Very good interview with Andrea Stella there. Very calm and made some good points. He was such a good hire for McLaren.

Why on earth was the flag downgraded from double to single?!

Race direction was a shambles, and unsafe.

Stewarding decisions quite harsh. I'm only able to half listen (DH cutting the roast, would be slightly rude to stop him!), are there recent precedents for ignoring double waved yellows in the race? A penalty was definitely warranted but is it always that severe?

Ant Davison says the penalty was as written, so the stewards had no option.

Some breaches of the rules have defined penalties and on safety grounds they are harsh. Other rule breaches have a range of penalties, depending on severity, and are usually on sporting grounds.

Thanks, fair enough then. You can't compromise on penalties related to safety.

OMG Ocon is not driving in AD, he did a deal so he can do the Haas test.

Good old Flávio doing a deal to get Doohan in the car for one race.

It does explain why Ocon has been so far behind Gasly on track. Lack of upgrades.

Flávio is such a sharp operator.

I'm actually feeling jaded with F1 now, but like Lewis I'm actually looking forward to the end of the season as the bullshit level this year has been way too high. Soon as the powers that be get a sniff of a title battle it all seems to go to shit. Between toxic fans, manipulative press headlines and inconsistent application of penalties. It felt a bit like 2021 all over again.

That was a dreadful race. I hate these new wide flat tracks.
No real racing, too many safety cars, and too many ridiculous penalties.
The wing mirror indeed gave me Massa flashbacks!

@Sulusu you've summed up my feelings perfectly.

Today wasn't a race IMO. It was a sport that doesn't know what it's trying to achieve. I feel that it's so contrived now, but badly done as well.

Joined McLaren n 2015 had good teachers - Ron's mantra no matter what is happening you act like it was always the plan.

I see that Max is not happy with George in the stewards room on Saturday !

He was well brought up as a driver, much of his time he was in the young driver program JB was the lead driver at McLaren.
If Williams can get the car right with JB mentoring Alex and Carlos they could be a great team.
JB has the best bottom in F1 and if he can pass this on it really helps development of the car.

They are my tip for next year.

I thought his comments about Russell being fake were very interesting in light of our discussions about him on this thread. I guess that falseness is ultimately what many of us sense.

Watching Ted's notebook this morning, he seems certain Perez is gone after Abu Dhabi!

Owch. Alpine have confirmed that Doohan is racing in Abu Dhabi not Occon.
They are making out it's to allow him to do a Haas test, but surely he could have done both?

That's really cold. Not to mention that lots of rumours are circulating that despite signing Doohan for next year, he might be dropped for Colapinto instead.

Sounds like standard Flavio Briatore shite. Poor Jack Doohan deserves a proper seat and his contract honoured. I think Occon is probably relieved to be out of there.

It has all the hallmarks of Flávio, but pragmatically for Ocon being released early so he can do the Haas test makes sense.

WRT Perez, I can see him walking away.

RB have an issue as Lawson has not exactly set the world alight on his second go in the VCARB. Yuki deserves the RB drive but for some reason either Marko or Horner don’t want him. I personally wouldn’t put Colapinti alongside Max so who gets the second RB seat?
