This activity is now closed

A sturdy backpack that can take pretty much anything you throw in it and also looks stylish, is often a must-have for both parents and children alike. HYPE would love you or your DC to take a look at their website not only choose your favourite backpack but also share what your backpack essentials are.

Here’s what HYPE have to say: “You’ll make heads turn and jealousy begin with a HYPE bag in hand. Our backpacks are perfect for those days when you’ve got the world to carry on your back, literally, for every moment. Whether you're packing your go-to flight essentials or your DC is heading to their mates for a sleepover, our backpacks are here for every occasion! Our most-sought-after Black with white speckle is for those who like things a little subtler. Sizing at 41 x 31cm our backpacks are the perfect size to keep all of your essentials in one safe place. Want something a bit louder? Choose from our current best-seller, the all over mature floral print or the classic holographic.”

Take a look at the HYPE website here and select yours or your DCs favourite backpack and post it on the thread (ideally with a link for everyone interested in your favourite).

We would also love to know what yours or your DCs backpack essentials are. Do you have to have a backpack with as many pockets as possible to fit all your little bit and bobs in? Perhaps your DC is all about how the bag looks and which backpack will make them stand out the most? Or maybe you have to have a backpack that is spacious enough to fit every single thing you own in it?

Tell us yours or your DC’s backpack essentials, as well as your favourite HYPE backpack from their website and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list). Plus HYPE will also be giving 4 MNers their favourite backpack that they selected from the site!

Thanks and good luck!

I like HYPE PURPLE WITH WHITE SPECKLE BACKPACK. I like bags with useful pockets, such as a side one for the essential bottle of water, somewhere secure for valuables so that they don't fall to the bottom. A side pocket for wipes would be lovely. I always take out so would class as essential keys, phone, purse, nappies, wipes, nappy cream and change of clothes for both dc.

FoofFighter · 18/03/2018 20:04

My backpack essentials are lots of pockets, machine washable, waterproof, and wide padded straps. Those airflow back things that stop you getting sweaty are good too (unsure what they are called!)

I really like the Road bags (Navy splatter!) but backpack wise - www.justhype.co.uk/hype-white-backpack-with-black-speckle-pocket?___store=store_hype_uk&nosto=nosto-page-product1 white with black speckles on the pocket

ApocalypseNowt · 18/03/2018 20:17

DD1 likes this one pink holographic

DD2 likes this one silver holographic

They're basically magpies and love anything shiny! Lovely backpacks on the website. Personally I liked the black embossed script one. The prices are more than I'd normally spend on my DC but I could be persuaded by quality. The bags I buy now last a year tops. If I could be sure they'd go for longer than that I might be tempted!

Essentials are plenty of pockets (with decent quality zips that don't break after a couple of months).

Decent shoulder straps - they need to be comfy!

jac22 · 18/03/2018 20:42

This is my favourite one
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-badge-backpack-6119b0
My current bag is a hype one, which I love and dd couldn't believe that I choose something that she approved of!
Pockets are key - mobiles have to be safe so they can't get squashed by school books, teenage girlie bits have to be hidden in pockets and forgotten. Ideally a water bottle holder on the side, so books don't get wet. Has to be able to put a A4 book in it. The colour has to be correct, the name has to be right etc.
For my ds, it has be to tough and dark coloured to be able to stand the impact it gets. Preferably, with a padded pocket to protect the mobile!

RomaineCalm · 18/03/2018 21:05

It's not a brand that I have come across before but quite like the 'sand cameo pocket' backpack.

We are a bit limited for school as bags have to be black but the essentials are several pockets, ideally a pocket for a water bottle and big enough for A4 books/folders.

Ilikesweetpeas · 18/03/2018 22:00

Some great backpacks on this site. I use a backpack a lot and to me comfortable straps and internal pockets are important. I would have liked to see pictures of the inside of these backpacks. There were lots I liked but thought https://www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-blue-bandana-backpack was really quirky and unusual Smile

Rudi44 · 18/03/2018 22:48

Definitely the silver holographic. For my DD as well as all the usual school items such as pencil case, water bottle, calculator etc she has a carabiner attached with tons of spare hair bands (she has very long hair and is always loosing them), her phone plus a power bank for emergency (she often stays late at school for activities and needs to be able to get hold of us to pick her up) plus a spare purse hidden in the depths containing enough money for bus fair home if she needs it in an emergency.

Bufferingkisses · 18/03/2018 23:57

My ds likes this one as he's at the gym a lot www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-mesh-backpack-sports

His essentials are separate compartment for keeping water bottle away from clotges/books and a chain/cord for keys/gym pass.

One small criticism though, the info and pictures are limited. We talked about ordering one as he liked it but there is no info on what's inside, pockets, extras etc. We decided we'd want to see before we buy because of this.

BeeMyBaby · 19/03/2018 06:07

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-grey-primary-splat-backpack

This is a nice one. Essentials are a lot of pockets so they can easily find where all their stuff is in their bags

FlaviaAlbia · 19/03/2018 08:04

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-sand-camo-pocket-backpack

I like the the sand camo one best.

I carry everything in a backpack. It usually has my purse, my phone, pen, bullet journal, tissues, lip balm, hand cream, ice scraper, penknife, nappy change stuff, anything I've bought when I've been out and dozens of receipts...

Aftereights91 · 19/03/2018 08:42

My favourite is definitely the black with white speckles. Backpack essentials are definitely wide enough shoulder straps so that it's comfy, and big enough to fit everything in

N2986 · 19/03/2018 10:13

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f

Absolutely this one for my DD! She needs loads of space, pockets and something to make her friends jealous Confused. And plenty of space for her dance kit too.

