Umm why do you all hate Crocs so much?

Are they never acceptable? Even the Mary Jane ones. I have two pairs and I love them and they go with everything (Black and Bronze).

I am starting to feel a little self conscious about them now though as they seem to be so despised here on MN.

Have even name changed for this thread.

And as to the why wear them argument.

Well, as I've said they're functional, they're also comfortable, and best of all they get a rise out of people.

I quite enjoy that.

Crocs are fab to wear to hang to the washing out or on the beach. Also for slipping on to go to the loo in the middle of the night when camping.

But I wouldn't wear them anywhere else.

hmc · 13/08/2010 20:33

plimsolls stink after a while though

dexter73 · 13/08/2010 20:34

You can put plimsolls in the washing machine.

xkaylax · 13/08/2010 20:36

Personally I would never wear them but each to there own would never look twice at an adult with them on its their choice

However I just think they are children shoes I love them for my DS they're easy to clean and look cute and my ds loves picking the jibitz for them

But like i said each to their own and if you like them you wear them Smile

sungirltan · 13/08/2010 20:37

i think they look really cute on small dcs and ridiculous on adults. and they smell of feet.

dh insisted on buying some for when he's on the rig because they arn't allowed flip flops. he isn't allowed to wear them at home - he even agreed to that because they are so wrong!

hmc · 13/08/2010 21:22

Sure Dexter - but with crocs you don't have to.

dexter73 · 13/08/2010 21:27

But someone on here said they they smell like feet and you can put them in the dishwasher so it sounds like they do need cleaning to me!

purplepeony · 13/08/2010 21:31

Because they look like big chunks of plastic with holes in them.

Most people who wear them seem to be scruffy from the crocs up as well.

pointydog · 13/08/2010 21:46

Because everyone looks shit in them.

wellilovecrocsmyself · 13/08/2010 23:28

Well that was pretty catergorical.

I still like them and would still wear them. Only the Mary Jane's though.

So what is the deal with Converse then? Do we like or not?

Think they're awful on women but even worse on men.

rimmer08 · 14/08/2010 08:16

crocs are the ugliest shoes out there, i would rather wear birkies on the beach

diddl · 14/08/2010 08:54

Do they actually fit anyone?

They are ridiculously wide & also have no support-it´s like walking on bubble wrap.

(Don´t have any, but that´s what I thought when I tried them on)

wellilovecrocsmyself · 14/08/2010 09:50

Even the Mary-Jane design? They fit really well and and very comfortable.

DS has a red and white England pair that he lives in (dirt cheap from Sports Direct), probably because he can't be bothered with laces on trainers.

I actually had a pair in my hand the other day and was in a queue to buy them, but I couldn't bring myself to do it and walked out! (even though I am going camping and they are the perfect camping shoe, I will slither through the mud in my flip flops!)Grin

FakePlasticTrees · 14/08/2010 10:49

Jodee - buy some nice wellies. They are the perfect camping footwear - you get to look all 'festival chic' if you put them with shorts... Wellies and flip flops are surely the only footwear required for a camping holiday. Oh, maybe hiking boots if you're going camping somewhere you might go for long walks.

I just don't get wanting to wear plastic shoes when not on the beach or at a pool side - but then I was raised by a mother who is obsessed with natural fibres for clothing and footwear. (And they do look shit - whilst I can see you wouldn't care when you'd already got them on some occassions, I don't understand choosing something that looks shit in the first place)

hmc · 14/08/2010 12:30

"Most people who wear them seem to be scruffy from the crocs up as well."

Absolutely - that's me. Am I supposed to be concerned about that?!?

SallyDZ · 14/08/2010 14:48

This post has made me chuckle so much. I absolutely hate crocs they are incredibly ugly awful things but I thought it was just me and dh with such strong views, didn't know there was a whole group of people out there feeling the same!!!

My little boy is starting school this September and I was discussing the uniform with a friend and asked her what sort of 'indoor' shoes she was getting for her son. I also think plimsolls are completely ugly and didn't want to get him them so she suggested I get him crocs instead. After I nearly choked on my tea she asked what the problem was. I told her crocs were the ugliest shoes on this planet and I certainly would not be putting my child in them...

My other friend loves them and both her, dh and their 2 dd's live in them. They have all different colours to match what they are wearing that day. Dreadful.

Crocs is ugly-bugly!

Although not too keen on Ugg type boots, I have some because my feet are ALWAYS freezing. I think my biggest beef with Uggs is that they are not made to support feet well, so 99% of people pronate so badly in them that they are no longer walking on the sole of the boot, but walking over onto the suede.

I was mightily miffed when I get mine and had to fork out even more money on orthotics so I could stand up straight in them. Worth it in the end though.

I hate Crocs because DD1 want a pair and every single time we try to buy her some they are either to big or too small, never ever her size. SO,in protest, I just decided that I really did not like themGrin

FairgroundTown · 14/08/2010 18:17

Agree that the original ones are fugly (though I wear them all the time around the house) but the Yukon ones really don't look anything like so 'croccy' and I have just spent a week wearing them on holiday, where we did a fair bit of walking in hot weather, and they were sooooo comfortable, without the 'croc' fashion penalty. (Put it this way, my very fashion-conscious DW let me wear them, so they really CAN'T be so bad!!)

(I have the black ones.)

dexter73 · 14/08/2010 18:23

The Yukons are just as bad as the normal ones!

SpawnChorus · 14/08/2010 18:40

LOL at the yukon ones being any different from the original ones (forry fairgroundtown).

I've just got some for my DS, but I couldn't imagine ever wearing them myself. And I'm a scruff.
