Howdy!!!! Squirrel 3 and I have decided that as we are a bit nutty, we'd like to set up the Nutty Stepmum's Club or NSC. If anyone would like to join us, please add to this post and prove that we are not the only nutters out there!

We would like to add a little bit more nuttyness to our already insane lives!!!!

tarantula · 07/10/2005 08:46

Hello Everyone!!!! Glad to see you back Reflection.
Hey NAAM Youre a Saggi like me then Obviously thats why we get on so well. I'm the 10th of Dec, Dp is the 29th and dd is the 15th of Jan. Also got 2 Nieces b'days on the 1st and 1 on the 9th of Jan and a stepnephew (BIL's gf's son) on Boxing day.
Sorry to hear about you and p Ninah. One good thing about having a Christmas babay is people tend not to forget it or is that just me? ....Ok so its probably jsut me then. I like the idea of the unbirthday party in the summer.

Right now pass that champagne here. It is Friday after all.

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 08:48

You've been drinking already haven't you tarantula?

tarantula · 07/10/2005 09:02

Yeah I needed a large glass after the cycle I had this morning. Drivers round our way are complete and utter loonies and arrogant tossers to boot. Got scraped on the elbow by a wing mirror thsi morning by an gobshite who was driving too close to me. Wouldnt mind but it was a european car so he was right next to me too so its not like he didnt notice me. gggggrrrrrrrrr Its not like he could get very far eihter as the traffic was stopped just ahead.I yelled in his window as I passed him and he nearly chocked on his cigar [evil ] I convinced he hadnt even noticed hed been so close to me.
Also had two drivers pull out on me from parking spaces and two nearly pull out on top of me at roundabouts. Im a nervous wreck now. Is there a full moon coming up or something?

NotActuallyAMum · 07/10/2005 09:02

Morning all!!

Squirrel that's great that you've got a weekend on your own. How about some fresh pasta and sauce? It's nice and quick - the last thing you want is to be stuck in the kitchen for ages cooking. You could buy a cake and some icing letters and write him a message on it??

Champagne sounds wonderful - thanks tarantula - just cos it's Friday is a good enough excuse for me Yes I'm a Saggi - 3rd December

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 09:05

Tarantula, have another large glass! You need it, hope you are ok.

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 09:09

NAAM, we had pasta yesterday, nice idea about the cake though.

NotActuallyAMum · 07/10/2005 09:23

Hmmmm, trying to think what else you could do that's quick - I'm not known for my good thinking this early in the morning, specially on a Friday

You could always get a take-away

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 09:25

Lol, I'll think of something, talk to you later.

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 13:13

Oi!!!!

Where is everybody?

NotActuallyAMum · 07/10/2005 13:17

I'm here!!

Had to do some work - don't know how they've got the cheek to expect me to work on a Friday

That's it now tho - I'm doing nothing else today

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 13:29

Hello, I've decided I am going to cook:

Lamb cutlets with caramelised roast vegetables!

Serves 2
6 lamb cutlets, trimmed of fat
3 tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic, peeled and coarsely chopped
Bunch of mixed herbs (basil, thyme and rosemary), coarsely chopped

For the roast vegetables

6 shallots, peeled and halved
6 new potatoes, half cooked and halved
2 tbsp oil
1 Red pepper
1 courgette, sliced
1 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
1/2 tbsp honey
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 basil leaves, shredded

  1. Place the lamb cutlets in a shallow dish and sprinkle with the olive oil, garlic and herbs. Turn them in the mixture then cover and leave in a cool place for approximately 2 hours for the flavours to infuse.
  2. Preheat the oven to 220ºC/425ºF/gas mark 7/fan oven 200ºC.
  3. Mix the shallots, new potatoes, pepper and olive oil.
  4. Place them in a roasting tray large enough to take them in a single layer, and put them in the oven to roast for about 15 minutes.
  5. Add the courgette to the vegetables in the roasting tray with the garlic and honey. Stir to mix in the honey, season generously and return them to the oven for approximately 5 minutes more to give the vegetables time to caramelise.
  6. Remove the cutlets from the marinade and season well. Heat an empty frying pan over a moderate heat for 2-3 minutes to make sure the cutlets are seared the instant they come into contact with it. Fry them until they are golden brown.
  7. Remove the vegetables from the oven and scatter the shredded basil over them. Serve alongside the cooked cutlets.

See simple!

Lemon meringue for Desert! I may try to pipe a message on top with the meringue mixture!

SirFurmum · 07/10/2005 13:37

Hello! Just a mad dash in as dd has just woken up (damn - I just sat down for a bit of a browse). Nice to see you Squirrel. Hope all is well with everyone in the land of SMs.

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 13:40

Yes, I'm fine Surfermum thank you, how are you?

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 14:05

NAAM, I thought you wasn't going to do any more work today!!!

Fancy expecting you to actually work on a Friday afternoon!!!

NotActuallyAMum · 07/10/2005 14:32

Just been for lunch I like a late lunch cos it makes the afternoon go quicker, specially on a Friday cos I finish at half 4

That recipe sounds great, I'm going to steal that and try it

I went out at lunch to fill DPs new car up - got to the petrol station and couldn't get the bloody cap off! Felt a right idiot! And probably looked it too

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 14:40

A domestic goddess, thats me not.

Lol at not being able to take off petrol cap, at least you didn't take it off and forget to put it back! (which sounds remarkably like something I would do!)

NotActuallyAMum · 07/10/2005 14:53

Yes that's true

Still can't believe I've just done that tho! I couldn't even get to the actual petrol cap - there's a silver "flap" over it and I couldn't get that open!! I just know that when I speak to DP he'll say "durr!! you only have to xxxxxxx" and I'll feel even more of an idiot! Never mind, I'll just remind him that he should be grateful that I was going to fill his car up for him

So, have you got anything else planned for the weekend, apart from the meal? Bet you're really looking forward to a weekend on your own, and quite right too!

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 14:56

Not really got anything planned, we are just going to have really relaxed weekend, think we need it.

I'll spoil him this evening, then he can spoil me for the rest of the weekend (that's fair, isn't it?)

NotActuallyAMum · 07/10/2005 15:05

That's more than fair

It'll be lovely for you, hope you enjoy it. DP and I are quite lucky really cos with me not having any children we do get quite a bit of time on our own, although his shifts are a pain the the a**e!!

DP and I are going to watch the England match in Manchester tomorrow and staying overnight so we'll probably be on about our 4th drink this time tomorrow . I know you don't like football but we're really looking forward to it - we've never been to an England match before

Squirrel3 · 07/10/2005 15:15

I hope you have a great time! I'm sure loads of people ~groan~ when I mention fishing!

The funny thing is that I used to think "fishing! how boring!", but then I met dp and he kept going on about fishing and I took the P out of him so he threw down the gauntlet and challenged me to give it a go. Being one who can never resist a challenge (prob why I am still a step-mum) I had a go one day and I have been hooked ever since!

I have tried football and still don't like it! Before you challenge me to going to a game!
