Levy resigns as Tottenham chairman

I assume he is fed up of the abuse and being blamed for everything or was he pushed?

TheNewGaard · 05/09/2025 00:02

Who will they blame now?

Reports suggest he was ousted, primarily at the instigation of the Lewis family, who are the main owners of the club through a chain of holding companies (Levy's family are a significant but minority shareholder of Enic, one of the companies in the chain).

Thanks, yes, I just read that.

Also, apparently Alex Ferguson refused to deal with Spurs again after they signed Berbetov from Spurs because of the way Levy conducted the negotiations, so they decided to poach Arsenal's best players instead.

Tiswa · 05/09/2025 14:15

Yes they basically accused Manchester United of improper behaviour at approaching him and the rumours were it was to drive up the price!

I think Thomas Frank is seen as beckoning in a new period of being more in control and not all the madness that has come before it so it was time for a change

Oh dear...

Oh Dele 🥹🥹 I hope there’s another route back into professional football for him.

Will be interesting to see who takes over and how that impacts Tottenham’s season and spending habits etc!! Will keep my eyes peeled. I think Levy did well to secure the fab new stadium, to give one example of his achievements, but his refusal to pay competitive salaries to the players rankled IMO.

On @TheNewGaard’s post on the previous page - from 2 Sept at 17.45 - it says that Como have released Dele after one appearance :(

Tiswa · 06/09/2025 13:15

He had such talent Dele Ali but just couldn’t outrun his troubles.

I really hope Rio Ngumoha and Max Dowman are handled in the right way so to make sure they don’t crash and burn - Lamine Yamal is a question mark for me whether he will or not (more in the realm of Best and Gazza)

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2025 13:31

Dele Ali's impact on the Crystal Palace game was so important for us, such a shame indeed.

Agree about Dele Allí :( I realy, really hope he can find a way back into football though, whether that’s via playing or coaching or something else.

I thought the same :/ nothing to write home about. Also, although it’s not that big of a deal, I felt bad for Harry Kane when he missed that chance.

Just come on here to do a little happy dance at the news that Onana is off to Turkey for a season.

TheNewGaard · 07/09/2025 22:50

So Mikel Merino scored a hattrick for Spain today...

Yeah it is probably fairly easy to do when you can be assisted by Pedri and Lamine Yamal (why is he always two names)! England are NOWHERE near the capability of Spain at all. Its only because we are playing the likes of Andorra we aren’t under the same scrutiny as Germany

and rumours of Amanda Staveley for Spurs as a takeover!

TheSleepingGiant · 08/09/2025 08:31

I didn't bother with England game as Bromley v Gillingham derby was on SKY at the same time. Picked the more entertaining game to watch I think, all tickets sold out, although Gills only offered 457 so lots of fans missed out including STHs . Unbeaten in 19 now Smile

I was absolutely appalled that the cheeky bastard asked for a pay rise!

Just watched a video compilation of all his errors as a fitting goodbye.

Bayinder also causes flutters, so hopefully this new fella is a steady, unnerving presence between the posts.

I find the Man Utd choice of goalkeepers weird from the decision to get rid of De Gea I mean why?

to this purchase because no doubt he is a talent but goalkeepers tend to be older you expect to put a shift in being second choice at that age, learning from experience and getting better - and

Trafford if he thought about it is there to learn and get cup games from Donnaruma
Kinsky is there for Vicario
Mamadashvilli and Pesci from Allison

where is the goalkeeper he can learn from?

Ultimately I suspect Amorim and Martinez wouldn’t work which is why that didn’t happen becuase they could have signed both!

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2025 09:04

Pickford was 23 when we signed him

The DDG exit was handled terribly. Offered him a contract and then withdrew it. I thought he was the best shot stopper in the PL despite United’s other woes.

Not a fan of all this sweeper keeper playing out from the back business myself. Onana was purported to be a half GK half MF but turned out to be neither.

I remained open minded for ages, reminding myself how shaky DDG had been to start with. But absolutely delighted that he’s gone now and furious with Erik ten Hag for some of the decisions he made. United having to sub his wages as well.

Was under the impression that Martinez was a difficult deal financially so not the preferred one. Remains to be seen whether saving that cash will cost us in the long run.

Agree there’s no one to learn from in the GK position. Tom Heaton is a reliable stalwart but hadn’t got enough experience of high pressure situations.

Lets see how Lemmens does.

Saw Dear England recently. The actor who plays Pickford embodies him brilliantly. Absolutely nuts!
