@Tavannach

I'm Scottish and so disappointed in how the Scots have behaved!! Absolutely rubbish and such bad sportsmanship.

Eh?
What you on about?
The Scottish fans were delighted to be taking part in a major tournament and were well behaved.

A few guys with tiny carrier bags didn’t even touch the sides of the mess they made. Even Rangers fans turned up to George Square to help with the mess the next day.
Wakeupin2022 · 12/07/2021 01:01

That is pure speculation and typical Scottish xenophobic tripe!

You've shown your true colours and it ain't pretty......

Haha I take it you are completely unaware of the Scottish fans being investigated for breaching the hate crime bill for their anti- English behaviour, and didn’t see the destruction in London made by some Scotland fans!! Let’s not pretend any country doesn’t have its own share of idiots that spoil it for true fans. Football is just an excuse for thugs, none of them are true fans but they wear shirts of all colours unfortunately
caringcarer · 12/07/2021 01:15

I was really hoping England would win but Italy played better tonight. They kept procession and drained the energy out of our defenders. I felt sorry for Grealish. He came on and tried to make chances but got stamped on with studs which must be very painful. Pickford was good tonight too.

DoucheCanoe · 12/07/2021 01:20

@Fandangoes I'm not "typical" Scottish anything... I'm a British England fan and started earlier that Andy Murray doesn't represent Scotland in tournaments 🤦‍♀️

Out of curiosity though, what does one have to do to be "typically" Scottish?!

Sorry I wasn’t calling you a typical Scottish anything - I meant the complaint about ‘if A day Murray was English the commentators would be celebrating an English win but because he is Scottish they are calling it a British win! Is typical of the Scottish xenophobic tripe I have to listen to regularly - by a lot of Scottish people but not all Scottish people. As you rightly pointed out he representing the UK so they rightly refer to him as the British champion. I’m not aware of any English player being referred to as the English champion when they have won a competition representing the UK but I’m happy to be corrected if anyone can prove that case. And there is the occasional ignorant person that says England when they mean UK but that’s usually from people out with the UK or uneducated people that simply need to be corrected.

Tavannach · 12/07/2021 01:52

Nope, I saw no bad behaviour from the Scottish fans.
I live in central London and there were a lot of Scottish fans in the pubs around Paddington that day. They were cheery and well-behaved.

Obviously if you didn’t see it with your own eyes it didn’t happen. You must have had a hard time keeping tabs on tens of thousands of them .
DoucheCanoe · 12/07/2021 01:58

Fair enough.

I saw posts on here a few days ago about people disliking the football but like to watch the "English team" in the Olympics.

It does get tiresome having to remind people that England does not equal Great Britain.

It's not about being the English champion but recognised as a champion Englishman representing Team GB rather than just being a Team GB winner if that makes sense?

Tavannach · 12/07/2021 01:59

Nor did I see it reported anywhere, nor hear hear of it from anyone else.

Fandangoes · 12/07/2021 02:05

Here’s a newspaper headline for you Tavannach - there were many more. I’m sure the majority of Scottish fans were perfectly behaved, as were the majority of English fans.

Scotland football fan shame as foul-mouthed, anti-English video sparks urgent police probe

ParaCattie · 12/07/2021 07:50

Those penalties at the end! Gutting for the player who missed them.

Well, it's not coming home this time, that's for sure.

I wonder what the fans who mocked the young Germany girl for crying felt last night?

You seem to have very strong opinions about Scots but you clearly don't get it do you! What you say above is completely wrong. You don't need to get it you are not Scottish after all, but perhaps take the rhetoric you spout down a notch unless you actually know what you are on about.

Did you raise your eyes when Southgate referred to England as an Island? Do you raise your eyes when a non insignificant amount of English people refer to the UK as England. Nope, I don't suppose you do, but you claim Scots are typically Xenophobic! Yeah OK then.........

Fandangoes · 12/07/2021 08:26

Don’t misquote me - I did not say Scots are typically xenophobic, I said that a specific comment was typical of Scottish xenophobia that some people come out with. You clearly don’t get it - try being English living in Scotland. It is frustrating when people confuse England with the Uk but I do t agree that that’s a significant amount of people and it’s not done with deliberate malice. English people do not hate Scotland

boireannach · 12/07/2021 08:44

@rach2713
Your childish semi literate post shows Scottish people in a bad light, far better to have said nothing at all. It’s made me embarrassed to be a fellow Scot.

Your sentence makes me smile because in the USA I was asked if was a Brit. I replied, "Yes, I'm English", which made the questioner smile. I was being accurate! (This is just an aside.)

Foobydoo · 12/07/2021 09:44

@TracyBeakerSoYeah

No Gareth Southgate should not step down. He's one of the very few England managers to get us this far. I mean look at the managers we had before & the lacklustre England squad with John Terry, Wayne Rooney, even David Beckham, far too busy chasing women & cheating on their other halves, spending money like no tomorrow etc, This England squad & their manager are a credit to our nation. I think the only other manager who could have got us this far would have been Cloughie but unfortunately he was marmite, upset too many people & could be an absolute pain in the neck at times but he was genuine & cared probably the greatest manager England never had.
I agree with this. A totally different England team under Southgate. And no mention of WAGs. It was refreshing that it was all about the football.
Fandangoes · 12/07/2021 09:51

I totally agree the team did amazingly well and it was extremely refreshing not to have all the wag nonsense. One team had to lose and go hone disappointed. Italy deserved to win. There’s always next year, hopefully England AND Scotland will both do well and build on how far they managed to come this year.

Fandangoes · 12/07/2021 09:54

And it would be brilliant if Wales and Ireland could also be in the World Cup - I’m not leaving them out. I would love to see them all getting that far

Chanel05 · 12/07/2021 11:50

I think the really prevalent thing throughout was that no player was bigger than the tournament. They worked as a team and supported each other so well. I thought Saka showed real sportsmanship not to react too much when he was pulled backwards by his collar. Thinking not too far back around the likes of the Rooney era and before, that would have potentially caused a huge ruckus, row, pushing and shoving, and completely distracted the focus of the game.
