I have lost track: did Isak go in the end? And Wissa?

Yes, both went.

DuncinToffee · 01/09/2025 21:29

Fair play to Guehi and Glassner. I think he got a promise for the January transfer

Oh fuck off whoever that is on Sky with his faux outrage about a 37 word Newcastle statement

Are they suggesting we give him a gold plated emotional farewell?

DuncinToffee · 01/09/2025 22:07

Something like that.

I didn't watch much more so they might have said more after that.

Fucking mentalists.

I’m just relieved it’s all over. I naturally hope he flops big time at Liverpool and the rest of his career is plagued by injury (he only played 1 in 3 games for us, missing an entire seasons worth of matches through ‘injury’ so not that unlikely tbf) but I’m just happy Eddie and the rest of the team will no longer have to answer questions about him every time they have a camera in their face.

TheBabyFatmoss · 01/09/2025 22:24

As a Palace fan I feel really conflicted - glad we’re not being left high and dry without Marc or a replacement but so disappointed by the way he’s been treated. It’s all been handled so badly and no doubt he’ll leave on a free transfer and the best manager we’ve ever had probably won’t be hanging around after this clusterfuck either. It’s left such a bad taste in what could have been our most exciting season ever.

I think if I were Guehi Mum I would say Liverpool and Champions League and a run at the Premier League will still be there next season as will Liverpool needing you (as they didn’t sign anyone else) but the chance to be the first captain to take Crystal Palace through a European Campaign is a one off chance and one he should take and do with pride, the fans are I think still behind him because he did nothing wrong and being open about wanting the chance to win the EPL and CL is fine. So take your chance and see what you can do and the join Liverpool with pride either signing in Jan for a fee or for the summer on a free. And ensure and protect his Crystal Palace legacy

I found the statement interesting in the lack of mention of winning the Carabao Cup which is a fact and should be there.

for me it is a clever ploy designed to keep the fans onside and anger directed at Isak (who deserves some of the blame) and deflect again the clubs role in all of this. Because they have handled it all badly (not Eddie Howe by the way or the players)

they need to get a director of football in fast but the question is does anyone want it now after this!

as an aside I just saw the comments on Sky that so much business is being done as the bigger clubs think something is coming given the football act is going through the final stages and guidance and consultation documents are out in October and the financial side is a big thing you do wonder

JasonTindallsTan · 02/09/2025 11:18

They also left out ‘refused to play and cost the team several points at the beginning of the season as a result of his childish behaviour’ so swings and roundabouts. Probs best to keep it neutral.

JasonTindallsTan · 02/09/2025 11:20

I suspect the DoF and CEO are already in place and ready to be announced but in a bid to keep them separate from the clusterfuck that is Isak’s transfer situation it has all been delayed until the closure of the transfer window.

That isn’t to say it shouldn’t have all been sorted long before now. Darren Eales has had cancer for a bloody year, that side of things needs to be managed more professionally.

Brefugee · 02/09/2025 12:12

If you were an ambitious, talented young player at a ‘smaller’ club, what lesson would you learn from this?

everyone who is even tangentially connected to football transfers needs to have this bellowed at them every hour.

Tiswa · 02/09/2025 12:15

I agree but including the winning of the Carabao Cup is a neutral fact that the exclusion of seems pointed and designed to keep fans focussed on Isak and away from their part in it.

I think fan anger is entirely understandable the whole thing was a complete mess and I don’t think Isak/Wissa/Gyokeres handled any of the transfer window well but the clubs involved need to take a long hard look.

or maybe an overhaul of the transfer system as well taking into account judgments and EU laws

Hopefully the international break can reset things

DuncinToffee · 02/09/2025 12:17

Tbf, the Newcastle fans weren't too happy when Everton released a similar statement regarding Gordon.

I just thought the guy on Sky was completely over the top.

Anyway, it's done now.

Our transfer window wasn't too bad - made all the better by admin's amazing announcements

This is my favourite x.com/SouthamptonFC/status/1961443239455596659/mediaViewer?currentTweet=1961443239455596659&currentTweetUser=SouthamptonFC&currentTweet=1961443239455596659&currentTweetUser=SouthamptonFC

Closely followed by the one giving an error screen for Ali Dia 😂😂

Tiswa · 02/09/2025 14:14

Milton road did you see the controversy with that where for the most part the social media accounts don’t do Championship stuff and Fabrizio Romano did so one was ruined!

love Burnley’s as well though the IT one was creepy

Hellohah · 02/09/2025 15:43

Apparently Grimsby fielded an illegible player in the EFL Cup and have been fined £20,000.

United can appeal the decision not to kick them out, I'm sat here hoping that we don't sink so bloody low and leave it be.

Player was registered 1 minute too late, I think a £20k fine is more than enough. I know rules are rules, but this seems a tad strict.

His penalty was saved anyway so it wouldn't have affected the result.

Oh let’s hope they don’t that would not be a sporting decision.

Tiswa · 02/09/2025 16:26

From what I have read Grimsby realised reported it and have been fined. Man Utd were given the right to appeal and wisely haven’t done so the optics wouldn’t be good

burblish · 02/09/2025 17:04

It's being reported that Guehi is unsurprisingly furious that his move to Liverpool was vetoed by Palace. Parish apparently pulled the plug because Glasner threatened to leave if Guehi was allowed to go. Even other Palace players are said to feel the club didn't do right by Guehi. Unpleasant situation all round. Guehi is a good pro and will no doubt get on with it, but the relationship between him and Glasner must surely be affected by this.

I agree.

And Sheffield Wednesday would have knocked them out in the third round in any case, in front of a largely empty stadium given the Wednesday fans are largely boycotting cup games.

Tiswa · 02/09/2025 21:12

Plus the player involved came on in the 73rd minute when it was 2-0 and missed his penalty so hardly added to the win!

oh sorry, that gave me a right old chortle.
Fully expect Grimsby to win that one.
