Hope you find your way back to us Dona!

I have been lurking so this is my first go at being stylish. These are my wish-list items from Matches:

I like these courdroy legging although not in my size but might be good for someone else.

Also love this sequin top but my norks would look gargantum.

This lace top is beautiful

I keep picking Anglomania stuff, really like the simplicity of this top

This http://www.matchesfashion.com/product/133146 black sleevless top is lovely too

A plain grey top but I like the sleeve detail sleeve detail

I think this would work well with jeans

too frumpy?

I love this orange Maxmara top

I need to stop. This could become addictive, I haven't actually bought any of this, just window shopping but I don't recall the last time I saw so many things I like.

AmberNectarine · 11/01/2013 22:55

Samnella I bought and returned the sequin top - made me look like a rectangle. Also tried those cords in the pink - very, very low rise. As in just preserving my modesty!!

libertychick · 11/01/2013 22:56

Gah - just lost a post - how does that happen?
Florence I feel your pain with workwear - I work in NHS so a bit like govt jobs, it's not a suits environment but casual a no-no and it's easy just to stick to the same formula that works for you. And if you have contact with the public you have to be especially careful as you have to look professional but not intimidating. I agree with Dona that grey is more adaptable than black for adding in some colour and I always opt for a new dress when I get bored. Don't get suits unless you love them and they work on you as actually they are quite restricting. What about trying a blouse with your pencil skirt or getting camel skirt or trousers to try with soft white/cream top and your black jacket?

Decameron those sunnies are great - impressed with your positivity that the sun will come out someday in January!

Shop get you matching nails to Bowies Grin

Marsha really envious that you can wear yellow - such a great colour.

libertychick · 11/01/2013 23:01

Be very careful Samnella it starts with lurking, then you post a few links, then next thing you have spent £400+ in an hour and you are destined to spend a weekend desperate for the stuff to arrive while also figuring out how to justify it all to DH or maybe that's just me Grin

Samnella · 11/01/2013 23:31

I can imagine liberty Grin. I am just at the wish list stage whilst I complete my diet.

That' s a shame Amber I had images of me floating about in the trousers and sequin top looking all stylish and gorgeous when in fact I will could end up looking square-shaped with my bum poking out [grin Grin. Illusion shattered.

MarshaBrady · 12/01/2013 06:58

Dauphin good to hear your dad is doing well, hope the op is all ok. I'd love to do up a house (and not live in it) how exciting.

Samnella lovely links. The lace is really pretty. I loved the look of the Marant cords too, and in raspberry but they do look very low.

Am pondering the top. Am seeing someone about a project next week and it would be perfect to wear in non toddler environment but until I know what it is, or if definite, am hesitating. Probably be gone by then, only problem.

Actually I might go in and have a look.

MarshaBrady · 12/01/2013 07:00

Decam the sunnies are gorgeous. Love the colour!

Liberty and Dona good work tips.

Emo76 · 12/01/2013 07:44

hello

oh marsha your Celine in raspberry would be DIVINE (I may be confusing threads here but I definitely saw somewhere you were considering!)

Florence I know what you mean about work wear especially jackets. Unfortunately I don't have much advice though I have found long or 3/4 length sleeved smart dresses negate the need for a jacket but I still feel "together" when I wear. Hobbs are good for those and have a decent sale on.

J Crew order arrived really quickly! I am pleased with all I ordered especially this jumper which is a great colour pop and lovely and warm.

Girls want breakfast, back later!

MarshaBrady · 12/01/2013 08:13

Love that jumper Emo! Gorgeous colour (and good discount).

Thanks! Ah really would like it now. I can't work out if they do sales, probably not, I might have rung Selfridges, HN etc but no pick up. I don't mind if not but I don't want it to disappear before I get the chance to buy.

For SS would really like
Celine raspberry
Lanvin in a neutral- say rose or blush
Something floral, pretty
Something off-white

Always do a recce at beginning of season. May be a bit early, but have to go to JL anyway.

Decameron · 12/01/2013 09:58

The sunglasses may not get worn for a while but good to have them waiting!

I like your list, Samnella (and yours, Marsha). I also tried on the cords and they were way too low.

Nice jumper, Emo.

Dauphin, your poor father, that's rough for him and you all. We are well thanks, still in London. DD1 is enjoying reception and DD2 is 19 months old today and running around in a pink princess dress!

MarshaBrady · 12/01/2013 18:12

Blinking raspberry wasn't in Selfridges. They've moved Celine upstairs and only a few bags. Ach. Sure I saw it in HN.

Am pleased to say the white stiletto is here for SS13. I imagine enough time has passed for everyone to recoup from last time!

