My knowledge comes from a SM discussion, people remembering them beating us in the 2005 FA Cup final and some players moving to us when their team gos disbanded.

Euro 2017 was when I started following more closely, before that it was really hard to find places to watch the games. I did watch the olympic games and the US tournaments before that but not really club level games.

Congratulations to Charlton and to Barcelona Women - what a double-header that was yesterday! Charlton's keeper is an absolute legend after that display.

There have been a few women's teams who have suffered when the men's club has been relegated or run into serious financial problems - Barca Women being one of them! - so it's great to see at least one fighting its way back. Well done to Karen Hills.

Good FA Cup Final. Beforehand, I predicted the score, but I did not predict Brighton's excellent showing and City's nervous start. They really impressed with their game plan and their endeavour, but ultimately the other side were just better and perhaps had more fitness. It's fantastic experience for Brighton and I can definitely see them winning this or the Subway Cup in the future. They just needed to capitalise on their dominance. Special congrats to Fran Kirby on her performance.

Another cup for Viv! (That's how I'm looking at it.) Assist and a goal. POTM Alex Greenwood, no argument here. She's always so good whether at CB or FB. Bunny can be marked out of a game, but she only has to get free once. Congratulations on your domestic double, Man City.

We were at this Fri/Sat - sooooooo much fun!

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2026 09:37

It looked great fun. The walk outs, the celebrations and lots of goals.

I was very sniffy about it before it started but I've done a total 180 on it now. It was so nice seeing how much the players were enjoying themselves. Even though it was a competition they all wanted to win, it seemed really stress-free.

Lots of people on sm are still a bit sniffy,,but people were sniffy about 20/20 cricket until they saw it consistently.
Tbh I'd like to see it replace Conti Cup - i think it's a genuine opportunity to differentiate mens and womens football, appeal to a different & wider demographic and enhance the game overall. Especially with the growing popularity of futsal i think there's even the potential for 7's experts longer term. IPL style franchises outside of day-to-day clubs. Lauren James & Bunny Shaw on the same team for a couple of weeks....
It'll never happen i'm sure but maybe an international version one day as s compromise!

DuncinToffee · 02/06/2026 20:16

I wished it was free to watch.

The players had so much fun as did the management, the officials joined in as well.

Perfect way to end the season.

Very good point - the format really suits women's football and allows players to shine. It's a bit like women's doubles in tennis - the extra speed at which it is played actually increases the enjoyment in a way that men's doubles does not for middle-aged women like myself whose eyesight is not what it was! 😄
Football 7s has a fun, end-of-term feel, so I hope it continues to be a fixture but I'm not sure about it replacing the League Cup - I have a soft spot for the competition which I too continue to call the Conti Cup.

Loved Sonia Bompastor's camera work and the players looked great in the mannequin challenge. Wasn't so sure about Marc Skinner being Bad Bunny (whoever that is) because the stunting ought to feature the players rather than be all about the manager, imo. Good moves, though. I definitely got the gist.

OK maybe scrapping the Conti cup is a bit extreme 🤣 but with the international schedule etc it will be difficult to find a permanent home for 7's.
I still cal the mens coca cola and carling interchangeably so might take me a while to catch up with subway!

Anyone watching the England Spain game?? 🙏

Good thing that Spain are so sloppy with passing and finishing.

They 'only' scored 4. That really wasn't good from England.

Thank you for this. I'd completely forgotten it was happening today!

Hopefully we should be able to qualify. I think that's quite a kind draw.
