I have a quick question if anyone can help. This is my first renewal. I have left it to the last minute, now I’m panicking they will stop our payments and it won’t be done in time.

they have sent us a renewal form and change of circumstances form for mobility, do I need to send both off? COC for mobility has to be back before the renewal date.
any advice would be appreciated, thanks

I don’t really know the answer to this but I’m waiting on a renewal for my son and COC for my daughter, knowing what both forms are like I don’t see why you would need to do the COC form aswell as the renewal form? Renewal would be done quicker than the COC and covers both care and mobility on there, I’ve printed out my answers and attached it to each page because the boxes to write in are so small. It may be worth giving them a call to double check

Lou22345891 · 03/05/2025 16:34

@Curlycookie5are they ok with typing it out and attaching it to the form - it’s so time consuming to fill it out by hand.

I sent the change in circumstances form back as my child’s needs have become greater and we are applying for the mobility. I’m so confused by it all of the renewal is quicker I might just send this off too

Curlycookie5 · 03/05/2025 17:33

I’ve done it with the new claim forms, COC form and renewal just because I’m dyslexic so it was easier for me to do it that way but they haven’t questioned it yet. Apparently if you’ve done a COC form and your renewal form comes through you should do it because a renewal will be done before it runs out but COC are taking 25 week plus at the moment. What date does claim end?

Lou22345891 · 03/05/2025 17:35

@Curlycookie5i will do it for the renewal, I’m gonna send both - it ends the 26/5/25

NC scan date 31/1, I called once to check they've got our paperwork and they called and asked about my DS address and said it would be 25 weeks.

In a shocking u turn our LA have decided to actually do an EHCPNA, after previously saying they were making us go to tribunal. Is it worth sending the letter saying they are now going to do the assessment to the DLA?

Whilst waiting we had the ehcp agreed and so I sent them that letter and ep report as additional evidence. If we haven't had an answer by the time I receive the draft plan on weds then I will send that too. Our scan date is the 14/01 so I'm hoping they do ours soon as I've seen a few around the same time being awarded

Ooh this is such a good point I will definitely send that when I get it. Not sure on wait times as I was so suprised they have changed their mind! They want a report from his school, Ed psych, CAMHS and the alternative provision he currently attends. So I suppose that will all be evidence if the DLA say no?

That’s not long at all, definitely send it Tuesday with signed for delivery and then call them to make sure they have received it in a weeks time. I’ve seen others send it 5 weeks before and get the decision just before it’s due to run out so hopefully yours will be ok

Hi guys

I sent of my daughters renewal forms on 1st April special delivery. It was received 2nd April. I haven't heard back yet as to the scan date. Il call them tomorrow. But was wondering i waited until she was 3 before I applied and same for my son who was awarded high rate in November. However I have 2 yr old twins they will be 3 on November. Can you apply for DLA before they are 3 yrs old? They are ASD and ADHD. One has more needs than the other.

When I applied for my daughter 4 weeks before she turned 3 they would only approve her dla from when she was 3 yrs old. So assumed they just don't give it to you before they are 3.

Good luck to everyone with your claims.

It’s only high rate mobility that is from 3 years old, and low rate mobility from 5 years old, you can apply for care before they are 3 I think it’s just harder to prove their needs aren’t similar to other children there own age when they are under 3. What date does your renewal run out?

Is it not the other way around? Low rate mobility from 3 and higher rate from 5?

There are also age limits to receiving the mobility component:

  • lowest rate - the child must be 5 years or over
  • highest rate - the child must be 3 years or over
This is on the gov website

Ohh this is good to know! I was convinced it was the other way round! My son has mobility issues but he’s only 3! Thanks for correcting me 😊

Yeah I only get high rate care for the 3 yr old. I had a lot of evidence for him when I applied. He is also a twin and she doesnt have any additional needs so you could see how he hadn't progressed like his twin sister.

I have lots of evidence for the 2nd set of twins also. I will just wait until just before they are 3. It so exhausting.

Thank you for your reply.