Only problem is, if DD gets one I'll have to buy another one for her younger brother too Hmm

HowsAnnie25 · 19/03/2018 10:37

This is my favourite www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-speckle-backpack
None of my 3 children are that bothered what their backpack looks like so they wouldn't necessarily choose to stand out from the crowd (ages 7, 8 and 16)
My 16 year old doesn't take much to school, as most his stuff he leaves at school but he does take packed lunch so needs room for that.
The 7 and 8 year old need a holder for their water bottles. The 8 year old takes a packed lunch so hers need to be big enough for that. They also take (at the moment) hats and gloves. They both have A4 sized homework folders too. They also take a piece of fruit that they put in the front pocket of their bags.

PickAChew · 19/03/2018 10:58

I love the space screen print backpack
www.justhype.co.uk/hype-multi-screenprint-space-backpack

Though my ideal backpack comes with a mesh pocket for water bottles (also coming in handy for wet brollies but the typical hype market probably doesn't use one!)

4GreenApples · 19/03/2018 12:08

There’s lots of lovely looking backpacks on the website. DS2’s favourite backpack is this one:

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-deep-space-backpack

Backpack essentials - as far as DS2 is concerned, it’s all about how it looks and whether he has plenty of room for the favourite toy of the moment. He’s keen on extra side and front pockets for popping toys into.

When I’m looking at buying backpacks for DS2, the most important thing are how sturdy and hard wearing it is, as DS2 can be rough on his things, particularly around the zips. The last few backpacks he’s had (different brands) have had broken zips quite quickly, or loose stitching round the zips that’s made holes in the bag. Easy to clean material is also a bonus.

UpOnDown · 19/03/2018 13:56

This is my favourite: www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-acid-space-backpack

It needs to be able to carry a laptop, books, and lunch!

pinkflump · 19/03/2018 14:35

My eldest daughter chose this one: www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-black-with-white-and-reflective-speckle-backpack She loved that it looked like stars!

I like my backpacks to have lots of storage space but also be lightweight and not dig in my shoulders! Padding is essential, its bad enough having bra straps that dig in! Essentials are a bottle of water or two, some snacks and babywipes (never go anywhere without babywipes!).

FreddieRocks · 19/03/2018 15:10

I reckon, after much analysis, that this is my favourite: www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-primary-backpack-b120b7 and would be perfect as a change bag when my third baby arrives in a few weeks. Essentials for me are comfy, adjustable straps and lots of pockets for all the gubbins you end up hawking around with small children!

ALickyBoomBoomDown · 19/03/2018 15:41

https://www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-luna-backpack

This is my favourite one because it has cats and dogs on it! I would use it as a changing bag, so that both my hands are free and I would buy a handbag organiser to go in it to keep all my baby's bits and bobs organised. Because of the print, Dad can carry it too without feeling like a wally! Grin

SargeantAngua · 19/03/2018 15:51

I love this one www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-burgundy-core-backpack-box
Looks like just the right shape for my mobility scooter basket and lovely colour.

Day to day my bag contains the standard purse, tissues, hand wipes, painkillers, phone charger, Swiss army card, sometimes notebook and pencil, sometimes my latest knitting project. I then add an extra bag with stuff for my art or knitting groups as required - currently I haven't quite the right size bag for everything together so a decent backpack would be really useful.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 19/03/2018 16:34

My ds LOVES Hype. He currently uses the Camo Insignia bag and wears a Hype jacket to school which he finds super cosy. When he chose his bag, he was torn between camo and fade designs. I see that you do a Khaki Camo Fade design which is totally up his street. I personally prefer the Speckle designs. For the purpose of the competition, he's like to name this as his favourite
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/backpacks/hype-silver-camo-backpack

Important features of backpacks (according to my son)

  • they fit a4 books/files
  • not boring
  • lots of pockets, hooks for keys etc. An outside pouch for water bottles is a plus. A clever way of carrying an umbrella but not getting the contents of the bag wet would be good too
  • comfy to carry
  • machine washable - lots of mud in the UK
CopperPan · 19/03/2018 18:36

I love this Urban Spray backpack,
the colours are really bright and it's the perfect size for daily use.
www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-multi-urban-spray-backpack
I like a backpack with decent padded straps for comfort, a few compartments, and strong zips that don't fall apart. It also needs to be waterproof and fully closing to keep out the rain!

Candyperfumegirl · 19/03/2018 19:24

The pink holographic bag is my DCs fave bag.

She would use it for school so it would have her lunchbag, waterbottle and no doubt a huge amount of Smiggle stuff.

daisyduke66 · 19/03/2018 20:21

www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-pink-holographic-backpack-28dc1f
Would be most popular choice with me and mine :) essentials - purse, keys, pens and pencils, books, hair brush, wet wipes and lippy! :)

flowerslemonade · 19/03/2018 22:03

So many backpacks to choose from, but my favourite is the Silver Holographic Rucksack.

  <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Glitterball" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/glitterball-DHk_yWcc.png"><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><strong> <a class="break-all" href="//www.justhype.co.uk/bags/hype-silver-holographic-backpack-1e403b" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Silver Holographic Rucksack</a> </strong><strong>*</strong><strong>*</strong><img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Glitterball" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/glitterball-DHk_yWcc.png">

It stood out for me. Perfect for the spring and summer rapidly approaching and nice to have something bright after the snow has finally left us! I'd love to take it to festivals, out in the day or to the gym, and it's also smart enough to take out in the evening.

My rucksack essentials are: it's got to have style and be on trend, functional yet funky at the same time. The colour is amazing and adds sparkle and fun to any outfit.

In it would go: water to stay hydrated on hot summer days, some fruit as a snack, gym gear, a small sports towel, Hype Gone Travelling to freshen up post workout and a change of clothes ready to grab a meal with friends and make the most of the long summer evenings to come!
