Welcome.

Good on him for celebrating. Not celebrating when scoring against an old team seems to have become a bit performative now.

I can understand if they leave on good terms, and had a good relationship with the fans. A bit like Robbie Brady’s goal v Burnley in the cup last season. Tho that was so good it didn’t need a celebration.

The club posted a selfie of him doing the thumbs up after the game too. 🤣

yep i find it hugely irritating, if you are playing for a team you need to fully embrace that team. Celebrating a goal against a former club doesn't need to be over the top, but not celebrating is (IMO) insulting to your new set of fans.

DuncinToffee · 05/10/2025 09:40

Agree, goals should to be celebrated.

Welcome @ButterPiesAreGreat

Welcome @ButterPiesAreGreat

What are butter pies?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butter_pie

Lancashire delicacy! Think of it as the Lancs equivalent of fish on Fridays, it’s basically a meat and potato pie without the meat. I often get one when I go on Deepdale, tho yesterday I queued up and got a SpudBros.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 05/10/2025 11:59

This is awful.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid033AU8SBWFfZJ6x939UgxrNQjxRSezejJCJsnn2GGRc88yzmyjGrCWBvYzqqHA25pVl&id=100063939451113

I was in the SpudBros queue when the security guards all left their posts and went into the bar. Everyone got kicked out then ambulance, police, paramedics and air ambulance all turned up.

What’s really sad is that we were already celebrating the life of a young dad that died suddenly yesterday and then this happens as well.

Tiswa · 05/10/2025 12:03

Did Declan Rice celebrate his goal against West Ham? Because IMO he should - massive step forward for them

I an with Roy Keane you play for a club that is your team and you celebrate accordingly

He didn't really celebrate. He ran around the goal and then celebrated with his team mates in a huddle. I think it's fair enough if it's the club that brought you up through their youth set up. That's a bit different to not celebrating against AN Other club that you just happened to spend a year with.

Brefugee · 05/10/2025 12:57

Butter pies sound amazing.

I love this thread, i am learning much about what food/drink is consumed at football grounds.

Am sad this season because the falaffel van obviously didn't make enough money to cover his pitch last season and isn't at Gladbach any more (despite my best effort of eating one every visit). So now we can buy burgers (it is one burger, if you don't want cheese, chili sauce or whatever you just have to tell them), sausages (Bratwurst or Krakauer), chips and/or schnitzel (in a bread roll) and now i believe veggie nuggets. Then there is the fish van with various types of uncooked/smoked/brined fish in a bread roll (including shrimp and very orange "seelachs" which translates to sea salmon) and a breaded fish filet (also in a bread roll)

Or there are crèpes (with nutella) or apple pancakes - which are thick like the bottom of a yorkshire pudding, with big chunks of apple in. They come with vanilla sauce (hot, so custard). Yum. Most of the fans from UK go for that

Yes, and I hadn’t paid much attention to where Thierry Small had been before and I assumed he’d come through their ranks which is why they were so mad at him. Turns out he joined them in Feb 24 on a contract that was only for the rest of the season, then an extension for last season was triggered! Claims he ran his contract down seem a bit bogus. As it was, because he is under 23, they got compensation of £200k for him, despite him only being there 16 months.

ButterPiesAreGreat · 05/10/2025 13:16

Yep, always interesting.

It’s pretty much nearly all pies inside the ground, with those rollover hotdogs. The new caterers at Deepdale often have specials now though which I’m yet to try, but yesterday it was beef arepas. Outside the ground, as well as SpudBros, there’s a couple of burger vans.
My only complaint is they don’t do gravy or peas with the pies in the ground like they used to. Perfect on a cold afternoon!

Tarkan · 05/10/2025 13:32

Sad to hear about the fan at PNE. Sad

I do like a good pie chat. It’s usually me posting all the pie pictures too haha.

As everyone will know the new Arbroath Smokie pie at Gayfield is my favourite. Because we’ve had a couple of away matches I’ve been missing my pie fix. I mean I could just go to the fishmonger that makes them but it wouldn’t be the same.

