the added on time is only related to VAR insofar as they take stupidly long to determine if something happened or not, IIRC it comes from the States wanting there to be more net playing time (something i have sympathy with)

IMO: if you need a calibrated line to determine offside, it is not offside
If there is a decision to be made between goal/not goal and it takes too long, give in favour of the attacking side
No VAR decision to take longer than 2 minutes

But. I want it gone, it adds nothing to the game

I agree, just have technology to determine if the ball has crossed the line, which is fact not opinion.

Cricket uses technology incredibly well but it is a much slower game so it doesn't matter if they review the inside edge 3 times.
They also can send it back to on field decision which is sensible.

There is/was def technology in use in some places re a chip in the ball.

I think VAR being used for off side when it takes a slide rule and a magnifying glass to see if a shoestring is off is not in the spirit of the game.

Tiswa · 02/10/2025 17:00

the problem is we should be able to quickly see if a ball is handball or not or if someone did get a touch before hand it should be able to eradicate bad decisions

I would like a time rule if within a minute you cannot definitively say an error was made or it should be a certain decision move on. If you cannot see it within that length of time move on.

same with offside

TheNewGaard · 02/10/2025 17:20

I agree. If you can't determine an error within 60 (or maybe even 30) seconds you go with the on field decision.

If someone is offside by a toenail, let's go with whatever the linesman's call is, because it's obviously close enough that it shouldn't really matter.

I always believed that VAR would be a good thing - but that was based on the number of times Thierry Henry was wrongly called offside. The way it's gone is ridiculous.

Maybe if we could get rid of the closed shop of the PGMOL, particularly the odious Howard Webb, it would improve. The way it works in UEFA competitions I would be happy with.

Tiswa · 02/10/2025 20:03

Yes I agree quick check and if can’t decide go with the on field decision. The big things get caught anything you have to spend longer on go with onfield

any Offside not easily decided go with the onfield linesman

Semenyo Doing the business for my FPL. Well done chap!

Me too but also most of the other teams in my leagues had him.

DuncinToffee · 04/10/2025 10:08

Are you the one pushing me back to 2nd place, I have him on my team but not as captain Grin

👀👀🤐

DuncinToffee · 04/10/2025 10:15

I got lucky last week, brought in Semenyo but could only do so by selling 2 players and get in a cheap defender, which was Alderete.

waily waily

5-0 loss to Coventry, and probably at least a 15 point deduction because the wanker owner hasn't paid players and staff. Again.

Tarkan · 04/10/2025 17:05

We watched the end of the game Brefugee and I just felt so much for the fans and the players. They looked so dejected.

2-0 loss for West Ham today, tbh I expected worse so that does show some improvement in the team. If that game had been a few weeks ago it could easily have been 2 or 3 times that I think.

Arbroath were away at Partick Thistle, 1-1 full time so another point at least. Raith are above us in the table and they lost to Ross County who are second bottom so that might help us out a little too LOL.

Just getting back from Old Trafford. Not sure how to cope with the unfamiliar feeling of having trust in the GK!

Saw Troy Deeney walking down near Trafford Bar. He was wearing all white and I was tempted to tell him it would show every mark, but resisted.

TheNewGaard · 04/10/2025 19:27

Excellent weekend for us!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 04/10/2025 19:30

Boooom!! Didnt see that coming!

TheSleepingGiant · 04/10/2025 19:35

Mixed bag here, Spurs beat Leeds and with a Kudus goal to help the FPL. Gillingham - no Ainsworth, no win. Lost 3-2 away, however his heart surgery reportedly went well Smile

TheNewGaard · 04/10/2025 20:03

Of course, when I say "excellent weekend" this is with the caveat of yet another injury. Still running at more than 1 a game...

Rice has got a back injury as well.

What on Earth is he doing down Trafford Bar?! How random!

TheNewGaard · 04/10/2025 22:04

Hopefully they can recover over the interlull.

I feel for you but thanks for Pol Valentin and Michael Smith.

Well, I’m new to this thread. I support PNE who, after avoiding relegation on the last day of last season, have bought in many signings and doing great.
I don’t have a season ticket but I went today on a time credits ticket (free one, earned through volunteering) to watch them play Charlton.

Apart from the medical emergency that happened in the outside bar before the game (which sounded v serious), it was a very satisfying game. Amusing because one of our summer signings came from Charlton and they weren’t happy. The fans think he left for more money which is highly amusing when you’re Preston. They booed him constantly, and kept chanting “one greedy bastard” at him. So it was immensely satisfying for him to score the first goal and he actually celebrated (none of this “I’m a nice bloke, I’m not going to upset anyone here”). And then the chants started “He left cos you’re shit….”. 😂 Also made sure he got a rousing standing ovation when being subbed which pissed the Charlton fans off even more.

Anyway, we’re apparently 4th. This time last year, we were 19th! Happy with that.

I don’t know 😂 Guessed he had been commentating on the match and had parked around there to avoid traffic?

Welcome.

Good on him for celebrating. Not celebrating when scoring against an old team seems to have become a bit performative now.

Maybe abut the whole area is snarled up after a United home game. We go to cricket and have been caught out when matches have clashed (usually Man U friendlies or a county championship game when 8 men and a dog turn up so they don’t take it into account. )
