DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 61

1000 replies

macap · 30/12/2024 17:21

Hey! Thought I'd make a new thread as previous one very close to being full!

These threads have been a big help whilst waiting for the outcome of our application. Sure they help everyone else too! It's stressful!

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.

New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?

Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.

Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.

If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)

Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.

If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

DLA contact number is 0800 121 4600

I actually can’t believe how ridiculous this is, leaving some of the most vulnerable families waiting upto a year. Scandalous

There had to be a better way. I think switching to online applications would be better than paper, the amount which go 'missing' is very suspect. If it had online, you would also have an application progress tracker too and all those people working on the phones could be processing applications!

DuffTrio · 02/01/2025 10:25

When the world is digital I don’t see why they can’t be. We shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get evidence to them. I’ve had 3 lots of DLA forms just not turn up in the last 3 years. But that’s my problem not a DLA problem. The man we are currently on the phone to is trying to get an evidence extension as we received his diagnosis late November

Hi, my MR date is 14/08 and I'm still waiting is actually sent my daughters official ASD diagnosis in December and I'm still waiting 😫 MRs seem to be the longest wait at the moment, its ridiculous they have told me I have until yhe 05/02/2025 by original date is 14/02/2024 so if they drag it out it will be a year since I started this. Good luck with yours I really hope they speed things up

I’ve been really lucky then because I’ve now got 2 evidence extensions, my daughters evidence has to be in by the 13th jan and my sons 18th. My son has his diagnosis now and we are waiting for my daughter final feedback appointment. I know she has autism the drs told me by mouth but I have to wait for the appointment because she wanted to look at PDA and diagnosing that too.

Roma85 · 02/01/2025 11:06

I called and lady told me: 25 weeks wait. I specifically asked about more evidence etc but she told me
they don’t need anything. 🙄

Micd3896 · 02/01/2025 11:07

Fighting the urge not to call.

received my evidence today and I don’t know whether to send it now or leave it incase I need to do a MR? what does everyone think?

I sent an absolute ton of evidence with the claim especially from the school, the school even wrote a letter and said they physically can’t give anymore information than they’ve already given

Nicnacnoo82 · 02/01/2025 11:17

20+1 today, tempted to call especially since they seem to be working around that date......

Justawaitingmum · 02/01/2025 11:18

I called today . It’s 20 to 25 weeks but from next week they will be working to reduce timeframes 😢

MrsB97 · 02/01/2025 11:20

Called today he said that he will send an email to them as a reminder as its been over 20 weeks. But I called Monday and they said it was being looked at so not sure where I stand really he said to just call next week to see if there's any update.

So my 2nd DLA claim has been declined.. how long is the reconsideration

I am sorry is not the outcome you hoped for.
What annoys me is that DLA is not and should not be based on diagnosis but level of extra care compared with a non neurodivergent individual!!
with that said they form is so exhausting and tricky to miss important details but you are there day and night providing extra support for your child! Yes it’s your child and your responsibility but it’s still their responsibility to provide assistance for us parents.
I have also heard that you can send new evidence even after being declined to support your claim without putting a MR through and apparently you get a decision with 4 weeks.
I hope it helps.

macap · 02/01/2025 11:28

How do they decide what is a normal amount of care for a child? Like is there a guide they follow to know what's deemed typical care? 🤔

my sons got an update to date communications interactions report just before Christmas which I will be keeping back as I’m at 16 weeks so hoping it’ll only be a few more weeks. I did send his previous communications report with the application so thought I’d keep this one back just so I have something new if I have to do an MR as I sent all evidence I had so I wanted to have at least 1 more thing I can send as not sure what I’d do if they ask for more evidence else 😂

I think this is a new thing as the amount of MRs is really high, so they are asking for additional information before it gets to MR hopefully they will take all the info into account so you don't have to do one x

Send it recorded delivery and ring them today and let them know you’re doing it.

That’s what I’m thinking. I genuinely hope we don’t even have to do a MR, but the closer I get the more I feel like it will be a decline

They offered it me after I told her she was throwing too much information at me and I have autism I can’t do anything when you don’t give me time to process it.

I’m going to hold it back, because I’ve already sent so much and this is just an updated letter so I’ll use this for a MR if needs be.

I think things like hitting milestones is a contributing factor. So like when a health visitor does the development stuff and the same with schooling. Then there’s the personal care stuff like for example my 2 year old child is toilet trained and knows how to wash herself and all that where as my 4 year old is still in nappies and doesn’t know how to wash himself. I think if I’m not mistaken there is guidelines that they follow for all this type of stuff based on age and what said child “should” be doing.
