They literally can’t though wales and Northern Ireland are in the same path so only one can go through (and even that involves beating Italy)

It's all so bloody complicated this :(
I stopped paying attention when the UEFA groups had a mix of 4 and 5 teams in them so just thought they had one play off game. Clearly not!

Tiswa · 20/11/2025 20:58

I didn’t know New Caledonia was a country until today!

yes there are 4 paths so 4 teams can go through and the 16 teams were divided into 4 pots based on ranking and each path contains one from each pot

Brefugee · 21/11/2025 10:16

I started boycotting FIFA/UEFA events at the Quatar world cup and am just carrying on. So if i come across info, or part of a match etc, i look. But i am not looking specifically at/for the world cup stuff.

In other news: Wednesday play United at home this weekend. Ho hum. We need a miracle. (but then, Gladbach won their Derby last match, the red and white team lost. So... it's the hope that kills you)

Hellohah · 21/11/2025 11:07

@Brefugee I believe that Harry Amass is doing well for you.

I went to a pub quiz this week and one of the questions was how many different teams have won the English football league.

I was trying to name them all and DS was surprised by some of the teams who'd won it through history and had to Google it to make sure I wasn't making stuff up! He wasn't as surprised by Wednesday as he was by Burnley and Huddersfield though 😂

Brefugee · 21/11/2025 11:44

Hee hee

In many years time there will be people surprised when you mention Leicester and Blackburn.

LlynTegid · 22/11/2025 09:56

At least if winners of the FA Cup come up, you won't forget the Royal Engineers as they get a mention on quiz shows from time to time (Paul Merton last night).

Tiswa · 22/11/2025 09:59

@LlynTegid i think we are sadly probably fair enough down the line from it now that Blackburn probably does already for some - they were relegated in 2012 just before my DS was born so probably anyone under 18 or so doesn’t particularly register them

Leicester is definitely still on the radar though

Tiswa · 22/11/2025 10:03

Actually I am wrong I just asked and he said yes back in 1995 with Alan Shearer and then looked at me as if to say why are you asking!

I am of course hoping that in time people will forget that Manchester United have won the title many times- it is now 12 years.

I always said that Dyche is a great manager.........

Couldn’t be happier for him.

we had 14 minutes at Gladbach the other day.

to be fair some of it was due to the away fans setting off so many flares nobody could see through the fog.

It would be minimised if they didn't all do the theatrical rolling around on the ground for 2 minutes for every single contact. Why is that? is it so the ref comes over, so VAR kicks in? it is pathetic.

Agree- technology should be for facts not something with an interpretation. Did the whole of the ball cross the line or go out of play is fact. Offside and handball to an extent is opinion.

Cuwins · 23/11/2025 12:32

Pleased with Brightons win against Brentford. Shows how close that part of the table is as a massive jump up the table for us.

TheSleepingGiant · 23/11/2025 12:52

Watching the Sheffield derby, hopefully Wednesday have a better 2nd half.

Boring (and very cold) visit to Priestfield yesterday. Barnet should have gone in 3-0 up at HT but instead a banging Bradley Dack free kick meant we went in at 1-1 and then neither team showed up for the second half.

Pleased to see the EFL now have a panini book. I need a shiny Akinfenwa sticker 😍

DuncinToffee · 23/11/2025 13:09

Not a good start to the second half for the Owls 😬

not unexpected, to be honest, most of us are just waiting for this season to be over.

Tarkan · 23/11/2025 17:45

Draw at Gayfield yesterday. We played Raith who are always a tough one for us. Some of the “fans” were awful, a young lad was beaten up in town by them and then they ended up with a police escort to the match, set off a whole load of flares and then didn’t get to see the end as the police decided enough was enough and removed most of them.

DH and I met with one of his old RAF buddies before the match though (a Raith fan too, and he had his dad with him) so he had a good catch up and it was nice for me to finally meet someone DH has spoken about for years LOL.
