Yabbadabbado! Noicely done George! Exemplary win.
Good 1, 2 for Mercedes. Fun race to watch overall.

Poor Pierre Gasly though, I felt really bad for him today after his stellar qualifying.

Verstappen in the limousine made me chuckle, poking all the buttons and being delighted when he found the tray for his water bottle. Off the track I'm warming to him more over time.

From the cold of Vegas to the Quatar heatbox next.

I'm liking Max more this year too :)

D'oh! Woke up just as it ended and completely forgot. Headline on the BBC front page instantly had me thoroughly spoiled. 😂 Just reading now. Delighted for Max, annoyed it wasn't in a race I could watch live. Sounds like Lewis had a great day.

It was a bit of a boring race to be fair. Not much action. Great drive by the Mercedes but nothing particularly exciting happening. I'm jealous that I got up to watch and missed the 3 hours sleep haha!

Ha, thanks.

I would've happily gotten up, but I have little(ish) ones so if I was up, they would've been up and I very much chose sleep. Grin

I think Max off track seems quite down to earth. Clips I have seen with Penelope, Kelly’s daughter, show a really kind person. What I don’t like is his on track tactics, he is in Schumacher, Senna territory and that tarnishes his image. Subsequent sad history has led to the sanitisation of this part of their achievements.

Lewis, possibly because he is the only black driver, is a cleaner racer. I think Anthony knew Lewis had to be above board or would be punished more harshly and so made sure Lewis fought cleanly.

DC has said he considers Lewis separately because he is a clean driver. MB and others say the same.

I just want to see Lewis in a good Ferrari next year.

I was awake for the start, watched in bed for about 5 laps and then snoozed until about lap 35 and then watched the rest.

Sounds about right, from your descriptions of the race Grin

YouAreAllMySymmetry · 24/11/2024 11:15

I just finished watching, really enjoyed that race! Nothing terribly exciting happened but Vegas just looks and feels different; at some points the pace was absolutely blistering.

Lewis had a great drive. Really pleased he got Driver of the Day.

That's one reason I am a Lewis fan. He's a very respectful driver to his competitors and they could all learn from him, especially the younger ones who are a bit full of themselves.

Nice to see Mercedes get a 1-2. I thought Max had to finish 2 points clear of Lando to win the championship at this race?

Brazilianadventure · 24/11/2024 15:00

@GrouchyKiwi to be fair Lewis has matured, as they all do, but his racing has always been clean.

Wonder who they would pick for the drivers. Colton Herta would be high on the list as a very popular American driver but he doesn't have a super license currently. They have a year to sort it all out though.

Brazilianadventure · 26/11/2024 09:18

On X there are suggestions of DR and Colapinto. 😂

Oh lord can we give Danny Ric a rest 😂

gingercat02 · 26/11/2024 09:30

😂😂😂😂
Danny Ric just needs to retire (too late for gracefully, but just go, man!)
Colapinto might be a shout.
They are going to want an American to attract more US fans. I know nothing about US drivers

Brazilianadventure · 26/11/2024 16:46

Interestingly Matt & Tommy (P1) think Perez, with his £££ sponsors, maybe an option.

I think a blend of experience and youth, and an American. Colton Herta is a US driver and good shout from @Sulusu.

What is interesting is that apparently the GM/Cadilac bid is based on all the work of the Andretti bid e.g. factories etc. It seems the engine manufacturer name carries more weight commercially. I’m not so sure as Andretti is such an iconic name, particularly in the US.

I recall Toto and Lewis doing an interview where Mercedes had increased its global influence by ££££ since having a Mercedes F1 Team. I wonder how much was Lewis, he brought to F1 a different demographic long before DTS? The question is how many fans go to Ferrari with Lewis. There will be a lot of red at Silverstone.

OP posts:
gingercat02 · 26/11/2024 17:13

Personally, I would have loved the Andretti name for a team. I've watched F1 since forever and loved Mario as a little kid. He is still on the board.
I suppose a Caddy on the grid will draw in the US crowd.
Never thought of Checo and his Mexican money.
Logan Sargent has a SL obviously 🤣

Sulusu · 26/11/2024 20:33

It's going to be weird next year as a Mercedes fan with Lewis no longer there, but I have supported the team from their Brawn days. I'm not going to stop now despite being a Lewis fan too. He has chosen to leave and I hope he does well at Ferrari and gets that 8th title, but I won't be wearing red. I will be supporting Merc and Williams like I have done for many years. F1 championships for me are more about the team than just the driver.

It helps that I also really like George, Carlos and Alex. And Kimi Antonelli seems like a good egg from watching F2.

I also feel relief that the toxic Lewis fans who abuse Merc employees on social media will probably switch to Ferrari now.

Brazilianadventure · 26/11/2024 23:07

I’m first an F1 fan and have my own weird hierarchy of who I support, cheering on the underdogs when they do well.

However, I have supported Lewis from day 1 and will until he retires.

OP posts:
MercedesLeftWheelNut · 27/11/2024 09:45

Same for me @Brazilianadventure - I just love seeing good racing and love seeing the underdogs get their time in the sun occcasionally. So long as a race is interesting and we've seen some good skills, I feel like it was successful.

But there's something about watching for a long time that makes you softer on the drivers (and teams) you've been watching longer and so I also love seeing Lewis do well. I think he's mentally come a long way from his early days and is a great ambassador for the sport and for fair play.

mydogisthebest · 27/11/2024 09:58

I used to sometimes see Lewis when he was karting and one of my friends (who was a marshall at Brands Hatch) said she thought he would end up a F1 champion. How right she was.

I have always supported him and always will no matter who he drives for. I really really want to see him win his rightful 8th championship

Sulusu · 27/11/2024 10:06

I'm still angry about Abu Dhabi 21 and want him to get that 8th title. Ferrari has a positive trajectory now leading into 2025 so maybe he can get the 8th title he should have had in 2021.

Brazilianadventure · 27/11/2024 11:10

I just want Lewis to get his 8th and in red would be the right and perfect way to end his career.

Plus it would piss off Bernie, Ben Sulayem etc.
