Brazilian waxing - first time - nervous!

dasheranddancer · 03/01/2012 11:52

Have namechanged for this, sorry Blush
I've met a new man and though he's put no pressure on at all (as would run a mile) and despite usually having somewhat feminist views of unwanted hair - I've decided that just once I'm going to have it all off and see how I like it.
I'm nervous though! Where do I go? Does it matter - lots of places seem to do it. Do I tell them I'm nervous? Do they remove it all right back to the anal region? Will it be someone female? Can I just turn up? Does it matter that I had sex yesterday?
Sorry for all the questions and not even a Friday - any answers gratefully received :)

Hi Dasher,
I get Hollywoods - but have only just upgraded from a Brazillian Wink
I would get a recommendation for a salon from a mate, I would think you would have to book.
It is usually a women who does waxing, some do your ass & some don't - so I would check before she starts. Yes, say you are nervous Smile
No, wouldn't of thought that it mattered if you had sex the day before.

Salons have different ideas of brazilians - mine would leave thin line of hair underneath & a 'landing strip' at the front. A Hollywood is it all off.

If you haven't been waxed like this before I would recommend getting brazilian done first & if you are comfortable go for Hollywood.

Don't do it. Read Caitlin Moran on the subjec, and don't buy into such anti feminist crap.

HedgeHop · 03/01/2012 12:19

I agree with seeker - it's foolish.

Northumberlandlass · 03/01/2012 12:27

You do what you want.
I do it for me.

I don't understand how it can be foolish ?

HedgeHop · 03/01/2012 12:30

Northumberland - you're right. People can do what they want and I was being hasty.

seeker · 03/01/2012 12:55

It's foolish because it's buying into a profoundly anti- woman pornographic sensibility.

And in a minute someone will come along and say that she does it because it's more hygienic.

And someone else will come along and say they do it for themselves and it's nothing to do with men.

Northumberlandlass · 03/01/2012 13:03

Ok seeker. Each to their own.

smearedinfood · 03/01/2012 13:06

I think you should do want you want with your body.
I had two female flatmates that loved them. I've never done it but I had another mate who got in grown hairs and apparently it's itchy when it grows back. She also said something strange about how pubes direct your wees. So she had to wipe the toilet seat afterwards. I still ponder on that sometimes....

MidnightinMoscow · 03/01/2012 13:07

Ok, feminist arguments aside, here are my answers to your questions:

Go to either a salon that someone recommends or failing that, one that looks clean and the staff appear professional.

Yes, it will be a woman. I personally like to have a freshen up before I go, and many places offer you some baby wipes before that start.

They will do all of the undercarriage and most places offer to do around your bottom, although not all do. You should be left with a strip in the middle of your pubic mound. The therapist should keep asking you if you are happy with it, whether you want more off etc.

I would take a couple of paracetamol before hand, it will take the edge off.

Suggest you call some places, you may get an appointment for later.

Oh, and wear some old knickers, sometime sou get bits of wax on them.

seeker · 03/01/2012 13:10

You can't put the feminist arguments aside.

HedgeHop · 03/01/2012 13:12

The times I did it, it was because I'd been asked and I didn't like it because they were looking and assessing.

HappyWilly · 03/01/2012 14:16

You need to find someone who has been trained to do intimate waxing otherwise they don't support the skin properly which can leave you bruised or with too many layers of skin removed.

Usually they will use a specific type of wax for area which makes it less painful and make sure that the therapist doesn't double dip, meaning that the spatula shouldn't go back into the pot in between applications of wax.

I would be 99.9% certain that it would be a woman and that you will need to be knickerless.

I would agree with Midnight that paracetamol helps and that you should freshen up before your appointment.

HedgeHop · 03/01/2012 14:20

Happywilly -we have so much to talk about.

cyb · 03/01/2012 14:22

Get your head waxed at the same time

About as much point in doing that as well

I'm with seeker, sorry Wink

MrsCampbellBlack · 03/01/2012 14:23

Strip wax bar is brilliant - they have them in Harvey Nichols. The wax they use is the most painless ime.

It will be embarassing - its a knicker off and legs akimbo situation but I prefer the results to au naturel.

I have read Caitlin Moran and yet still get a brazilian because I prefer the look/feel Wink

seeker · 03/01/2012 14:25

Yes, right. You prefer the look and feel. Why is that, do you think?

two4one · 03/01/2012 14:47

"Get your head waxed at the same time".

Grin Grin

HedgeHop · 03/01/2012 14:48

I'm still agreeing with seeker. I tried because I was asked, I didn't look 'right', and then felt shit about myself. That can't be right because I had an imperfect body like any other.

MrsCampbellBlack · 03/01/2012 14:51

Oh I agree its the spread of the influences of the porn industry but I do prefer not to have pubes poking out the side of my knickers.

And my DH doesn't really care either way.

Undertone · 03/01/2012 15:04

Mrs C-B... have you thought that maybe the knicker designers are in a conspiracy with the people who say that seeing pubic hair is ugly?

Wear bigger pants!

dasheranddancer · 03/01/2012 16:39

Oh, seeker, I agree deep down but I am blatantly NOT thinking with my head, am I, I've given in to lust and I'm enjoying it! I know I'm selling out. For society, for a man, for all of that, but hopefully the sky isn't going to fall in if, just this once, I don't think and just enjoy.

Right, going tomorrow morning. Thank you all so much for answering all my questions. How do I ask if they do right the way to the back Blush and also, will I be able to have sex tomorrow night Blush Blush as I really don't want to miss out on that...

You should be find for tomorrow night, although a little tender. Where there's a will there's a way though, I'm sure.

To be honest, I've never asked whether they do the bottom - if they don't then they clearly don't if you see what I mean.

Karbea · 03/01/2012 16:49

make sure they use hot wax as it hurts a lot less.

JasperJohns · 03/01/2012 16:55

I get Brazilians which is all off apart from 1cm strip at very front.

Everything underneath including bum.

Has to be hot wax. I never find it tender afterwards.

I put a tampon in if I have had sex night before, just in case! (I cut the string off)

You will love it, dasher, and I bet you will become hooked.

recall · 03/01/2012 16:59

OUCH !!!!!!!!
