Umm why do you all hate Crocs so much?

Are they never acceptable? Even the Mary Jane ones. I have two pairs and I love them and they go with everything (Black and Bronze).

I am starting to feel a little self conscious about them now though as they seem to be so despised here on MN.

Have even name changed for this thread.

Because crocs are hideous. The ones that look like crocs are, anyway.

dexter73 · 13/08/2010 19:15

They look horrible.

snook1 · 13/08/2010 19:17

Personally I just don't like them. Can't really put my finger on why I don't like them, I just don't.

I don't think they really go with anything.

onimolap · 13/08/2010 19:19

I think they're brilliant for on the beach, and for quickly popping down the garden. But I wouldn't wear them anywhere else, even though the children do.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/08/2010 19:20

becasue they are hideous and are the same as flip-flops- should only be worn at the beach.

TheMoonOnAStick · 13/08/2010 19:22

I don't mind them for certain things - beach/picnics/camping they're great for that.

I couldn't give a monkeys if anyone despises what I wear on my feet. Lol at name changingGrin

FranSanDisco · 13/08/2010 19:23

They are really children's shoes in my mind and I would never wear them.

grumblegrumble · 13/08/2010 19:23

They don't go with everything. They go with NOTHING. Except perhaps a swimsuit if you are pre-school age.

MarsLady · 13/08/2010 19:24

because they're ugly! I feel the same about Uggs.

slummybutyummy · 13/08/2010 19:26

I have lovely sage green ones - wore them loads 2 years ago but now sadly they are just for the garden and beach. Still fond of them despite the hatred they get!

hmc · 13/08/2010 19:28

I have black mary jane crocs - I've been known to wear them in public, but then I am of the "don't give a damn, throw on a pair of jeans and bugger the grooming school of thought". I have noticed that my 'out and proud' open croc wearing has liberated a number of my friends and coaxed them out of their furtive croc wearing closet. They ain't pretty but I do find them most extraordinarily easy to wear

hmc · 13/08/2010 19:28

Lol at you changing your name for this!!!

whomovedmychocolate · 13/08/2010 19:32

Sod off all of you I love my black crocs. The only shoes I can shove in the dishwasher with my dishes and have them come out sterile and lovely.

I have mary jane crocs too.

Wore them at the end of two pregnancies and they were bloody marvellous for walking the dog when I couldn't reach to put my shoes on.

They look crap but so what.

whomovedmychocolate · 13/08/2010 19:36

The stick on thing are vile I'll agree. But plain unadorned crocs are a thing of beauty for their simplicity. They are quite nordic in their functionality without excessive fripperies. If the Amish did a fashion clog, it'd be a croc. So there!

grumblegrumble · 13/08/2010 19:37

Do you apply the 'look rubbish but I don't care, they're comfy' approach to other items of clothing - in public....?

OrientCalf · 13/08/2010 19:38

they are hideous

as are fitflops

though I have a dirty fitflop secret in that I wear them to walk to work, then change into nice shoes round the corner before I arrive

whomovedmychocolate · 13/08/2010 19:40

grumblegrumble - I genuinely don't think they look rubbish. I think Ugg boots are quite funny looking but crocs are just crocs. Just like wearing ballet flats, they are an unremarkable shoe.

I have my going out shoes and I have my crocs, my trainers and my boots. But quite honestly, I'm such a short arse I doubt anyone realises I'm wearing them as my jeans are always slightly too long.

TotalChaos · 13/08/2010 19:41

well they are fugly. but are incredibly comfortable so I don't care. and I even wear them to work, as my work often involves me walking considerable distances. When I saw a colleague wearing flipflops once summer, I thought sod it, I'll wear my crocs then.

grumblegrumble · 13/08/2010 19:42

Do you think they look OK whmc? They look like big, flat flippers to me! But I have big feet, so have a thing about shoes that make my feet look bigger than they are.

hmc · 13/08/2010 19:42

Yes grumble - quite often. I don't give a toss as long as I am freshly showered and nice smelling. In fact I am a little saddened by the vanity and conceit of today's society, obsessing about 'appearance'. But then I always have thought differently to most people (thank fuck for that)

Fiddledee · 13/08/2010 19:43

crocs for beach or garden only horrified when I forgot to change the other day

Love fitflops if you walk miles with buggies/kids and have back problems why wear anything else.

Ewe · 13/08/2010 19:43

They take pride of place in the ugly shoe hall of fame for me, they are horrid. I can't think of a single situation where it's necessary to wear them.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/08/2010 19:43

Crocs are vile, just vile.

Fine for gardening or whatever, but I loathe to see someone going round the shops in them or having lunch out or whatever.

I feel the same about tracksuits.