Our other options for food at the match are mostly other pies. Steak and black pudding pie, steak pie, mince pie (which is really a Scotch pie rather than what people elsewhere would expect of a mince pie), macaroni pie then the non-pie options are a sausage roll or a hot dog. There are also sweets and crisps.

My main issue are the choice of drinks. All their soft drinks have artificial sweeteners which I can’t have but I also have to watch my caffeine intake because of a heart condition so I can’t have the tea or coffee. So I’m left with Bovril (which I don’t like because it’s like drinking runny gravy IMO) or water (not even a nice bottled one, it’s lukewarm tap water usually). That’s why when we did the fan zone bar testing I was straight there. 🤣

ButterPiesAreGreat · 05/10/2025 13:38

@TarkanDS always buys a drink outside the ground in a local shop and takes it in. He usually buys me a drink but he’s away this weekend so I missed out yesterday. I could have bought one but I wanted to get in the SpudBros queue, which was a good decision as I queued for 35 mins. Not doing that every time! Tbf, they were quite distracted by the medical emergency as they are next to The Gentry bar and one of the staff was standing staring for a minute at a time between customers so it could have been quicker.

MiltonRoad · 05/10/2025 13:38

This is my favourite at my adopted local club - along with a Bovril which isn't as easy as it sounds as half the time they have no working water (including in the loos 😱)

x.com/FootyScran/status/1960677325898477673

(It's a foot long sausage roll)

I'm sorry to hear about the fan at PNE

Tarkan · 05/10/2025 13:42

Oh we’re not allowed to take drinks in or I would. Saying that I’ve somehow managed to avoid having a bag check for the last few matches so maybe I should risk it. Even a little hip flask with something I can drink would be ok. 😇

We often have to deal with massive queues for the pies too. Between wanting to get my halftime draw tickets and then a pie you really need to allow half an hour before the match for queuing time then trying to get to my seat without having to make too many people stand up (I’m right in the middle of a row, DH always just goes into the terrace so he doesn’t understand my anxiety of wanting to get to my seat before everyone else gets there, it’s a squash to fit in with how tight the seats are as it is).

Kind of Declan Rice is a local boy to me (hence why DD met him at her prom when he was golfing) and until recently lived round here

West Ham was his second one and the one that gave him the break!

MrsMitford3 · 05/10/2025 14:35

In a slight swerve regarding type of football-my DS has gone to see American football at Tottenham stadium through work. After being at Arsenal yesterday he is having a brilliant weekend!

We have family in America and he has just posted on our chat that the pretzels that they sell there are a huge disappointment.

TheNewGaard · 05/10/2025 16:14

No Invincibles for Palace this season then...

I thought of you straightaway @DuncinToffee !!!

Jack Grealish in the 93rd minute-no one is ever going to leave a match early again!!!!

He def seems to be happy and playing well-huge congrats!

Hellohah · 05/10/2025 17:21

@DuncinToffee and I have Grealish in my FPL team 👍🏻

All this food talk is making me jealous.
Old Trafford is naff for food.
Although it's different round the ground. We sit in the cheapish seats (although not the cheapest) and we have less choice.
I went in the North Stand once for a game and they had Nachos which I was well impressed with. We don't get Nachos 😪

Brefugee · 05/10/2025 17:27

Blimey to. €6.90 for a fish roll! (Hot one)

JasonTindallsTan · 05/10/2025 19:43

Good points for us today, pleased to see Woltemade on the scoresheet again, him getting off to a flyer whilst Isak takes time to get up to speed is just what the doctor ordered. I’m not sure if it was us or the Forest fans that started the ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ chants but the whole ground was definitely singing it at one point… Ange might not see out the international break at this rate.

Came on here to congratulate you!

Had to listen on the radio as was driving. Looking forward to seeing on MOTD!

I have never had any beef with Grealish even when he went to City. Pleased to see him flourishing now that is free from Pep.

To misquote Cyndi Lauper:
‘Some guys take a beautiful player and hide him away from the rest of the woooorld’