MarshaBrady · 12/01/2013 18:25

Not that I wore them last time, but I remember my aunt did. They were such a thing.

florenceuk · 12/01/2013 19:56

thanks for all the advice. I did try on a very menswear inspired suit in the Kooples but not sure it was sufficiently versatile to solve my workwear problems (perhaps too much like a tuxedo). Good to see others have similar issues! add to this the fact that I am short and apple-shaped, with tiny feet so shoes always a struggle. tbh workwear where I am is very variable (the young uns wear VERY casual wear while the older women wear what look like variations on M&S per una).

shopafrolic · 12/01/2013 20:07

Unfortunately white isn't one of my 'colours' Marsha so I won't be able to go there. Shame......

DonaAna · 12/01/2013 20:15

Florence of course you can wear black if you are a Winter. There was a how to wear dark winter colors in a non-dull way thread here recently - lots of good ideas and advice there. Combine with something in an icy pastel/nude tone (just a scarf or a little accent) to freshen up the look?

I get to wear whatever I want to work (within reason), so am not the best source of advice. I've always found bright red a terrific workwear color - warm, energetic, memorable and attention-getting, and one of my favorite colors to boot.. If you are not limited to black/gray/navy, jewel tones can be good too.

DonaAna · 13/01/2013 09:04

Am really enjoying playing with my eye shadows.
I have deep-set eyes of nondescript color (gray/green).
Smoky eyes look like bruising on me (tried the look yesterday, result horrific), but simply defining the outer corner and spreading light shades on the lid is miraculous. Lighter shades open up my eyes and change my eye color to steely blue or clear green.
I enjoy ready-made palettes because they encourage me to combine shades I wouldn't normally wear. Right now, enjoying Chanel Murano: soft green gray to emphasize the outer corners and a mixture of very pale mint and pink on the lids. Sounds crazy, but the colors are very subtle and just add light and some definition.
My best eyeliner colors are silver gray and pale platinum taupe. I believed in black and dark espresso brown for a long time but sadly dark liner makes me look tired and accentuated dark under-eyes.

Sorry about the self-centric post. I always found e/s difficult but am finally learning a little...

Emo I love 3/4 sleeved too. Good luck with the raspberry hunt Marsha! Sounds lovely, hope you'll find it! I have a small, neglected rasperry MJ cross-body somewhere, need to wear it more!

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2013 09:17

That sounds gorgeous Dona! (your post are lovely to read btw)

Shop I know! It's something about the trashiness of them, mixed with high end that I find intriguing. Also if they can be redone with a clean slate and crisp new feel.

But I might be alone with that!

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2013 09:18

god ! overboard. Apols. Still feeling too energetic in the mornings, probably shows.

DonaAna · 13/01/2013 17:10

Interminable rainy day spent indoors.

Normally we go out and explore on Sundays, but today there were few alternatives. So I did something I really rarely do these days - cooked something new. I braised some short ribs in gewürztraminer with Savoy cabbage. Hard to believe but this slavic-sounding dish is as Roman as it gets (well, maybe the wine was wrong). It was incredibly delicious and made me wonder why I don't try new dishes more often. Now sitting and waiting to get a batch of muffins for DD1's school lunches out of the oven.

No style news. If this weather continues, I'll be very fat very soon Grin

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2013 17:35

Mmm yummy.

I met with a good friend and chatted while six children ran riot. Was really nice.

No style news either. Except zero raspberry Celine in HN (I called). Argh might be my thing, trying to find it.

DonaAna · 13/01/2013 17:45

Hope you'll locate yours Marsha! It really would be perfect for SS...

Reading NY Times Style section (clearly am running out of things to do - should actually go to get some groceries, but don't want to get hit by a lightning). They are featuring an US-based shopping site, Halsbrook.com, for women over 40.

I must have been born old but so many things there really appeal to me - lovely bold colors and super-simple, streamlined shapes.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2013 18:01

Oh yes that's good for your style, not old though, even if that's what she's doing. Although a good idea can be lots of £ there. But younger people could really look good in it.

And thanks! It will bug me til I do. They have a burgundy but not quite the same.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2013 18:31

I can see you in the Paule Ka coat, Anya Cole bolero.

Can all look lovely/cute. Just happened to see this page as pinning.

FritziGreenEyes · 14/01/2013 13:12

I'm dying to get out of cashmere and thermal tights. No matter how much people rave about the beauty of snow etc, I hate, hate, hate the cold.

I'm in love with this dress. Think I want something citrus for spring.

Maybe I should try and experiment with eyeshadow. I'm hopeless at doing eye make-up.

MarshaBrady · 14/01/2013 13:59

Fritzi that is gorgeous.

I love Saloni, especially that one. I saw some really pretty citrus and bright stuff in Matches yesterday. Am ready for a bit of zing.

I just piled too many layers on; scarf, cashmere beret, long gloves and coat. All got a bit too much, felt too hot in the car.
