New Thread

OP posts:
reallygrumpy · 13/01/2011 08:28

This thread moves so fast! I keep trying to catch up in the evenings and then by the time I've caught up I'm too tired to write anything.

cake sorry about your health stuff, I hope you're looking after yourself. I've been meaning to say for days that I hope your move goes well, the thought of moving with 3 dcs would leave me a hyperventilating wreck. Your ability to take things in your stride and stay upbeat is amazing.

everything I had dinner recently with a friend who's in the final stages of a divorce. There was no one else involved and they've managed to keep it fairly amicable. She was worried about being on her own but said it's less lonely being alone than living with someone who doesn't communicate. On the sibling thing, DH has several friends who are in second marriages and have children and step children. From what I've seen, their children who are half siblings don't notice the difference and just see their brother or their sister. Did you hear about the house?

Oh, and someone was asking about mn names, mine's due to name changing when I was fed up. 'grumpy' was taken so I had to go for 'reallygrumpy' instead Grin.

Hello to everyone else, I'll try and have a look at the meet up places. I should really be working but I'm on a train to a training course and there's free wifi. The course is 2 days so I'm staying overnight and am looking forward to a bath, an early night and not having to get up before 8. What do you think is the min amount of time I can get away with spending in the bar networking after dinner?

Hope you all have good days.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 08:46

yes to offline as we narrow down.

If people want to pm me or NY with ideas or feedback that would be ace. Esp feedback on below.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 08:52

just quickly does anyone know how to send a group pm??

LetThemEatCake · 13/01/2011 09:00

Think you just enter screen names separated by commas Marsha

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 09:02

thanks just saw Roma sent a pm. Obviously people can pm everyone with feedback not just NY or me!

PlumSykes · 13/01/2011 09:27

Uggh, just spent 45 mins trying to sort out car insurance-how dull.

However, one of the school mums has just given me a my-wardrobe carrier stuffed full of her Ds's hand-me-downs for little Plum. Is all Petit Bateau/Ralph Lauren/White Co, and very exciting for me, because I've never had anything given to me before, either for DD or DS.

Did a Cake-style trip to the dry cleaber last night, and shoved everything that is Hand Wash or Dry Clean Only in pillow case on a delicate cycle in the machine. All looks fine, and wearing the Warehouse swallow silk shirt, which looks to have survived it's wash well! Thanks Cake!

We're off to Stay and Play, back later .

notyummy · 13/01/2011 09:33

Marsha - Thanks for you work on the venue!

I have PMed you, but also just a couple of general pointers that I think can be put on the board.

Location: Most people seemed to want to stay pretty central given where people were travelling from.

Price: Obviously we are looking for somewhere fairly cool in central London, so it isn't going to be cheap. I do know though from what people have said to me, that we understandably dealing with a wide range of budgets, with many people also having to factor in train/plane travel and accommodation expenses. Anywhere that wants to charge significantly for a room/area, or where food platters/drinks are significantly more expensive than the central London average are probably not fair for all. (I haven't got down to price yet on any of the options I looked at.)

Food: Most people have said that they will definitely need a reasonable amount of food on offer. Party idea good as opposed to sitting down, but we will have to cost up per head some bar food and make sure everyone is happy with the suggested amount (of food and £££!).

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 09:36

NY no probs it feels like a big task thought I'd help out, but don't wish to barge in!

carciofi · 13/01/2011 09:38

Kildare, funny about the sofas! I like the dress.

Plum, that's great about the clothes.

I have given most of my DD's clothes away so have nothing if I have another girl, however a friend said that she has loads of gorgeous baby girl's clothes, all Spanish brands and, I am sure, much nicer than the clothes I gave away.

Meggles, I always reduce the price. DH is strictly on a need-to-know basis.

Sophable, I put cashmere in the machine on the handwash cycle.

Brandalley is having a sale on Bloch. I didn't know they did kids shoes. So sweet.

Marsha, I got your pm but I can't make it, unfortunately.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 09:40

That's fine Carciofi, I felt a bit mean leaving some people out so did everyone!

Zembo · 13/01/2011 09:49

Morning ladies! I'm never going to be able to catch up and I realise I've missed some crucial meet details - please could someone send me a PM and fill me in?

Cake impressed at your 4am start, I've got you down as an owl, whereas I'm an extreme lark!

