Don't use black eyeliner - it's too harsh, I went to a dark brown and it looks so much better.

HobNobAddict · 15/03/2025 13:23

I watch youtube videos on how to paint eyes with flicks - tarting from the edge of the lower lash line by imagining it extending up towards your brow, just direct your wings to the point where your eyebrow ends. Iove this look for nights out.

Elspet · 16/03/2025 18:44

Something I learnt on here: anti chafing gel (usually to help soothe thighs etc) makes a brilliant cheap alternative for face primer.

ohhh I’d love to try the Delilah radiant eye perfector!

TeaIsNice · 16/03/2025 18:47

water water water

Best tip I learned (far too late in life) was to choose a concealer in a shade lighter than your foundation to brighten the under eye area and add a bit of contour in other areas.

I'd probably purchase one of the gift kits to try a few of their products.

I understood it was better to use slightly darker concealer to stop you looking like a cadaver. Erica Taylor is a good make-up artist to follow.

Don’t draw your lipliner to the corners of your lips. Stop before you get to the edge otherwise you drag your lips downwards.

As I have blonde hair and fair eyebrows and lashes, my eyes disappear without make up. A beautician in John Lewis taught me how to use eye pencil on my upper waterline. Absolute game changer for me. Wouldn't think of using eyeliner now without doing that first.

Not too worry about wrinkles. We all get them and I've saved £££

DenDenDenise · 17/03/2025 12:07

A good concealer before foundation for my dark under eyes.

benjaminjamesandgraham · 17/03/2025 12:19

Heat your eyelash curler with a hair dryer for 20 seconds for a longer lasting curl - allow to cool before applying mascara

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 17/03/2025 12:32

Use your fingers to apply foundation! Brushes and sponges are completely unnecessary, unhygienic and you waste so much foundation using them.

If I won I’d like to try the blusher. 😁

As a side note, I used to feel this. But I've been watching videos where you put a perfectly normal amount of foundation on your hand, smoosh it into your brush then onto your face and am dazzled by how well it works! This morning, I only wanted a tiny bit around me eyes/nose and mouth where it can be a bit red and if I'd tried to spread the little dot with my fingers, it wouldn't have been enough.

It kind of blows my mind! Grin

stringsoup · 17/03/2025 14:24

Don't worry too much if your foundation is a bit light you can alter the shade with a bronzer. I've just bought the delilah radiant skin tint and the eye perfector and am now lusting after the face mist and/or a lipstick

RoxieLoxy · 17/03/2025 20:27

My best tip is curling your lashes again after you've already first curled them and put mascara on (but only once it's dry). Makes them even more curly but you have to be careful not to pull the curler off too quickly.

If I won I'd love to try the Rose Quartz eye shadow stick.

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/03/2025 21:37

My best tip is to always clean off make up before bed and also to have a good skincare routine including drinking plenty of water.

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/03/2025 22:19

Drink Lots of water and let your skin breathe as much as possible free from foundation.

From my mum who still has lovely skin at 84! I would add never go without sunscreen.

A friend of mine used to work in the makeup department at Selfridges and she told me that your perfect, subtle glam lipstick shade is the same colour as your nipples 👀👀
She was right 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

ButterOllocks · 18/03/2025 10:19

To add some vitamin tanning drops to your moisturiser to get a healthy glow and moisturised skin.

Boots need some private lipstick sampling booths!

I used to use eyeliner on the inner of my eyes - the tip to line the outside of my eyes makes my eyes look bigger and younger - that was my tip

prawncocktailcrispss · 19/03/2025 11:43

Invest in one good expensive product, lipstick, mascara, and eyeliner - then multiple cheaper brands which need reappling.

Use red lipgloss as a blusher. It gives that 'french girl' natural look. And red blusher is actually way more natural looking than pink.

Oh wow, thank you sooo much @MaddyMumsnet ! I’ve been having a rotten time with a broken ankle, so this has really made my day.

Thank you Delilah 🥰

Cismyfatarse · 19/03/2025 19:06

I really love the eyeliner.

Have already posted about moisturiser being my secret. However, my husband has pointed out the secret to my good skin is living in the far North and, until recently, not having the money for sunshine holidays. West of Scotland rain is good for the complexion.
