DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 61

1000 replies

macap · 30/12/2024 17:21

Hey! Thought I'd make a new thread as previous one very close to being full!

These threads have been a big help whilst waiting for the outcome of our application. Sure they help everyone else too! It's stressful!

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.

New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?

Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.

Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.

If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)

Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.

If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

DLA contact number is 0800 121 4600

16 weeks tomorrow so getting closer to the end and I just re read the entire application plus extra I wrote and sent off with it and honestly feel like I’ve missed so much out, not gone into enough detail and sounds rushed. Even though at the time of writing, it didn’t feel rushed. I feel like I’ve overlooked an awful lot and not gone into detail at all. And I can’t help but read it thinking if I was a decision maker, I’d decline this 🙄 doubting it all now 🙄😂

I am thinking the exact same about my application! I didn’t even keep a copy of mine 😭 I just keep think of all the things I could have put in there and might not have! Properly paranoid about it all!

Quick question…

My 9 year old has been awarded LR mobility but no care…

Im just writing my reconsideration letter. In reference to ‘compared to another child the same age with no disability’ what do they use to define this? Is it just the decision makers opinion of what a 9 year olds care needs would be?

Im struggling to see how my evidence and descriptions sent in describes a 9 year old with no additional care needs.

Thank you 😊

I didn’t keep copy of
mine and I don’t remember what I wrote. I am stressing now if I put all the important information. What happens at night etc. Whole process is stressful and sometimes they forgetting that for them “it’s just a form” but we living it every single day and night. The amount of stress and anxiety 😟

Thank you. I got neither. I called to request a letter was sent out to me, and when I got through to the service centre, the lady told me a decision has been made. HRC LRM.

I feel exactly the same! Pretty sure we're gonna be a decline tbh. Not sure if I'll bother doing an MR for it either as DD is 15 now so would only get it for a year anyway!

Should have tried years ago but just didn't occur to me, stupidly!

Ohhh I know what you mean. My daughter is 15 now. I am homeschooling her second year now because of her problems. Didn’t even thought about DLA - I was trying to deal with health side of things. 😞

I would! I called twice that day. In the morning, not even with a DM by 4pm a decision had been made. I still haven’t received a text or letter. I also applied for UC and all the details have been verified.

Yes I think it is just their opinion. For example with my 8 year old daughter they wouldn’t or shouldn’t expect a regular 8 year old to have bowel accidents? Mine does and therefore they could safely assume she has care needs above the average 8 year old. It’s a grey area really as one DM may expect a child to do more or less than they actually can so the onus is on us to tell them which you have done and I’m baffled by. It’s most unusual to have mobility but no care, it’s usually the other way round. I currently have 2 13 year olds (non twins) and drew comparisons between the 2. One smashes and exceeds expectations where the other doesn’t. Good luck

You can always do another statement of points you feel you’ve missed out or they may ring you to ask a few more questions if they need clarification. I was filled with self doubt too and I think the horrible wait times don’t help.

Justawaitingmum · 02/01/2025 09:21

Joining the waiting parents hoping for the best outcome for our little ones.
My child is 5y Autistic with a formal diagnosis.
sent support evidence from blue badge award letter, Senco support letter, community paediatric, EHCP,speech and language, music therapist, sleeping referral, sleep clinic appointment, personal statement, relatives letter. Sleep diary. All of these mentioning his lack of danger awareness and sleeping patterns.
He attends to a mainstream and has a one to one all day.

WOW! How did you manage all of
this?! We are still waiting for official diagnosis- 2 years- and they still don’t know when we get it. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Hi Roma,
I suspect my child had Autism when he was 12 months old as he could wave bye.
once he started nursery at age 2 I got his referral going for speech and language. From the first contact with the community paediatrician to formal diagnosis it was 2 years and half.
for other evidences such as blue badge I had a letter from his paed saying that he has no Danger award and requires close supervision constantly. Senco also wrote a good and detailed letter supporting our claim.
after having the diagnosis I opted to refer him to further therapies as the waiting period is less long.
He has been offered 9 sessions of music therapy, His lack of danger awareness is evident. I commented with his therapist and asked for support letter plus her final report.
Think is worth to give all the professionals a heads up about your claim and as for support.
as for night time care after 3 months of him not getting a full nights and having negative behaviour as he is very unpredictable my gp agreed to refer him to sleep clinic, his music therapist also helped me with that and also mentioned in the support letter that when she sees him he seems tired and restless.
we have his appointment in 2 weeks.

I actually can’t believe how ridiculous this is, leaving some of the most vulnerable families waiting upto a year. Scandalous
