Normal service from Max.

I really think if McLaren had played the team game there was a chance for one of them to win. It’s much harder to overtake if you are also trying to defend.

At least the field is closer but tomorrow could be one long boring DRS train.

Still not sure if I like the spring format. That length of race feels so dissatisfying.

I can't take to Lando. He's like a sulky teenager and his reaction over the line last week was really bad. You win one race and then suddenly second is crap. Great motivation for all those people working hard for you back at the factory.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 29/06/2024 12:00

He's just very very hard on himself.

Brazilianadventure · 29/06/2024 13:09

@Brazilianadventure i actually think Lando not being happy is good and fairly normal for racing drivers because they need that drive to win. Without it they wouldn’t make it to F1.

I would love to see Piastri with a win, I think he'll edge out Lando over the years, he drives with flair I think.

Brazilianadventure · 29/06/2024 21:39

I would love anyone but Max to win.

Well that was an interesting race!

Brazilianadventure · 30/06/2024 17:13

I got my wish Max didn’t win.

Just got back home so I’ve not seen the race, planning to watch the highlights after Ted’s notebook - Ted appears to have got soaked in champagne.

I gather Max has again done a Max. So I will watch with interest.

Sulusu · 30/06/2024 17:27

So happy for George!

That crash looked a lot more like 2021 Verstappen to me. Overall a decent race to watch.

Roll on Silverstone!

Brazilianadventure · 30/06/2024 18:51

Finished the highlights.

Max really was driving very defensively and breached the rules.

Andreas Stella wasn’t a TP in 2021 but he is right everyone then was saying Max oversteps the rules and it’s up to the FIA to make it clear it’s not on. I wonder if they will take further action after they have reflected on the race.

George drove well and I’m really pleased for him. I know he doused Ted in champagne but then offered him his shower which was really thoughtful.

Other good drives Oscar, Nico and K Mag. DR seems to be getting on top of the car.

How did Max still beat Checo? I do think RB are in danger of losing the constructors championship.

So looking forward to Silverstone. @Sulusu am I correct you are going? If so have a fantastic weekend with hopefully a close race.

Wow. 5th different race winner this year. After Bahrain, I'd kind of written off this season and it's turning into a right ding dong. Can't wait for Silverstone! I'm going to Belgium so I hope Max's lead has been a bit diminished by then.

Yes I am.Im very excited! First time at Silverstone for me. Just going for Sunday though. There seems be so much on I'm wishing I was there for Saturday as well so you have time to do things like the Museum.

Brazilianadventure · 30/06/2024 22:09

@Sulusu I bet the museum
will be packed on race weekend.

Just enjoy the atmosphere as there is quite a lot going on around the track on Sunday.

I hope it’s a good race for you.

I was spoiled by seeing the start of posts on this thread on Threads I'm On (every single week, I need to cop on Grin) and spent about 50 laps wondering if I'd completely misinterpreted what I'd seen. Grin

Well I like Max and Lando and don't like Russell at all so much as it was eventful I could be happier! Still, good to see how close McLaren are to Red Bull.

DH and I were just saying the same about Checo @Brazilianadventure. I know they've resigned him but he's surely at risk. Racing the Haases and still behind his teammate after a collision, puncture and penalty...

RobynRB · 30/06/2024 23:14

That was crushingly inevitable, I guess they won't be friends any more...

But this is nothing new. All 'great' racing drivers at some point will be challenged and when they are they tend to become aggressive. Let's not forget, everyone thinks the sun shines out of Senna's backside but he wasn't above thumping people.

CelesteCunningham · 30/06/2024 23:25

Yeah exactly, I don't think it's a big deal. Good hard racing will tend to stray over the line at times. More to come please.

Lostworlds · 30/06/2024 23:28

I’d love to join this thread but must admit I’m a bit of a Max fan 😅

Looking forward to Silverstone next week. I went for the whole weekend a few years ago and the experience was amazing!

elessar · 01/07/2024 08:18

People saying 2021 Max is back, he never left! Just nobody was close enough to see it for a long time. Andrea Stella is absolutely spot on, he's been allowed to get away with overly aggressive driving for a long time and it was inevitable this would happen. The team encourage him too, so he never gets pulled up on anything and he never admits he was in the wrong.

Even the penalty he got made no difference whatsoever.

I think this was a hard but necessary lesson for Lando today. It's all been good fun and games so far, and he hasn't until now been on the sharp edges of Max's elbows. To be honest, as much as Max was in the wrong, Lando needs to improve his wheel to wheel racing if he wants to beat him. He was all over the track (hence the track limits penalty) and his pass attempts were unsubtle.

To get past Max, particularly given his aggressive defence, you've got to be smarter than that. Leclerc is a master at wheel to wheel racing Verstappen. It's something Lando is going to have to learn.

Actually overall I quite enjoyed the outcome - it was nice to have a bit of spice and it will be interesting to see how this affects the dynamics of the battle at the front.

I wasn't around for the Senna days, but watched the documentary about him and thought he seemed not that nice!

Happy for George although he's not one of my faves and sort of won by default. The variety is good though, and nice to see Max get a bit rattled.

CosFuckThatGuy · 01/07/2024 08:54

Agree @elessar Lando's attempts to get round Max were clumsy and easily spotted a mile off.

Senna's death canonised him and wrecked Prost's own impressive legacy.

RobynRB · 01/07/2024 09:07

I'm actually pleasantly surprised to see that most of the comments on the Formula 1 websites are quite balanced. It seems Lando needs to learn the difference between moving under braking and braking while driving straight (but not pointing straight ahead). It's a subtle distinction, but that's Max's defence, he didn't move his wheel to the left and I think he left just about enough room on the left for Lando. If this wasn't Max I'm sure it would have been a 'racing incideint', in fact it seems similar things happened between Hamilton and Sainz in previous years, without the punctures.

LookItsMeAgain · 01/07/2024 09:45

I'm surprised that it's taken this long for the Verstappen veneer to slip.
I really thought he'd gotten to grips with his anger management but clearly not. The slightest poking of the bear and lo and behold, he returns to what he knows best.

Delighted that another driver won but these races are terribly predictable (apart from the final 10 laps as was the case yesterday) and unless something happens to Max, he's going to be the de facto winner each race. Even when they are close to over taking him, the tracks tend not to allow easy overtaking and you end up in a DRS train.

I hope the British GP gives us an entertaining weekend.

The following 7 drivers still don't have a seat at the end of this season:
Carlos Sainz
Daniel Ricciardo
Logan Sargeant
Kevin Magnussen
Esteban Ocon
Zhoy Guanyu
Valterri Bottas

Where do you think these drivers will go?

Do you think there is a driver on the grid with a contract for 2025 or beyond that doesn't deserve their seat?
