This is the feedback thread for the 11 Mumsnetters who attended an exclusive DFS event in London to be matched to their ideal sofa.

Here’s what DFS has to say: “We know that choosing a sofa that’s right for you is something which everyone wants to get right, but it can sometimes feel like a challenge. At DFS, we have nearly 50 years of experience designing and hand-making sofas and want to make the sofa buying process as simple as possible. ‘Match Made at DFS’ was a chance for Mumsnetters to see how simple sofa shopping can be, when you consult those in the know.

On Wednesday 19th July we invited 12 Mumsnetters along to be ‘Match Made’ to their ideal sofa. During the match making process the Mumsnetters and DFS sofa experts chatted in detail about their sofa requirements. From colour and style, to product protection and financing, the Mumsnetters put the know-how of the DFS experts to the test. At the end of the match making process, the Mumsnetters were given the chance to choose the right sofa to meet their needs and suit their lifestyle.”

See the DFS 'match-making' process in action with their 'Ultimate Sofa Buying Guide' video here:

Attendees, please answer the following questions on your experience at the event

  • What did you enjoy most about the ‘Match Made’ event?
  • Do you think that DFS has a good selection of sofas?
  • What did you think of DFS before attending the event?
  • Did your view of DFS change after attending the ‘Match Made’ event?
  • Would you recommend DFS to a friend after attending the ‘Match Made’ event?

Non-attendees, please answer the following question to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

  • What do you think is the most important thing to remember when buying a sofa?

Thanks and good luck!

  1. I enjoyed having time to try out the different sofas and speak to an expert in a non time pressured environment.
  2. I thought there was a great range of sofas to look at, and, having since browsed the DFS website, I was even more impressed at just how many different sofas they have on offer.
  3. I was fairly neutral about them pre event, have never purchased anything for them but did think they seemed to always have a sale on!
  4. Yes my view changed for the positive.
  5. I would recommend it as somewhere to look, but like previous posters, owning a sofa is the only true way to be able to recommend something as its only when it's in your house permanently that you really form an opinion on whether it is a great product or not.

Non-attendee:

Size for sure, i've had an issue with getting a sofa through my front porch before. Had to take the feet off in the end and with a great deal of force we got it in.

albemaas · 08/08/2017 18:03

What do you think is the most important thing to remember when buying a sofa?

How easy will it be to keep clean?

teddygirlonce · 08/08/2017 18:06

Non-attendee - is it really comfortable and is it practical (can covers be washed/replaced)?

Lisapaige24 · 08/08/2017 18:12

NON ATENDEE
Comfort and Quality is the most important thing to remember when buying a sofa

Ferryfairy · 08/08/2017 18:18

Not too low, I don't want to have to climb out of it

giddyypixie · 08/08/2017 18:23

As a non attendee, we have just gone through the process of buying a new sofa for our new house! Initially, I thought price would be the most important thing but in the end it was size and quality (ended up being one of the most expensive ones!). Because we had a very specific area to fit it in that narrowed it down to about 2 sofa's across 4 different retailers and we chose the one we felt was the best quality leather that would last the longest and justify the amount we spent on it!

The most important thing is function and how will you use it, will it be suitable for lounging on and not worrying about making sure the cushions are constantly needing attention by plumping them up and making sure the size and colour fit your room.

Dangermouse80 · 08/08/2017 18:30

Non tester. For us the level of comfort is key - ultimately could I relax and fall asleep on it!

jacqui5366 · 08/08/2017 18:30

What do you think is the most important thing to remember when buying a sofa?

Whether it is easy to clean, my current sofa has zip off covers, and I wash them around every 3 months or so, it keeps it looking fresh and clean, and when it has had a multitude of food/drink/nose spillages it needs it.

I think the most important factor to consider is whether it will still suit our lifestyle in 5+ years. E.g. Washable, durable, large enough for growing family members etc.

nettymay · 08/08/2017 18:35

Size and comfort - small house! Also one my cats will not claw!

Carriemac · 08/08/2017 18:38

Comfort and colour !

Pipstarz41 · 08/08/2017 18:42

Most important thing is being able to flop onto the sofa at the end of a hard day and it be comfortable yet supportive

helly27 · 08/08/2017 18:42

Non Attendee The size definitely a lot of sofas would make my living room look even smaller than it is

OhHolyFuck · 08/08/2017 18:49

For me, absolutely the most important thing is comfort. No point it looking great if it's awful to sit/lounge on, my sofa is my treat and my downtime when I get 5 minutes, I don't want to perch on a bag of bricks

marymanc · 08/08/2017 19:00

What do you think is the most important thing to remember when buying a sofa?

The right measures. It is important to know exactly how big the sofa' has to be to look good in your home.

Sid98 · 08/08/2017 19:05

Non-attendees,

Price and quality

Malina11 · 08/08/2017 19:06

Non-attendee: I would make sure it's the right size for my room and family. It is also important for me to have the sleeping function.

kassza · 08/08/2017 19:06

Room for the whole family and easy to keep clean

It did in a positive way and I was very impressed with the team member who assisted me in finding a sofa for my home

I would like to see how I get on with my own DFS sofa first but I would tell them to go and have a browse

Thanks so much for choosing me. It was great.

alabaster002 · 08/08/2017 19:18

Non-attendee. Only three important things - comfort, comfort and comfort!

Rachdayan · 08/08/2017 19:18

Non-attendee. For me the most important thing is will the cats want to scratch it!

kittykomp · 08/08/2017 19:23

The quality of the material is very important, if poor quality it will wear and pill.
