Ta, Duncin.

Really looking forward to Chelsea vs Man City next Friday.

Oxonc3 · 31/08/2025 15:02

Thanks, looking forward to the season ahead.

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2025 15:40

Me too. We have quite an excititng team and proper investment behind it. Not enough to challenge the top 4 but a top half finish should be realistic

Everton have made excellent signings, but I think the move to Goodison Park will turn out to have been the most significant factor over the next few seasons. Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham and Brighton are going to do really well. LCL could come good but not until the second half of the seasib - too many new players, new relationships to build.

This is going to be the best and most competitive WSL season yet.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 31/08/2025 17:32

Thanks @DuncinToffee

Looking forward to starting the new season as Champions of Europe.

I didn't see our friendly against Spurs, but we were a bit rusty in the first half against West Ham.

Chelsea v City is gonna be 🔥.
We’ve actually got a little prediction league running in my circle — makes it way more fun when there’s a prize floating around 😅.

What are your top four predictions? Or are you waiting for the first round of matches to decide?

DuncinToffee · 01/09/2025 08:43

For me, Arsenal or Chelsea for first, the two Manchester teams for 3 and 4

I really hope it will be the most competitve season yet.

I am sure that:
Man City will surprise a lot of people. No CL and it would be very unfortunate to suffer as badly with injuries as last season, so their squad won't be stretched as much. Best attack in the WSL, all fit and having had a proper pre-season.
And the other certainty for me is that Man U will fall away.

Beyond that... The most I'm hoping for is that it is a realistic three-way battle until the end. But I suspect Chelsea will do it again. Sorry, fellow Arsenal fans. We are nearly there, but not quite.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/sep/03/wsl-and-wsl2-players-to-get-minimum-salaries-womens-football

Minimum salaries are being introduced in the Women’s Super League and WSL2 this season and will stop second-tier players needing part-time jobs on the side, Holly Murdoch, the chief operating officer of WSL Football, has told the Guardian.

Looks like we made our final signing a record signing, Ruby Mace from Leicester

I'm still hoping for a 30-seconds-before-11pm signing for us. The Reuteler story has whetted my appetite.

Well, it doesn't look like we got her. But LCL have just signed Grace Geyoro for £1.4m!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 06/09/2025 08:57

How good was Ellie Carpenter last night. Hopefully, a one game wonder, but I doubt it.

MrsMitford3 · 06/09/2025 14:08

My DIL just sent me a photo of her enjoying a pint in her seat at the Emirates.

Livvy Smith's goal was sensational. Happy days.

Yes, that goal changed the game. We were very nervous to start with and could easily have conceded more..

MrsMitford3 · 06/09/2025 15:43

It def changed the game but at that point the score line was very flattering to LCL.

I loathe the pitch side interviews.

Chloe Kelly post match interview fantastic-she threw shade with every word and I am here for it!!!

Snowypeaks · 06/09/2025 15:48

Agree with you both.

I loathe the pitch side interviews.
OMG, so do I! What is the effing point? And each time we missed something interesting on the pitch. Maaaaybe do them if there is a long injury time out but even then I'd rather see goals, or hear some analysis. It's a stupid idea and they're only doing it because Sky and others do. Different audience, BBC.

Can I join in? I admittedly know almost nothing about anything other than Chelsea, but DS and I have tickets for the Stamford Bridge matches again this season. The atmosphere last night was fantastic - I love it. I honestly never thought I'd be a football fan, but my DS is so passionate about it, he's really got me into it (much to my poor old Dad's irritation - he'd been trying for years).

Welcome.

Yes, I have always been an Arsenal fan and started watching the women a few years ago and now watch every game (usually on tv).

👋Hiya!
I was just thinking, I hope we get some more fans of other teams on this thread!

I only listened to the Chelsea-City match on the radio, but it did sound like a great game.

HannahHamptonsGloves · 06/09/2025 23:08

Thanks @MustTryHarderAndHarder and @Snowypeaks 🙂 Will try to make some vaguely informed contributions beyond "Yay we won/boo we lost"!

DuncinToffee · 07/09/2025 12:03

I can't watch the match so have to do with live text Sad
