You do wonder who is in charge of recruitment, that was always likely to be a dodgy one...

In what respect? It wasn’t that crazy a move given AC Milan needed the cash and we were in the champions league.

And one has to assume it was Dan Ashworth who sealed the deal who is on gardening leave because he wants to defect to Man U 18 months after joining ‘the project’.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 28/03/2024 19:52

If you're going to take a risk on someone who has form, surely you have to have some minders on him to make sure he doesn't do the same again. You're not going to be able to give him away now.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 28/03/2024 22:34

What do you mean has got form? No one was aware that he had a gambling problem until he was a Newcastle player. He wasn’t charged by the Italian FA until after the move.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 28/03/2024 22:39

Tonali was already banned for 10 months for betting offences whilst in Italy.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 28/03/2024 22:51

Yeah but they didn’t come to light until he was in the UK, he’s serving the ban currently and has been since October. He’s not available for selection until 27th August.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 29/03/2024 00:25

OK, fair enough. Although it still suggests they haven't looked closely enough.

Brefugee · 30/03/2024 09:41

i think all advertising and sponsorship of and by betting companies should be banned in sport. Any sport.

And any approach by a betting company to any player should be something they report, or they are immediately banned from the game for a year. this is one of my footballing hills.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 30/03/2024 11:45

I couldn’t agree more @Brefugee, it’s always seemed incongruent that someone who has admitted and accepted they have an overwhelming addiction in an industry that is propped up by gambling gets banned rather than supported. Particularly where their bets have not had the potential to impact the games in which they played. (Betting on your own team to win I would argue is actually not an issue).

Tarkan · 30/03/2024 12:20

Guess who is ill again and won't be at Gayfield today. All thanks to watching my friend's toddler. She dropped him off knowing he was ill and he coughed all over me for the whole day.

We have a match on Tuesday night too so I'm hoping I can make that one.

MrsMitford3 · 30/03/2024 14:18

Anyone watching newcastle west ham?

If I were a West Ham fan I would be incandescent over that penalty.
Actually it appears I am anyway.

Tarkan · 30/03/2024 14:20

I'm watching and defo wasn't happy with that. It's hard to shout at the TV with a swollen sore throat but I somehow managed it. Blush

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 30/03/2024 15:39

Well I for one am over the moon. Tbf I haven’t watched it back and it was at the opposite end of the pitch to me but West Ham should never have been allowed to play on with Schar down with a head injury which led to their 2nd goal so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Oblomov24 · 30/03/2024 17:28

What a Newcastle come back. Spurs finally won. Watching Villa now.

TheSleepingGiant · 30/03/2024 17:36

Glad we got over the line, another excellent performance from Brennan Johnson. Goal number 160 for Sonny, puts him in Spurs top 5 scorers.

Bore draw at Gills v Crewe yesterday, Crewe set up for a point and got it with a lot of help from the officials. Still, other results went our way and we are once again in the play-off places.

Hope you feel better soon @Tarkan and are well enough to attend Tuesday's game.

DuncinToffee · 30/03/2024 18:50

Shitshow, 12 games without a win. No clue what Dyche is doing but he was right when he said Everton doesn't know how to win.

Should have had a penalty though

Happy Easter all Easter Wink

OK, starting to feel nervous now...

AndNobbyDancing · 31/03/2024 15:32

Sorry to hear about Lascelles.

Bournemouth were lucky.

Things all a bit exciting in the Championship again. Despite being a Saints fan I'd like to see Ipswich promoted

Two ruptured ACL’s in the space of a week to two centre backs. You couldn’t write out injuries this season.

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2024 15:41

Something has to change with the number of matches in a short space of time, the amount of injuries accross the leagues is ridiculous.

You'd think that Jesus would be able to hit the net today of all days...

Westfacing · 31/03/2024 18:28

Good draw - for us Might Reds!

Mighty Reds that should be!

MrsMitford3 · 31/03/2024 18:34

I did laugh when I saw Jesus trending on twitter and it wasn't about the one playing football 😂

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 31/03/2024 19:31

I would have brought on Martinelli sooner (as would most of my twitter feed). Although I would have loved to have nicked a winner, I don't think we would have deserved it, but a draw was a fair result. Saliba put Haaland back in his pocket where he belongs.

And credit where it's due, I thought the ref had a pretty good game today, keeping his cards in his pocket. I did think he gave a few free kicks the wrong way, but otherwise I thought he did well.
