Umm why do you all hate Crocs so much?

Are they never acceptable? Even the Mary Jane ones. I have two pairs and I love them and they go with everything (Black and Bronze).

I am starting to feel a little self conscious about them now though as they seem to be so despised here on MN.

Have even name changed for this thread.

I don't like them and wouldn't buy them but I don't hate them. And I have seen a total range of people wearing them including beautiful ( otherwise Smile) well groomed women.

kerstina · 16/08/2010 13:41

Can only guess that Daisystone is under 25? Don't you stop caring what is cool or not at that age? I consider myself to have reasonable taste in clothes and think they look ok with jeans. I don't have any but my little boy has a fake pairGrin

hmc · 16/08/2010 15:24

BunnyL - I was feeling a little disgruntled that you have the audacity to agree with daisystone in all her vacuity, but then I took a look at your profile and suddenly felt a whole lot better....

hmc · 16/08/2010 15:32

I could really get into this whole 'judging on appearances' thing - thanks ladies for showing me the way!

AbsOfCroissant · 16/08/2010 15:50

I personally don't like them and wouldn't wear them myself because they look like something that a garden gnome would wear.

I do care about how I look, because I have self-respect and am hardly dim (have a Masters degree, Professional Qualifications, speak five languages. BOO YA)

BunnyLebowski · 16/08/2010 15:58

hmc So because I disagree with you about shoes you choose to get personal and insult me?

Classy.

Jog on there's a love.

cheesesarnie · 16/08/2010 16:01

crocs are for children to wear in the river or at the beach.

eurgh

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/08/2010 16:06

fuck me HMC that was bloody below the belt.

Bunny and Daisy were just generically throwing some comments around, going on someone's profile and making a personal crack is unecessary, and hurtful.

We are talking about COLOURED PLASTIC SHOES btw, why the vitriol?

BunnyLebowski · 16/08/2010 16:09

Thanks GetOrf.

No idea what her problem is. Maybe she invented crocs?!

Catilla · 16/08/2010 16:10

No-one has mentioned the even more practical reason... protection!
I wear mine (silver Mary Janes) at home instead of slippers - they don't wear out as fast as slippers, nor get as smelly, and I've lost count of the number of times I would have seriously injured my toes withouth them. In fact last night while my crocs were in the washing machine, I hit my toe really hard - it's still hurting!

stillbobbysgirl · 16/08/2010 16:10

There is a I HATE CROCS webiste, and there motto is - Crocs should only be worn by people too young, too old or too ugly to have sex.

Think they have a bit of a point!

QueuePosition3 · 16/08/2010 16:10

i dont mind
you wear em and by default i look better

stillbobbysgirl · 16/08/2010 16:11

Agree Catila - they are for in house/garden use!

cheesesarnie · 16/08/2010 16:13

bunny fwiw(i missed all the nastiness before i posted)i think you are blardy bootiful!

hmc · 16/08/2010 16:23

Oh come, come now, all the indignation is so ironic!

All I did was judge you on your appearance - you and Daisystone both seem to revel in this. You both agree that all croc wearers are ...what was it...a 'frumpy mess'. As it happens I don't happen to agree with judging on appearances (we all do it, but best to recognise it as one of our baser tendancies and try to rationalise)- but thought I would indulge just this once to give you a taste of your own medicine. Seems quite reasonable to me (triple shrug)

ohboreoffwhydontyou · 16/08/2010 16:27

I think it was mean to slag her off hmc but you make a valid point.

I wear Crocs. As someone else said I can't count the times I have been grateful for them as I would have hurt my toes otherwise. As it happens I broke my toes, years ago and they are not pretty so I can't wear flip flops or sandalls. Crocs seemed a good option for me. I don't think I am a frumpy mess but it is enlightening to know that others might on the basis of my choice of footwear alone.

hmc · 16/08/2010 16:30

Perhaps it was a liddle bit mean - but I was thinking 'fair game' ....

RonansMummy · 16/08/2010 16:36

ugly! and bad for your feet!

fluffles · 16/08/2010 16:44

I love ugly shoes..

these are a fave of mine:
www.amazon.co.uk/BIRKENSTOCK-Boston-Birko-Filz-regular-insole/dp/B000KBNLG4/ref=sr_1_26?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1281973457&sr=1-26

But there's something just WRONG about plastic/rubber shoes... they weird me out for some reason Confused

QueuePosition3 · 16/08/2010 16:55

but tbh anyone who posts so many pics of themselves on mn - you have to question WHY

Kewcumber · 16/08/2010 16:59

My crocs are horrible and I lurrve them.

You wouldnt understand unlss you have feet form hell how much you are prepared to look like a troll in order for your feet not to hurt. And when you are a size 9E your choice is limited.

You can;t think if your feet hurt and I pride myself on being very good at thinking... its my "thing"... having smart feet is not. Ergo crocs for summer 90% of the time, and some other more closed in slovenly shoe for winter.

GetOrfMoiLand · 16/08/2010 17:01

I think I am so used to shoes being uncomfortable I take it as a given (also size 9, but spent years squeezing my feet into size 8s).

kew - you probably know this already but new Look always stock size 9s and have a good range of shoes, plus the most comfortable padded high heel shoes on the High Street.

tethersend · 16/08/2010 17:12

I can't believe this has kicked off.

It's S&B- surely you can guess that it's a topic very much concerned with appearance?

Confused
daisystone · 16/08/2010 17:14

my God hmc - have you been on here all day rambling on?

What is ironic is that you have posted previously about other people being holier than thou when someone judges them.

Classic case of pot and kettle dear.

As a thirty-something year old woman I can have an opinion. Your bullying tactics won't change that. I simply cannot believe you are so wound up about shoes. Some would say that was awfully vacuous....

hmc · 16/08/2010 17:34

It's okay - you can have the last word daisystone, I've said everything that I wanted to and am bowing out. Arguing a point with you is like kicking a puppy, it really doesn't feel good!
