Well done to Italy looks like they are taken it home and the English have to go to work at normal time lol...

But forcing fouls is part of the tactics of the game

Yet I bet his Mum still told him off for making a fuss.

Grin love that.
I would have a word to say to my boy if he did headers like Maguire.

PiuVinoPerFavore · 12/07/2021 00:15

@HidingFromTheChildren reported.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/07/2021 00:15

And Jack Grealish another great player & good bloke can have a tendency to flounce a bit.
Probably their young age but like I said earlier they are far better man than the likes of Terry, Giggs, Rooney etc

OppsUpsSide · 12/07/2021 00:15

Let’s not quote the bile hey

OppsUpsSide · 12/07/2021 00:16

Jack Grealish is a pro at forcing fouls

Hannsmum · 12/07/2021 00:16

@MimiDaisy11

I’m not English but penalties are always a cruel way to decide it. Feel sorry for those who missed. I don’t think they should have had someone so young take the last deciding one though. Poor guy.
Feel exactly the same. The pressure would have been too much for them

Even Italy's very good penalty player was the one that missed theirs

Fandangoes · 12/07/2021 00:17

@Wakeupin2022

Fandnagoes

I don't condone the OP - she is bang out of order.

But really it can be extremely OT in the England / BBC camp.

There's support for a home nation and then there is the last 55 years when you are a non English Brit........

But none of the other nations have had a win for them to talk about - what do you want them to do?! And if they get knocked out of the competition earlier they are bound to get less airtime. I would guarantee that if England got knocked out and any of the other British teams got through to the final the BBC would be all about that team. And I actually think the majority of English fans would be right behind them.
Hdhdjejdj · 12/07/2021 00:17

England were fantastic on and off the pitch. It no mean feat to get to a final and take it to penalties. In the end Italy’s experience won the day.

Wakeupin2022 · 12/07/2021 00:17

They can’t put a lot of air time into a team that aren’t in the tournament though can they? I don’t think that imperialism. Or have I misunderstood?

You have misunderstood.

It's built up and built up. Watching a game from Glasgow (same commentators) it's just a wee bit different mood......i am not talking about tonight. I wanted England to win tonight. I am just mentioning that 55 years of really poor commentary has made many Scots no longer wish England well. I very much suspect in 66 there were a large number of Scots who did wish England well (assumption as I wasn't born)

Geamhradh · 12/07/2021 00:17

@chaosrabbitland

im english , but im glad italy won , it was humiliating to watch the scenes at in london of arrests , half dressed men . litter everywhere , its an embarresment ,i dont feel any sense of patriotism at all and havent for years now .
If you'd like to pop over here to Italy, Italian thugs are burning cars, smashing shop windows and my daughter has been warned not to tell anyone she's half British. I have already blocked 5 people who have sent me abusive messages on WA and social media (3 of whom are fellow work colleagues) and I've reported a FB page making death threats to Prince George. (it's an Italian FB professional group for teachers) But crack on with the "aren't the English the worst" trope.
OppsUpsSide · 12/07/2021 00:18

Ah sorry @Wakeupin2022 totally get that

DoucheCanoe · 12/07/2021 00:20

Oh look, the OP has name changed @HidingFromTheChildren 🙄🤣

Some of the England players may have taken a dive but that doesn't even compare to Saka blatantly being yanked from his feet by the scruff of his shirt! Lots of dirty and aggressive tactics from Italy but that was by far the worst.

@Wakeupin2022 when one of the other home nations achieves anywhere near what the England team have then I'm sure we'll hear about that too but at present there's really nothing to talk about!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/07/2021 00:21

As I said he's a bit over dramatic & flouncy at times is Grealish but I think he'll grow out of that with maturity & a better sense of self.
He seems a little unconfident underneath all that bluster.

JedEye · 12/07/2021 00:22

It really could have gone either way. Unfortunate for England but so so close. Their fans should be proud of them, not ripping them apart.

Fandangoes · 12/07/2021 00:22

1966 was proof that it’s possible a team from our little nation can win, if it had been ANY of the teams the commentators would still have been talking about it. What do you want them to do not mention it because the other teams are jealous it wasn’t them and they have never managed it!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/07/2021 00:23

That's absolutely disgusting what you are experiencing @Geamhradh especially considering Italy have won.

An AS shows that the racist poster is pretty alt right on most threads they post on and earlier this month when there was a thread about a soldier not being prosecuted for murder in N Ireland commented "well, it was a long time ago". Hopefully they'll need more than a namechange to get round their ban from MN.
OppsUpsSide · 12/07/2021 00:25

Andy Murray became British when he won Wimbledon..

Because people within his nation embraces his win rather than put the boot in..