Just unpacking now Blush, in my defense I went back to work the day after we got back (not recommended!). Have mountains of washing etc to do Sad...better go and get on with it...

notyummy · 13/01/2011 10:12

Marsha - Not bargeing, helping Smile.

Still knackered after my uber-long day yesterday. Working from home today, so have a pile of work to do, followed by a run at lunchtime which I hope may purk me up. Because of planned run, I dropped DD off at school in a rather unbecoming running based outfit. Never mind!

DolceeBanana · 13/01/2011 10:13

Now I am confused, re bra measurement thing...everything....why say not add 4 or 5 to get bra band size....I am 30 before addition btw.? What to do......??? Confused and I had a rather horrid experience of a rather Trinny-esque matron in a large dept store grappling with my somewhat diminished breasts before so do not want to do that again!!! I am most probably an A or B but just want to get it right

DolceeBanana · 13/01/2011 10:14

Hi Zembo and wow Cake...!

LetThemEatCake · 13/01/2011 10:20

Ooh on bus with boys but may have an idea.. Back later

florenceuk · 13/01/2011 10:23

Just delurking in a jet lagged state (spent a month in NZ and have just returned). No comment on fashion as my summer in NZ was a fashion-free zone (shorts, tshirts, rash tops, sun burn in weird places).

BTW my opinion on larger-sized chest measurements - I always think Joan from Mad men looks amazing on the show in what are generally very high necked, fitted tops/dresses. Where she looks bad is in the lower cut more revealing stuff she wears for award ceremonies.

pickledsiblings · 13/01/2011 10:24

Good morning ladies. I'm in a good mood today despite DS1 getting to school late because of flat tyre. Stupid potholes. The nice guy that changed the tyre may have something to do with it Wink.

LTEC well done on operation lark - just make sure you get to bed early tonight Smile

Marsha, got your PM. Well done for stepping up. All of the venues seem fab to me - I'll go anywhere. How did your shoe trying on session go? Are you keeping them?

Plum, link to olive leopard scarf please
I so need a spring version of the warehouse one but I am not too keen on the white swallow (wonder if they'll do a navy version). A greeny coloured one sounds perfect.

macmama · 13/01/2011 10:32

hah at NZ being a "fashion-free zone"... there is some truth in that (depending on where you are of course!).
Hope you enjoyed it florence were you mainly north or south? Are you native or married to a native?

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 10:37

Got that venue post removed. Will add the ones I looked at to the ones you all send me Grin

Pickled I have mentally switched b/n return or keep about 8 times! I love the sparkles. They are tad roomy (sausages?) they look too full on with black in day, good with light grey, horrible with indigo skinnies. So close.... I shall ponder a bit more...

blossoming · 13/01/2011 10:37

Hi again!
Still in a bit of a huff with dh who told me I was wasting money when I admitted having thrown out every last bit of chocolate from the house yesterday (we had stuff left over from Easter ffs). Strictly need to know with men, as he wouldn't have noticed otherwise!
He is so not excersizing with me now!!

sophable, I bought the dukan books, read them and realised the protein only day for ever wasn't for me.

ooohwhatif, everything sounds spot on there with a winter analysis. Maybe the mustard you liked was really acid yellow? That's a winter colour. I would love to be a consultant but when I applied they said my area was already covered. I urge people to go have it done properly though. £95 for a few hours to yourself, and you get the colours in your palette graded ho suit you. If not I like the 'colour story' section onthe kettlewellcolours.co.uk website helpful.
Wearing the right colours make you look younger snd thinner apparently! Sure worked for me yesterday with positive comments on my photos! Maybe my jacket wouldn't work with norks though.

mrsjuan, can't wait to see the HH!

OP posts:
blossoming · 13/01/2011 10:39

marsha, have you pm'd me?

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 10:43

sorry bloss have done now

pickledsiblings · 13/01/2011 10:47

Mrs Juan how lovely to be able to wear a strapless dress like the HH. I think strapless is instant glamour. I too am looking forward to the pic. Unfortunately, Glam is not a look that I can do well. I may well be wearing shorts to the meet up, I kid you not.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2011 10:48

Shorts are ace pickled. I love shorts.

carciofi · 13/01/2011 10:53

Bloss, I fully agree that you need a range of coats for winter. I'd like your Pure Collection jacket in navy. DH told me not to have DD's hair trimmed but it was a knotty mess so I had it cut anyway and he didn't notice. Grin

Zembo, hope you had a lovely holiday.
