Ohh I have been looking forward to this - rugby is one of my favourite sports.

The weather looks atrocious at Twickenham tonight!

Must be so amazing to be there.
Fiji going to do their challenge - drowned out by Swing Low!

LovelyFriend · 18/09/2015 20:01

I'm about 10 miles from Twick - dry here.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2015 20:03

Posted too soon - whoever is singing those snippets of World In Union before the ad breaks is appalling - 6 weeks of listening to her off key sliding around the notes - urgh.

And AIBU to think that the crowd should have stopped singing whilst Fiji did the Cibi?

MrsTrentReznor · 18/09/2015 20:06

There was a debate a while ago about singing during the NZ haka. Apparently the kiwis saw if as appropriate as it's a show of strength and the singing is contesting that.
Or something like that.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2015 20:09

Well - the Twickenham crowd are definitely winning the singing!

It's rather geeky, but one of the reasons I enjoy the rugby World Cup is because I love national anthems - I get the words up and try to join in. Some of them are really stirring, or tear jerking, and others sound like they were written by Gilbert and Sullivan (Italy, I am looking at you), and Argentina's national anthem has the longest introduction I have ever come across for a song, so they only get the full thing when playing at home - otherwise they get a very abbreviated version.

CordeliaFrost · 18/09/2015 20:10

It's Paloma Faith singing it.

I'm usually a fan of hers, but her voice does not suit WIU.

Luckystar1 · 18/09/2015 20:12

I've been to a few matches in Stadio Olympico. The Italian anthem is AMAZING in real life. The Italian fans are great!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2015 20:16

I didn't mean to imply I don't like the Italian anthem - on the contrary, I agree, it is great. Sorry.

Luckystar1 · 18/09/2015 20:18

Oh sorry I may have misinterpreted, it is a bit 'theatrical' I agree!!

But sung with gusto with a plume of smoke being blown in your face, it sounds just right!!

Good start by England.

Dachshund · 18/09/2015 20:22

I've found my people! Following England all the way here Smile My dad is the one who got me into rugby and I've not watched for years - all the greats I remember are now the pundits!

gingerdad · 18/09/2015 20:23

#shouldertoshoulder. Come on Fiji.

Luckystar1 · 18/09/2015 20:27

Ffs how many times are they going to blow up this much? Too many laws now, just get on with it!

LovelyFriend · 18/09/2015 20:28

I like this yellow card 10 minute sin bin. Football could learn something from this.

MrsTrentReznor · 18/09/2015 20:29

TRY!!! Nice! SmileWine

LovelyFriend · 18/09/2015 20:29

Try!

LovelyFriend · 18/09/2015 20:30
