07/2013 06:15

Thanks Toys! I will try those today.

Fuzzybirds · 05/07/2013 10:05

Sample No.3 today, I love this one Toys! Perfect for a day when it feels like summer has finally arrived.

Haven't tried Ninfeo Mio yet, but it sounds wonderful!

ToysRLuv · 05/07/2013 11:34

Fuzzy: Glad to hear you like it!

Linus: Hopefully you'll find something you like!

SOTD: Kiss me tender and Battito d'Ali from batch of samples which arrived from Neroli today. Yay! Kiss me Tender is very similar to my Comptoir stuff - pleasant, and Battito is a cross between Incense Avignon and Holygrace - not so pleasant.

thecatfromjapan · 05/07/2013 13:22

Linus, have you tried the Hermes "Jardins ..." series? They are florals but with a little complexity.

thecatfromjapan · 05/07/2013 13:24

You might also want to try the Chanel "Exclusifs". I can't quite remember but I think "Jersey", or "Beige" or even both might be interesting.

wiltingfast · 05/07/2013 14:17

So excited, finally made a selection on Surrender to Chance:-

Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio EDT

Frederic Malle L'Eau d'Hiver

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune

Guerlain Chamade EDT

Guerlain Vol de Nuit EDT - Vintage

Parfums de Nicolai Le Temps D'Une Fete

Can't WAIT for my parcel!

That aside I unfortunately let a man spray me yesterday with Sundance, a Memo perfume. It is vile. Flat tuberose on my wrist all night and all day today, cannot gt the damn thing off, grrr. Why o why did I let him do it?

Linus, I'm not that familar with Lutens I'm afraid (have only tried chergui so far) so no help. Have you tried looking at www.fragrantica.com? You can type in the name of your perfume and it will give you a list of other perfumes other people have liked that like your perfume. It is quite useful.

LinusDKD · 05/07/2013 18:39

Thanks thecat and wilting! You have given me loads of ideas of new perfumes to try.

FrugalFashionista · 06/07/2013 12:59

Wilting I've tried Lalibela by Memo (loved the name, would love to travel there one day), it was disgusting.

Traveling, working, busy: wearing perfumes as an afterthought, sticking mostly to easy-to-wear favorites (AA Nerolia Bianca, Dries van Noten, Ch 5 EDP).

But inspired by y'all, will spritz on some Ninfeo Mio - am contemplating a full bottle, really love it.

No new purchases. I have so many perfumes already - I actually keep a few perfume bottles in my 2nd home: Eau Noire by Dior, Zagorsk and Avignon by CdG, and a few others

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/07/2013 09:58

Linus, have you tried Lutens' L'Eau Froide? I love it, but unfortunately so do my cats Hmm, who get overly affectionate, yowly and licky when I wear it.

LinusDKD · 07/07/2013 14:59

Ooh, I will try that! Thanks Mrs

I tried Gris Clair yesterday and I liked it but I need to go back and try it on my skin to see how it evolves.

CointreauVersial · 07/07/2013 22:35

A perfect day for Herba Fresca. I really didn't want anything heavier today.

Fuzzybirds · 08/07/2013 11:07

Been away for the weekend but took my mystery samples along- No.4 and No.5 both gorgeous. Thanks again, Toys- I'll send them along to Cointreau ASAP!

Also got the chance for a fair bit of sniffing on Saturday- tried this year's Bronze Goddess and Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, which is beautiful. Also Un Jardin sur le Mediteranee, as I was interested in the tomato stem element and a few Miller Harris ones- Fleur du Sel, which I found quite peppery and masculine and L'Air de Rien, which I found quite surprising and liked a lot.

A bit later on tried a few L'Occitane ones- Vanille & Narcisse and Jasmin & Bergamote, both very nice but I prefer their older ones. I tried Eau d'Iparie and Ambre on paper and am after FBs now... Oh and picked up a bottle of The Body Shop's Amber Oud in the sale for £6, very good for the price and will make a good day to day scent come Autumn. I think my nose needs a rest now!

SOTD is Eau de Cartier, light and refreshing Smile

wiltingfast · 08/07/2013 13:05

Ah, smothered myself in Ninfeo Mio yesterday in HoF and wafted about in it all day. So looking forward to the 5ml sample Grin.

Anyone ever try Sel de Vetiver by The Different Company?
