I won't be posting about dd on here or the teen board(will still keep an eye out for any where I can advise though) this whole Daily Mail thing has made me feel very unsafe. some of the issues I would be talking about soon will make me very Identifiable, so I will stick to TTR and SKINUK where it is safer.

Fio, you and mrsturnip are SN board linchpins. How would you not be welcome????
I always think mrsturnip is one of the most level-headed people on here and she's only giving her view; people can disagree with each other on here without it becoming too polarised and acrioious, surely, out of all the places on MN?

Mrsturnip, I do think though that SN (esp. posts about children like peachy's ds1 and my J) is perfect DM fodder though for those articles where they get hysterical about the 'violent labels generation'/ bemoan the over-labelling of a generation, all caused by additives/ crap parenting/ crap teachers and, knowing them, they'll find a way to blame single parents for the rise in SN . And this has made me think a bit more carefully about what I post and how it could be used if someone chose. I think our stories are niche in terms of interest individually, but you could put a few posters' more extreme experiences together and make it into a shock horror article. (Not you, obviously! A person could. You know what I mean.)

How are you anyway, Mrs T? I have followed your example and got J surfing. He loves it and I was so proud when he caught his first wave!

Surfing is fab isn't it? Hoping to go again soon.

These school holidays are horrendous but enough said about that.

Wrt false labels/ naughty children the paper to watch out for is the times. The mail is nine times out of ten surprisingly sympathetic. They are about the only paper apart from private eye who often take an anti government stance on the mmr as well.

I think fio is referring to the comments about moldies rather than disagreeing - I'm not sure she is disagreeing anyway - that's just me.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 17/08/2009 10:43

Well I do have a history of not liking seeing individuals repeatedly slagged off. Remember that's why I left TTR.

Therevchasesducks · 17/08/2009 11:24

a bit more to it than that.

sc13 · 19/08/2009 11:04

I thought I was hallucinating, but this morning I google-stumbled into this:
www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/mumsnetrsquos-messageboards-a-snapshot -of-modern-family-life-1712088.html on the Independent. WTF?

cyberseraphim · 19/08/2009 11:47

I asked someone who knows about internet law and his view was this is becoming a general, although legally uncertain, practice - eg If someone dies in an accident then journalists will do a global copy and paste of all of the victim's Facebook comments in their article.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 19/08/2009 13:40

have journo's stopped writing their own articles now?

sc13 · 19/08/2009 13:48

It rather looks that way, doesn't it. They might as well just give a link to the webpage. Or you think it's a joke, like April's fool but in August? This thing in the Independent is even worse than the other one

Goblinchild · 19/08/2009 13:51

'have journo's stopped writing their own articles now?'

Like Reality TV taking the place of real actors?

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 19/08/2009 14:08

used to be a thread like that would have been summarised by the journo and written like a proper article. Not just cut and pasted.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 19/08/2009 16:18

Well mnhq must know about that one- they're pretty intertwined with the indie.

slightlycrumpled · 19/08/2009 16:48

I have always worried/ thought about being identifiable through my postings and I do hold back how much information I give on all areas of the board.

The thread that MrsT mentioned a little while ago I was on and I had given way too much info (in my rage ) about my youngest son, that I simply did not want floating around cyberspace. To be fair MNHQ deleted all of my posts not long after I asked. I asked due to misrepresentation elsewhere on the board primarily but it really brought it home to me not to leave myself open like that.

I can understand that it is distressing however, and I guess that it will be helpful for the private boards MN are proposing arrived sooner rather than later.

I would hate to be identified in RL through somebody reading and putting two and two together, it's almost like they would have read my diary!

Therevchasesducks · 19/08/2009 17:08

I think private room will be awful. imagine if you arn't invited

saintlydamemrsturnip · 19/08/2009 17:09

DM has said SN won't be quoted.

Doesn't mean other publications won't dip in but I do think in general the threads just aren't relevant enough.

I just never want to end up in those articles about termination for example where someone says 'my friend has a severely disabled child and althoughhe's very sweet i I saw how awful her life was so decided it wasn't for me'. Someone would be off the Xmas list. I always cringe when I see those quotes.

Therevchasesducks · 19/08/2009 17:26

when the DM say that?

saintlydamemrsturnip · 19/08/2009 18:20

It's on the big thread this afternoon. Post from Carrie.

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 19/08/2009 18:23

SWMNBN is about the Gina Ford thing - she who must not be named, like a Voldemort reference.

(Does crossing out her name mean it doesn't count? )
