Oh Ego, thank you. You've taken me back! I was at that very match to see Jonah unleash his magic. We'd flown down to Cape Town from Durban for the day and couldn't believe the euphoria - or what we were seeing. 20 years! And now DD is off to watch Wales/Fiji in a couple of weeks. She's hoping that George North can do a Jonah in Twickers too. Good luck to everyone and their teams!

confusedandemployed · 19/09/2015 07:41

Well that was hardly a glittering showpiece to start the thing off.

England were poor and helped by a ref who refused to pull them up on ruck infringements, a knock on which should have disallowed one try and as for that eventually disallowed Fiji try...I have watched an awful lot of rugby over the past 38 years or so and I have never seen that happen. It just shouldn't and was cowardly refereeing.
All that aside, England were never going to lose that match, but a bonus point flatters them I think.
As a Welsh supporter I'm a bit less worried about England and a bit more worried about Fiji. But we need referees with the balls to actually referee England (and Ireland and New Zealand for that matter).

LovelyFriend · 19/09/2015 09:47

The try reversal was really confusing. I'd never seen it before either, but I only tend to watch big games.

Moln · 19/09/2015 10:52

It's TV3 commentary. You're not missing much!!

gingercat02 · 19/09/2015 14:21

I have an empty house and Guinness. Anyone with me? Shamrock

OP posts:
muddlingalongquitenicely · 19/09/2015 14:33

No Guinness but a cup of tea watching the game. Looking forward to watching Ireland even though i am Wales supporter.

Moln · 19/09/2015 14:48

Cup if tea here.

Have to confess to being slightly visual confused and have to remind myself (as a frequency far to frequent to confess) that it's not Wales v Ireland in the Six Nations!!!

gingercat02 · 19/09/2015 14:52

It's a bit weird, Ireland are starting to pick the pace up a bit. I was worried in the first 10 mins they were taking Canada for granted

OP posts:
FakaP · 19/09/2015 14:55

I got similarly confused yesterday with England in red! Looking forward to a good game. Can't help but wonder how the Canadian players cope with the big bushy beards, surely it's pulled and tweaked constantly..

CordeliaFrost · 19/09/2015 15:09

Supporting Canada today, so come on you Canucks, get some points on the board at least!

gingercat02 · 19/09/2015 15:09

Why is the roof closed. Is the weather bad in Cardiff? It's lovely here.

OP posts:
CordeliaFrost · 19/09/2015 15:12

Ginger - got a friend at the game, she said the weather was fine, but that was a little bit earlier.

Tiredemma · 19/09/2015 15:13

DP and DS1 at Twickenham tonight for France v Italy.

theredjellybean · 19/09/2015 15:17

What is that england kit ??? looked like nasty wipe clean plastic fabric on front and awful odd shade of maroon shorts....why are they not in white ????
what colour is wales going to play in then ????
I have dual nationality ...english and australian and have drawn fiji in office sweepstake..its very confusing , esp as my DF and DD support wales.
My dd's build a bear has had lit made by my DM for all the teams and is having multi changes today..poor teddy !

theredjellybean · 19/09/2015 15:17

had heard all matches roof will be shut at cardiff :(((

gingercat02 · 19/09/2015 15:25

That's nuts about the roof, must be for fairness Hmm England were in their away strip last night theredjellybean I think it's politeness as the host team. I presume Wales will be in red as usual.

OP posts:
CordeliaFrost · 19/09/2015 15:25

Oh really redjellybean - that's disappointing.

Your post about dual nationality makes me think of one of my friends, who is English born with an English father, but her mum is Fijian. She isn't a dual national, as Fiji doesn't allow dual citizenship, but she still has an emotional attachment to Fiji. She felt very conflicted last night!

theredjellybean · 19/09/2015 15:26

thankyou...i rarely get to watch as work weekends and follow either radio commentry or telegraph txt feed...its bloody dreadful strip....i had red visions of wales and england all red everywhere...aghhhh....but then i had been on the red wine so it was all getting a bit silly ...

theredjellybean · 19/09/2015 15:30

for all those struggling with dual nationality or similar ...here is red's thinking:

  1. support england above all others...so if england playing australia support england
  2. if australia playing anyone else ...support australia
  3. support fiji as sweepstake team if not playing above two
  4. support anyone who is playing wales...

easy....( i have english rugby supporters inbred instinct to hate the welsh)

my dd who also has dual nationality either swaps jerseys and support at half time, or will support whichever out of england/australia or wales is winning if they are playing each other ...fickle child !
her teddy gets kitted out depending on how she is feeling on the day !

Moln · 19/09/2015 15:37

What the heck did O'Connell do to get sin binned?

CordeliaFrost · 19/09/2015 15:39

My system is...

  1. Support England first and foremost, above all other teams.
  2. Support USA in all their games
  3. Support Canada in all their games (as paternal grandmother is Canadian).
  4. Support other home nation teams if they're not playing any of the above.
  5. Cheer on whoever is playing Argentina.
theredjellybean · 19/09/2015 15:47

cordelia - just out of polite interest ( old fashioned nosiness) what have you got against argentina ?

CordeliaFrost · 19/09/2015 16:02

It's to do with an ex-boyfriend.

gingercat02 · 19/09/2015 16:04

No idea Moln I was bringing the washing in and missed the restart Blush
Glad everyone else has a "system" Mine is Ireland always, then Scotland then Wales. Not fussed after that generally support who ever is playing England
